After a prolonged period of workforce reductions due to global economic challenges, optimism is returning as headcount declines stabilize. Key points include: Headcount Trends: The top five IT services firms in India saw their aggregate headcount decrease for the seventh consecutive quarter. However, companies like Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), Wipro, and Tech Mahindra reported net additions in their workforce. Current Statistics: As of the first quarter of fiscal 2025, the total headcount in these firms stands at approximately 1,523,742, only slightly down from 1,525,776 in March 2024. Hiring Mandates: The number of open mandates in IT has increased from about 1,000-1,200 in 2023-24 to around 1,500-1,600 currently, indicating a potential uptick in hiring activity. This shift marks a hopeful turn for the IT sector after a challenging period characterized by reduced project pipelines and cautious hiring practices.
