Dear Leaders MSME are likely to get subsidy to adopt green solutions. The scope of the scheme is likely to be bigger . Govt has started initial discussions and I urge SIAM and ACMA to participate in the same. There are multiple challanges to measure the benefit of Reuse / Recycle at MSME level. Most of large businesses have already adopted The 3 R's for environmental sustainability are: Reduce: Use less of something, such as bringing your own reusable bags instead of plastic shopping bags. Reuse: Repair or repurpose items instead of immediately replacing them. Scientific reports on global warming, biodiversity loss and waste also played a significant role. They highlighted the interconnectedness of ecological and human systems and emphasized the importance of responsible actions today for future generations. This understanding fueled my commitment to advocating for and practicing sustainability daily. Individuals can contribute to a greener planet through small, impactful lifestyle changes. Embracing minimalism by reducing consumption not only cuts the demand for resource-intensive products but also minimizes waste. Supporting sustainable businesses, choosing recycled materials and prioritizing durability over disposability can influence market trends toward eco-friendly practices. In my view critical strategy for accelerating the adoption of electric mobility is Retrofitting existing diesel buses and heavy, commercial vehicles (SCVs) (3w and trucks) with electric powertrains can significantly reduce urban and rural air and noise pollution while leveraging the existing fleet. However, several key points need to be addressed for this to be a viable and scalable solution: Retrofitting Strategy: 1. Support with Government Policy and Guidelines: - The Ministry of Heavy Industries and associated bodies need to establish clear, supportive guidelines for retrofitting existing ICE (Internal Combustion Engine) vehicles. - Extending the operational life of retrofitted vehicles by at least five years (beyond the typical 15-year cap) is essential to make this investment worthwhile for fleet operators. 2. Cost and Financial Viability: - Retrofitting needs to be cost-competitive. Financial incentives, subsidies, or low-interest loans could encourage fleet owners to adopt this solution. - Involving retail finance and insurance players in designing retrofit-friendly policies will be crucial for adoption. 3. Standardization and Certification: - The retrofitting process must adhere to strict safety, performance, and environmental standards. - A robust certification framework is required to ensure retrofitted vehicles meet the same standards as newly manufactured EVs. 4. Infrastructural Support: - Charging infrastructure, especially for buses and SCVs operating in urban and rural areas, needs to be developed alongside retrofitting initiatives. - Depots and parking areas for buses and SCVs should be equipped with EV charging facilities. 5. Public Awareness and Collaboration: - Educating fleet operators and users on the benefits of retrofitting—such as reduced maintenance costs, lower fuel expenses, and environmental impact—is vital. - Collaboration between OEMs, technology providers, and fleet operators will foster innovation and scalability. 6. Just Transition. Participated in “Global Just Transition Dialogue “ in Delhi organised by iForest. The major issue globally is Just and Fair transition from Coal and Fossil fuel based energy generation and consumption to carbon neutral methods. Supporting communities, families and people in new abilities and getting alternative jobs is key focus. India needs > 1 tr $ investment for shifting from Gas and Coal to Greener alternatives. On consumption side Transport and Commercial and domestic Heating / Cooling are major contributors. Here EV adoption is one of the enabler. Major effort is required in improving the efficiency in generation as well as consumption. Eg post Ukraine- Russia conflict, Gas consumption in Germany reduceded by 20 % by efficiency improvements. Major Indian energy producers NTPC, Indian are doing great work to meet the India’s target of 2070 for Carbon Neutrality. Tata group i. e. Tata Motors and Tata Autocomp has done pioneering work in developing Battery Packs, E Drives and other components and systems for EVs. Developing in-house competencies for design and development of Power Electronic components like On and Off Board chargers, DC- DC converters, Skilling people in the EV technology has been the major focus areas to achieve the JUST transition.

Who killed the Yamuna? Are there no technocrats who can work around a solution? Most of the STPs in Delhi are not even functioning averagely. The companies that are running these STPs are underperforming and have secured operational contracts for extended periods. Even if we ignore the unauthorised flow into the Yamuna, just those that get channeled through the STP can make a significant change in how our Yamuna looks. How much do we think we could have preserved or mitigated from reaching worst threshold of #climatechange #environment boundaries if since 2014 Ministry Of Corporate Affairs mandated #csrindia #csrinitiatives forced about 20k per year big or small corporate to implement list of #SDG2030 interconnected activities? Measurability- have a publicly released database of who is doing what so at bigger picture level one can certainly measure overall progress Transparency- Just like There are third independent parties making sure things are done as claimed, a dedicated department/ task force must exist ( who else would serve as contact point?) Small steps make big differences! If left business as usual now, India would end up loosing all its economic growth in dealing with other national costs like adverse #healthoutcomes #risingsealevels, messed up seasons affecting vegetation, widened #socialdisparity and more ( god forbid if situations like pandemic hit again, India won’t be prepared) If you realize you have a role to play contact your state or district municipality to let them know how can you contribute?
