The Department of Commerce is aiming to achieve a $2 trillion in goods and services exports by 2030 through a five-year action plan. The plan will focus on expanding and diversifying products, facilitating MSME exports, growing e-commerce, boosting the services sector, improving logistics, and reducing transaction time and costs. The government plans to implement interventions over the long term to ensure steady growth in exports, with a final goal of $1 trillion exports of goods and $1 trillion exports of services by 2030. The 3rd India-Japan 2+2 Ministerial Dialogue marks a new chapter in the strategic partnership between India and Japan. As both countries navigate the complexities of the Indo-Pacific region, their collaboration will be crucial in ensuring peace, stability, and prosperity in the region. The dialogue has not only reinforced the existing defense and security ties between the two nations but has also opened up new avenues for cooperation in areas such as defense technology, economic development, and regional security. Particularly, rejuvenating the 2011 Project on Collaboration for the local production of the famed US2 amphibious aircraft is a fit case for deepening the collaboration. The spin off benefits would also assist in building civilian amphibian aircraft manufacturing capability and in conformance with the recent rules for seaplan operations promulgated on 22 August 2024. An engaging view of India's foreign policy concerns and areas that will need our attention. Ambassador Sujan R Chinoy, Director general of the Institute for Defence Studies and Analyses is worth a deep listen, this election season - making the case for balanced aggression (my phrase). While it needs an entire post in itself - the political debates in GE-24 continue to remain at the level of pedestrian idealism perpetuated by the intellectual grandees of socialism/leftism/left-liberalism. In this environment, Amb. Chinoy's views foregrounds foreign/defence policy concerns, for the Centre. The Left-liberal intellectual position in its 21st century avatar, denuded and delusional through its faux-idealism, is largely a fig-leaf, used by politicians in India as a technique-in-perpetuity to misdirect from grimy political corruption. The rich vs poor debate, abadi-haq etc serve as useful deflections, the art of raising the consciousness of the "poor", not for social-mobility, but to harvest their votes - without having to deliver any significant impact on infrastructure, means of livelihood, basic shelter, health and sanitation. Unless, you consider the rabbit-out-of-the-hat money-printing economics as a reasonable solution - (my post on dimsums and all that!) https://lnkd.in/g2n669rx The reduction of the electoral debate to ideological cliches like "autocracy" "fascism" and "backsliding of democracy", interpreted for convenience, and the sudden coordinated attempt in the international media to paint a narrative that delegitimizes, conflicts with the more confident reality on the ground - and is evasive on real issues that matter to people. [1:12:18] onwards has some interesting views on asymmetrical threats from non-state / quasi-state actors and new identity groupings whose interests are vested in a transnational alliance - often contrasting with national positions - insidious and sometimes useful, depending on how it plays out. With social media and connectivity, we now have a "level playing field" for free speech. The consequence - the equivocation and support for all kinds of kooky theories from amorphous entities whose primary allegiance and interests are hard to fathom. The other consequence of this "transnational appeal" - Actors and even institutions have begun treating the socially-constructed truths of their "ideological" positions as transcending the state, and in effect, dampening and sometimes aggressively negating the need for negotiation, within the societies of their existence.

#DisasterManagement #SymposiumCumTableTopEx #ArmyCentralCommand #NDMA #UPSDMA #USDMA #MPSDMA #HPSDMA Professionally very satisfying and enriching to have had the opportunity to give the opening talk on 'DM Perspective in India' and conduct the Table Top Exercise (TTEx) in a seminal ground breaking event involving the Army Central Command, the states of UP, Uttarakhand, Madhya Pradesh & Himachal, and all major national disaster alert generating and research agencies. Sharing a post by Lt Gen Syed Ata Hasnain that encapsulates the event.👇 For the first time ever the NDMA and Indian Army's HQ Central Command Lucknow came together to conduct the first Joint Symposium and Table Top Exercise (TTEx) on Disaster Risk Reduction and Response, at Lucknow on 16 May. On board were the State Disaster Management Authorities (SDMAs) of four states in AOR of Central Comd - UP, MP, HP and Uttarkhand. Making major contributions to Awareness Generation were the NDMA, the Army itself, IAF, BRO, NDRF, Central Water Commission, Indian Meteorological Department, DGRE ( Former SASE), Geological Survey of India, NCS, National Remote Sensing Centre, ITBP, SSB, SDRF, Indian Railways and MoRTH. Specialists on Glacial Lake Outburst Floods, Earthquake, Landslides and Forest Fire also participated. The TTEx was conducted by Maj Gen Sudhir Bahl, Lead Consultant NDMA, on the format of a Sand Model Discussion, the way it is done in the Indian Army. Learning experience for those attending and even more for those conducting the event. Flawless administration and logistics by HQ Central Comd and UPSDMA. A general 'feel good' among all that a degree of coordination and integration is happening in the the domain of disaster management. Next stop HQ Eastern Comd with SDMAs of Sikkim, West Bengal, Arunachal Pradesh and Assam. Other NE states - Mizoram, Nagaland, Manipur, Tripura and Manipur could be clubbed in another event at HQ 3 Corps. Later this could go to HQ Southern Comd for the coastal states. With the Army being virtual first responder in the Himalayan states, it is now coming on board for professional orientation and integration with a plethora of organizations, all equal players in Disaster Management. We go by the adage - All of Government, and All of Public Approach in both Disaster Management and in War. Hence the need for all to be oriented to this domain which is becoming an essential part of National Security. Lt Gen Raja Subramani, PVSM, AVSM, SM, VSM GOC-in-C Central Comd, took the initiative here and the NDMA leadership thanks him and his staff for the tremendous professional support. NDMA leadership also thanks Lt Gen YS Dimri PVSM, AVSM, VSM, Vice Chairman UPSDMA and his excellent staff for the meticulous logistics. The Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Ministry of Commerce & Industry and the National Council of Applied Economic Research (NCAER) to conduct a study on logistics costs in India for 2023-24. The MoU aims to examine major determinants and influencing factors in each sector of the economy, as well as intangible and indirect elements of sub-elements, including the cost of delay. EAST TECH SYMPOSIUM 2024 ‘Soldiering with Technovation’ 05 – 06 November 2024 | Biswa Bangla Mela Prangan, Kolkata, West Bengal The East Tech Symposium 2024, jointly organised by HQ Eastern Command (Indian Army), the Society of Indian Defence Manufacturers (SIDM), and the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), is scheduled on 5th - 6th November 2024 at Biswa Bangla Mela Prangan (BBMP) in Kolkata, West Bengal. As the largest command of the Indian Army, the Eastern Command holds significant strategic responsibilities. Through their Special Financial Powers, they are empowered to procure equipment aimed at enhancing operational capabilities. The East Tech Symposium 2024 serves as a platform for the industry to exhibit its technical expertise and innovative solutions across a range of domains, including Weapons, Unmanned Systems, Counter Drones, Land Systems, Mobility Solutions (for both goods and troops), Troop Protection and Sustenance, Surveillance (with a special focus on night and long-range systems), Communication, Navigation, and Maintenance, Repair & Overhaul (MRO), Certain Services among others. Senior officers from the Eastern Command, along with representatives from the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF), will attend the symposium to evaluate the technologies and solutions on display. Their assessments will guide future procurement under the Special Powers granted to Army Commands, aimed at bolstering the operational readiness and capability of the Command. In addition, the Eastern Command has expressed interest in conducting No Cost No Commitment (NCNC) trials for ready-to-induct products and equipment showcased by participating industries. Shortlisted products will be required to remain with the Eastern Command for the duration of these NCNC trials. Companies with products that are ready for deployment and open to participating in these trials are additionally encouraged indicate their willingness (for the NCNC trials), when completing the Exhibition Registration Form. Alongside the exhibition, a series of thematic sessions will be organised, offering deeper insights into the business opportunities available with HQ Eastern Command. These sessions will provide a valuable platform for participants to engage with key decision-makers and understand the specific needs of the Eastern Command.
