Looking at 3-4 more acquisitions in the chip design space: L&T Semiconductor Technologies. L&T Semiconductor Technologies, a subsidiary of engineering and construction major L&T, is looking at acquiring 3-4 more companies to boost its $300 million (Rs 2,500 crore) chip design foray. The company recently acquired SiliConch Systems, a chip product company in power management, for Rs 183 crore. L&T Semiconductor Technologies CEO Sandeep Kumar, spoke with FE, about acquisition plans, market potential from chip design, customers in pipeline, as well as potential foray into fabrication. Q. What potential do you see for L&T Semiconductor Technologies in chip design? A. Our focus is on the three sectors – automotive, industrial and energy. These three sectors are going through transformation, which is tied to they becoming software-defined systems from a completely hardware-driven systems. Segments like software-defined vehicles, smart grids, and Industry 4.0, have emerged, but semiconductor chips are still catering to the previous market (hardware-driven). New players have come up offering solutions which are needed in this changed market, so this is the right time for us to enter this segment. Q. You recently talked about getting into fabs. Can you explain the product roadmap? A. First we need to build a product. That’s what we are doing. In order to build a product, you use different IPs (intellectual properties) that come from different sources so that’s where the IBM IP comes into play. Now, we can build a processor product for a certain market much faster. If we had to create that same IP, it would have taken five years. And then, product sales comes and if we get large volumes that justify building a chip fabrication, we will build a factory. For us, these are sequential events and won’t happen parallelly. When we achieve a certain milestone or certain revenue (from designed chips), we go to the next step. Q. At what point do you think it makes sense for you to get into building a fab? A. We have to hit $1 billion in product revenue. We expect to reach that level in about seven years. The average selling price of these products is $1. So, if I need to hit $1 billion, I need to sell a billion devices. Q. In the chip design segment, many companies are facing difficulty in finding customers. How are you approaching it? A. Those companies will always lag. We are doing the other way around. Everything we are doing is after ensuring that we have a customer, then we build a product. Q. How many companies have shown interest? A. They are all big customers. We are not going after small players. Majority of electronics graduates find it tough to get jobs in core product development. Few who do six months course also realise that majority of jobs non-core like testing and documentation. While electricians are always in short supply and charge as per their wish and do not bargain. Even their parents feel that their son/daughter cant even change a bulb or switch or repair electric press at home. As a embedded product designer with 45 years of experience with 20 years in job and 25 years as freelancer, I believe that 1. Employers do not worry about degree, they care for results. 2. Programming is over-rated. In the end this is simple language like English. 3. What matters is converting ideas into logic and then logic into 'C' code 4. If you focus on embedded software only, who will do embedded hardware? So engineers who do both hardware and software are preferred. 5. Like every field in real world, you learn more from seniors than from books/you tube (Check with your parents -how did they learn cooking/driving/any life skills?). 6. While every engineers dream job is large MNC. they loose track of probability - Total number of jobs / Total number of applicants. If probability is 0.1% and you are at top 5% , it is tough. 7. There is huge demand of simple, low volume, customised, specific to India products. That market remain untapped. Share your views. Do not troll if your views are different. I am delighted that one of our previous works will be presented at VLSI'24. "A -96.5 dBm-Sensitivity, 14 dBm peak power, Self-Interference Resistant IR-UWB Radar Transceiver Supporting Child Presence Detection and Precision Positioning". Please refer to the abstract below. "This paper presents a radar-enabled IR-UWB system by adopting a self-interference resistant RF transceiver. It shows that child presence detection using IR-UWB radar is possible by implementing a radar system including PHY, MAC, and APP processor. RF transceiver shows high receiver sensitivity and transmitter peak power with low power. Furthermore, a radar dedicated transmitter is used to improve the transmitter signal isolation to the receiver. Proposed notch pulse shaping filter is adopted to satisfy the spectrum emission mask specification. Additionally, a low noise amplifier with wide gain ranges is proposed to improve the sensitivity and support various applications such as radar and positioning detection application. The UWB transceiver achieves -96.5 dBm sensitivity at BPRF 6.81 Mb/s and 14 dBm transmitter peak power and supports the UWB channel 5 and 9."

Hello. I have purchased AMC from IFB for washing machine on 3rd Oct 2024 from company's person. Washing machine wasn't working properly after purchasing AMC. The person came to check and told me that drum is damaged. It needs to be replaced. I registered complaint on 28th Oct 2024. The person told me that I will receive drum in next 2 days and will replace before Diwali. I called him before 2 days of Diwali and he told me that Drum was not received from Company. So It will be done after Diwali. Then after he is not picking up the call. Yet, my complaint is open, but seems they are not interested to solve my problem. I have been calling in customer care for last 5 days and they don't have any answer. I think they are not interested to work on my complaint. It's worthless to call in IFB customer care. They even don't know the company policy (What is the duration to solve customer complaint). The worst thing I found in IFB customer care is: when they are unable to answer, they told me that I'm giving you manager's number. You can directly call him. If I have to call manager directly, then remove customer care number from IFB contact page and add Manager's number at there. So customer can save time by not calling you. When I received the call from manager, the experience talking with them was quite terrible. I felt that I was taking with peon of any local company, not with Manager from IFB. Customer care is far better than IFB Manager. One of my street mate also purchased AMC after me and he is facing the same issue. His complaint is also open and no one came to even visit. When customer purchasse IFB products, all ways are very shorter to get the payment from customer. Then after all ways are very long and complex regarding customer service. You should be ashamed! Before this incident, I believed IFB is trustable company in India. But this incident clears my Vision. I never prefer any IFB product in my life and never recommend any IFB products to anyone. My neighbor told me that they had the same problem with IFB Washing machine. Then they purchased Bosch washing machine and they are very happy. Actually, Bosch product are long lasting and works well long time. They are not going to be damaged in shorter time like IFB. I recommend not to purchase AMC from IFB. They intentionally waste your time and money without any valid reason. Service after purchasing AMC is worst. Every one's tone will be changed after purchase. 🚀 Overcoming Challenges and Achieving LabVIEW Certification Amidst Busy Responsibilities 🚀 I’m excited to share my recent journey with Internshala Trainings, where I completed a 6-week #LabVIEW certification course. This experience was both challenging and rewarding, given my packed schedule. Despite having handled LabVIEW for nearly a decade, this course introduced me to new concepts, reinforcing the idea that "known is a drop, unknown is an ocean." The modules were brilliantly designed, featuring demos, codes, videos, and quizzes that thoroughly tested my knowledge and skills. The main #challenge I faced was managing my time. As a family man with significant family commitments, balancing these demands was no small feat. With a deadline to complete nearly 10 modules and the final exam, the pressure was intense. I eventually took the exam on August 18th, 2024, tackling a set of compelling and mind-thrilling questions within a one-hour timeframe. I’m thrilled to share that I cleared the exam with a 60% score. It is good practice to set a salary target provided the particular person sets a learning target as well. Everyone has to first create his value and then market it. Even after 26 years experience in Embedded system industry, I sold my first course in 1500 INR only . Now we have courses up to 30K and special support service of 25K. Working professionals enroll for it because investment in education return back within a year. Although the overall revenue is not as per my market value but I opted this because of my passion for teaching since the beginning of my career. I taught electrical and electronics based subjects in Government polytechnic as guest lecturer for six months immediately after my engineering.
