In 2018, Smart Garage by Pikpart embarked on an ambitious journey to establish a multibrand network aimed at bridging the gap in the IC and electric vehicle (EV) service ecosystem in India. As the electric vehicle market gains momentum, many have raised concerns about the long-term sustainability of such networks. The apprehension stems from the belief that as electric vehicles become more prevalent, traditional service infrastructures may no longer be necessary. However, I believe that this transition presents an invaluable opportunity to educate and empower the Indian user community, which is often not fully equipped to tackle or analyze the complexities surrounding vehicle maintenance and service. The creation of a comprehensive service network is not something that can be achieved overnight. Established leaders in the two-wheeler industry, such as #Hero, #Honda, and #Bajaj, have taken decades to cultivate their service frameworks. Surprisingly, over 80% of servicing in India is conducted by local mechanics, highlighting a significant gap in official service provision. This raises critical questions about the model we must adopt for the future of electric vehicle maintenance. To address this issue, #pikpart are developing an #O2O (Online to Offline) network for service while incorporating a franchising model that will allow local entrepreneurs to become part of our multibrand service ecosystem. By creating a franchise network, we can tap into the knowledge and skills of local mechanics and small business owners, providing them with the training and resources they need to deliver high-quality electric vehicle servicing. This approach not only incentivizes local participation but also creates jobs and strengthens the community. Was just going through the data as published by Counterpoint for Q3 2024 for the Indian Smartphone market. It gives both the value and the volume shares of the brands in Q3 2023 and 2024. I did a ratio analysis of the value share for Q3 and Q4 by dividing the value share by the volume share. In case the ratio of value share divided by the volume share has gone down YoY, my derivation is that the ASP of the brand has gone down. If it has gone up, the ASP of the brand has gone up. Here is what the table of ratios looks like for Q3. Brand 2023 2024 #Vivo. 0.84 0.80 #Xiaomi. 0.49 0.52 #Samsung. 1.31 1.44 #Oppo. 0.88 0.81 #Others. 1.17 1.22 The ratio also kinds of gives a brand’s price positioning with a lower figure reflecting their lower positioning and a higher figure a higher positioning. From a price positioning aspect the data looks fine though I feel Samsung should be lower. What the data shows based on my above-mentioned theory is that the only brands where the ASP seems to have gone up in Q3 YoY are Samsung by close to 10% and Xiaomi by 6%. Vivo ASP has gone down by 5% and that of Oppo by 8% approx. I think the data favors Samsung in value share. Based on my feel, both Vivo and Oppo should be gainers. Unless there is something I am missing in my calculations or the share data is flawed, this is a bit difficult to digest. However, if both are correct Vivo and Oppo have something to worry about. As an afterthought, one thing which could have impacted the ASP for Vivo and Oppo could be shortages of their entry premium and mid premium devices. Frankly under normal circumstances, I would expect the ASP of all brands more so Vivo and Oppo to have gone up QoQ. Here is a Question that is bothering me off late! I have seen 6-7 hardware startups announcing products and how great they are, and every piece is Made in India! Then I heard they got a pilot order for 200 Nos, and then they started thinking about manufacturing. The first issue is that they "now worry about the cost of the product" They forget volume manufacturing is a different ball game. The second, getting the price right! The cost of the product is the Cost of materials + Manufacturing cost + Product Assembly cost. Product assembly cost decides the standards that the product should comply with. If you are designing a product that should meet FCC/CE and IP6x the manufacturing cost is going to be high! Then the third, How the product will be tested? Never assume your EMS partner knows that, sorry most of the time they can't design the test process which is optimal and low cost as you know the design right. Remember even today Apple Designs their testers and the EMS partner just uses them. Finally, how the product will be supported in the field, one big issue that I see is how the firmware will be upgraded. This essentially puts a well-designed product on the path of failure. If your product has to succeed you have to factor in your design for manufacturing and testing. 99% of the startups don't do and blame the govt. regulations for that which is wrong. When I evaluate the product, I have a checklist and if I don't get answers for 75% I know the product will never see the light of the success! PS: If you need help DM me

Fascinating insights on e2W market in this report. Penetration in Jan-Jul 2024 has increased to 6.3% from 5.4% in 2023 (same period). Market shares have been changing quite rapidly between the players. Ola Electric is the number 1; but has seen its share drop in the last 4 months. Delhi NCR-based Vecmocon Technologies, an #EV intelligence startup, has successfully secured $10 million (approximately INR 84.4 crore) in a Series A funding round led by Ecosystem Integrity Fund (EIF), with participation from British International Investment (BII) and existing backer Blume Ventures. The new funding will enable the company to expand its offerings to additional EV segments, including electric two-wheelers, three-wheelers, light commercial vehicles (LCVs), and buses. CEO Peeyush Asati outlined the company’s vision, stating, “This latest funding round will enable Vecmocon to further our R&D efforts in high-voltage systems, energy storage solutions (ESS), and zonal electronic control unit-compliant architectures. Morning briefing: I always start my day with a quick team huddle to understand our day’s agenda and share updates on ongoing activities. Brainstorming: Creative discussions help us create magic. This is why I appreciate open dialogue during these sessions and pay attention to all ideas, no matter how small they may seem. My experience taught me that even a small idea can prove useful in unexpected situations. Stakeholders meetings: Since stakeholder meetings make up a large part of my day, I like to plan them properly. Regardless of the outcomes, these discussions are always enriching.
