KNOWLEDGE Vs PRACTICAL EXPERIENCE FOR SUPPORT STAFF IN SPORTS As a Former High-Performance Director at Sports Authority of India, I had the opportunity to interview more than 1000 Strength and Conditioning & Sports Physiotherapists in SAI. Theoretically, 90% of them were sound and had good knowledge of Sports Injuries and rehabilitation procedures. But, when I looked into their ability to rehabilitate the athletes, 80% of them lacked the skills and hands-on approach to get the athletes back into sports action and play at the earliest. They were clueless about the sports training, phases of training, periodization, methodology of training in general, specific and competitive periods, and a coordinated effort that was needed among the various sports scientists (Coaches, Strength & Conditioning experts, Nutritionists, physiologists, sports psychologist) who were helping the athletes to return to sport/Play. Lack of coordination among them led to a delayed return to sport, re-injury, or compensated injuries, at the cost of performance. At the time of recruiting, many physios had experience of competition assistance at the venue rather than actual work with the athlete. Sad to say that, practical exposures and internships are lacking in many colleges where theoretical aspects are put forward. Many colleges do not have neither equipment nor a practical atmosphere. This has led to the production of average-category practitioners at the cost of Olympic medals. My appeal to the practitioners is to please take the opportunity to learn from the best, practical workshops, seminars, conferences, etc.

India needs sports infrastructure for the growth of sports is partially incorrect. A more accurate statement would be - India needs efficient operational management of sports infrastructure to turn it revenue-positive for growth of sports. Consider this: nearly 50% ( all stadiums ) of sports infrastructure in the country is under-utilised or in disrepair due to inefficient operational handling. We need good people to manage and grow it. THEN; you can assure all the competitors, that their efforts, in the pursuit of engaging in, a competition within, a motorsport event, is being taken seriously and all parties will be held to the highest standard and ethical professionalism.
