🚨Swiggy IPO gets oversubscribed led by QIB bids Swiggy’s IPO was oversubscribed 1.07 times by the third day, driven largely by QIBs, who oversubscribed their portion 1.52 times. Retail investors subscribed to 97% of their portion, while Non-Institutional Investors (NIIs) made bids for 22% of their allocation. Swiggy's employee quota also saw strong demand, with a subscription rate of 1.38 times. ZEPIC, Inc., a SaaS-based customer experience firm, has secured $2.1 million (INR 17.5 crore) in pre-seed #capital from Neon Fund and other angel investors who hold prominent positions at Apple, Chargebee, Freshworks, Microsoft, and Zoho. Snapdeal Founders Strike Gold: Kunal Bahl and Rohit Bansal Book 200X Return on Urban Company Investment In a story that will inspire aspiring investors everywhere, Kunal Bahl and Rohit Bansal, the co-founders of Snapdeal, have achieved a remarkable feat. Through their early-stage investment firm, Titan Capital, they've secured a staggering 200-fold return on their investment in Urban Company, the popular on-demand services platform. This impressive exit comes after Titan Capital invested a total of Rs 57 lakh (approximately $70,000) in Urban Company's early funding rounds. Their foresight has paid off handsomely, as they've completely exited the company with a return of Rs 111 crore (approximately $13.5 million). This windfall includes a partial exit made in 2021. The news of Titan Capital's impressive return coincides with a recent secondary investment in Urban Company by Dharana Capital, an offshoot of Vy Capital, for $50 million. This transaction also included a $25 million ESOP (Employee Stock Option Plan) buyback announced earlier in May. With additional participation from Amsterdam-based investment giant Prosus, the total secondary investment reached $63 million. This isn't the first time Titan Capital has shown its investment prowess. They have a history of generating significant returns, including at least 100X gains on their bets on Ola and MamaEarth. Notably, in August 2023, they exited debt recovery platform Credgenics with a 100-fold return, mirroring their success with MamaEarth's IPO last November. Bahl and Bansal's investment acumen extends beyond Urban Company. They achieved a similar impressive exit from ride-hailing giant Ola. Their initial investment of $60,000 in 2011 yielded a significant return as Ola reached its peak valuation of $7.3 billion in 2021 before their full exit. Titan Capital's portfolio boasts other successful exits, including companies like Bewakoof, Unicommerce, ANS Commerce, and Netmeds.com. Additionally, reports suggest they are establishing a new "Winners Fund" worth Rs 300 crore (approximately $36 million) to further support existing portfolio companies. This story serves as a testament to the potential rewards of early-stage investing. PharmEasy’s investor and global asset management company Janus Henderson slashes the company’s valuation by marking down its investment value by 91.8%, the filing accessed from SEC shows. This comes as a surprise as PharmEasy in April said it had launched a rights issue to raise about $417 million. Indian venture market has exploded. Someone reported that there are 800+ funds/networks/syndicates/ accelerators active in Indian venture market now. Not sure, if that number is correct but if you are an early stage tech founder on your fundraise journey, chances are, you would meet hundreds of people. While majority of the fund houses are doing incredible work and shaping the ecosystem. There are certain kinds of investors you need to identify & avoid to save time and stay focused: Sharing from my personal experience, top 5 such cohorts to avoid and the takeaways for the founders: 1. Data collectors: At early stage, you don't have historical data to present. Your projections are just that, Projections. I wasted one whole week discussing with a prospective angel investor on why the CLTV to CAC ratio is x, and not y. Takeaway: Discuss high level strategic numbers only without going into the details. None of the projections would be accurate anyway when rubber hits the road. 2. Document collectors: Met few folks, who would watch from the fences and ask for n number of documents, data rooms, statements without sharing the purpose of the ask or even revealing their investment intent. Takeaway: It is supposed to be a bi-directional conversation. Say 'no' often, till the time, an official relationship is established. 3. Valuer (! investor): At early stage, valuation is a function of multiple parameters, the opportunity itself, the team, or anything else except steady cash flows, because you don't have much. I wasted another week with a prospective investor trying to justify valuation, had to shut down that conversation, after both of us started quoting Aswath Damodaran and his valuation principles. Takeaway: Too much content on the internet for both parties anyway. Shouldn't be a bone of contention at early stages. 4. Facilitators posing as investors: Met numerous people, who would go to any lengths to pose themselves as serious investors, even buying paid media articles. Only to reveal at the last: The success fee. Takeaway: Avoid facilitators until Series A 5. Brokers posing as market makers: People posing as market makers sharing tons of gyaan on LinkedIn but are actually deal brokers looking to make quick %. Personal experience: Two rounds of conversation happened and then out of blue, they added a third party in the mail trail, someone who facilitates mergers & acquisitions. There wasn't even a single instance in the past conversations where we indicated any such intent. Takeaway: Avoid name & shame in public but at least share within founder communities. #venture #fundraise #startups #investing

Bengaluru-based healthtech startup Healthify (formerly healthifyme) laid off around 150 employees, or about 27% of its workforce, in a restructuring exercise earlier this week, sources told Inc42. “In the next three-four months, our India business will turn EBITDA profitable and this restructuring was an unfortunate but an important step in line with achieving this. We also have to make sure we have enough resource allocation for the global expansion,” Vashisht said.
