Digital media company Rediff has appointed Vishal Mehta as its new Chairman and Managing Director (CMD). The appointment comes after fintech major Infibeam Avenues announced the acquisition of Rediff[dot]com India Ltd. Mehta will succeed Ajit Balakrishnan, who founded the company in 1996. FinTalks: National Payments Corporation Of India (NPCI) has released guidelines for Merchant Acquisition for BHIM Aadhaar Pay, a digital payments system that uses Aadhaar biometrics. The guidelines ensure that all merchants using BHIM Aadhaar Pay comply with the standard operating procedures (SOPs) and security measures. 1️⃣ The guidelines state that banks are fully responsible for onboarding and managing merchants for BHIM Aadhaar Pay. Banks can onboard merchants either directly or via approved aggregators/partners. Banks must have defined policies for merchant acquisition and agreements with all parties involved, including merchants and aggregators. 2️⃣ Banks must conduct thorough underwriting processes for merchants and continuously monitor their portfolios to mitigate risks. The guidelines require banks to train merchants on BHIM Aadhaar Pay. Banks must also provide oversight and governance for third-party agents involved in merchant acquisition. 3️⃣ The guidelines also require banks to assign the correct Merchant Category Code (MCC) based on the nature of the business. However, specific MCCs related to cash services are not allowed for BHIM Aadhaar Pay, and cash withdrawal transactions are strictly prohibited. Finally, the guidelines emphasize that banks must ensure compliance with Aadhaar regulations and National Payments Corporation Of India (NPCI) guidelines.
