Chinese EV giant BYD has decided to just stick to importing cars to India — as of now — as its plans to get $1 billion FDI to the market were rejected by the govt last year amidst growing tensions between the two countries. BYD headquarters has also decided against applying for benefits under the Indian govt’s new EV policy as there are “lot of strings which are not clear in that and a lot of things on which we would not be able to fulfil commitments or requirements,” said top company official in India Rajeev Chauhan. Ola Electric Gets SEBI Approval For INR 5,500+ Cr IPO Bhavish Aggarwal-led two-wheeler electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer Ola Electric has received the nod from the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) for its much-awaited initial public offering (IPO) . The company received the approval earlier in the day today and is eyeing a listing on the exchanges within a month, one of the sources said. As per the last update from SEBI on June 7, Ola Electric’s DRHP was under process. Founder and CEO Aggarwal and investors like SoftBank Group Corp. , Temasek , Tiger Global Management , Alpha Wave Global, Tekne Capital Management LLC and Matrix Partners India are among those who will sell shares via the OFS. KEY POINTS :- - The company is eyeing a listing on the exchanges within a month - Ola Electric filed its draft red herring prospectus with the markets regulator in December last year - As per the DRHP, the public issue will comprise a fresh issue of INR 5,500 Cr and an offer for sale (OFS) component of up to 9.51 Cr shares - In the financial year 2022-23 (FY23), Ola Electric’s net loss widened 88% to INR 1,471.6 Cr from INR 783.4 Cr in the previous fiscal year. Sales surged 605% to INR 2,630.9 Cr from INR 373 Cr in FY22. Meanwhile, the startup reported sales of INR 1,242.7 Cr in the first three months of FY24. - Ola Electric continues to lead the Indian two-wheeler EV space with close to 50% market share. - Earlier this month, a report said that the startup is planning to sack nearly 400-500 employees to cut costs and streamline operations. The Ministry of Power released the latest guidelines on EV charging infrastructure in Sep 2024. Ola Electric’s S1 X e-scooter get certifications for PLI scheme. 1.    Ola electric’s two S1X scooter variants have earned domestic value addition certification under the PLI scheme for auto and auto components. 2.    These two products make 50% of their orders. 3.    Under PLI scheme Ola electric is set to receive incentives for five consecutive years starting from FY 24. 4.    Incentives will be ranging from 13-18% of the sales value of certified products. Criteria for getting certifications. 1.    Ola must achieve a minimum of 50% domestic value addition in its vehicles to get certificate. 2.    The company must also need to meet the minimum investment benchmark which are Rs 3bn in FY23, Rs 8bn in FY24, Rs 14bn in FY25, Rs 17.5bn in FY26, Rs 20bn in FY27.   3.    Further certified product must meet an increasing annual sales threshold with FY24 target set between Rs 1.25 bn-Rs1.37 bn. Accelerating India's EV Charging Infrastructure: Ministry of Power Releases Draft Revised Guidelines With an aim to expedite deployment of public EV charging stations, the Ministry of Power has released the draft revised "Guidelines for Installation and Operation of Electric Vehicle Charging Infrastructure-2024", which will supersede all previous guidelines in this regard. The revised guidelines aim to expedite the deployment of public EV charging stations within the stipulated timelines specified in the Electricity (Rights of Consumers) Rules dated 22nd Feb 2024. These guidelines will be applicable to owners/operators of EV charging infrastructure. Key highlights of the revised guidelines include: 1️⃣ Discoms will provide a single window application to streamline and simplify the process for accelerated deployment of public EV charging stations. All requisite clearances will be obtained by the applicant. 2️⃣ Timelines for providing electricity connections have been specified - within 3 days in metropolitan areas, 7 days in other municipal areas, and 15 days in rural areas after submission of a complete application. 3️⃣ Amendments have been made to the Model Building Bye-laws for setting up adequate public charging stations within local urban areas and building premises. 4️⃣ The tariff for supply of electricity to EV charging stations shall not exceed the "Average Cost of Supply" till 31st March 2026. The cost of supply will be 0.7 times of ACoS during solar hours and 1.3 times ACoS during non-solar hours. 5️⃣ Discoms can provide LT connection up to 150 kW for public, community, workplace, and bus depot charging stations in consultation with the Appropriate Commission. The Ministry of Power has requested the stakeholders to submit their comments, if any, on the draft guidelines to the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) on [email protected] and/or [email protected] by 30th July 2024.
