The Golden Age of Indian cinema (1940s-1960s) saw the rise of influential scriptwriters like Khwaja Ahmad Abbas and Salim-Javed, who created memorable stories and dialogues. This era produced classics like "Mother India" (1957) and "Mughal-e-Azam" (1960). Salim-Javed's partnership in the 1970s and 1980s brought a new dimension to scriptwriting with iconic films such as "Sholay" (1975) and "Deewaar" (1975), blending strong narratives with commercial appeal. Parallel cinema, emerging in the 1950s, offered more realistic and socially relevant themes. Scriptwriters like Satyajit Ray and Ritwik Ghatak played pivotal roles in this movement, with Ray's "Pather Panchali" (1955) gaining international acclaim. In recent decades, scriptwriting in India has evolved with the advent of digital media and globalization. Contemporary writers like Anurag Kashyap and Juhi Chaturvedi have pushed boundaries, exploring diverse genres and complex characters. The rise of streaming platforms has further expanded opportunities for innovative storytelling, ensuring that Indian scriptwriting continues to thrive and adapt.

✊🏼Reclaiming Crip and Queer stories in the digital space - A workshop by team RDI at FTX '24, by POV Mumbai! Revival Disability India is a collective led and driven by queer disabled folks. It started as a resistance of disabled bodies intertwined with feminist care. We are rooted in creating a disabled feminist culture. With storytelling as our methodology, we aspire to build a social movement that honours Access Justice. Our community-led projects involve activism through art, toolkits, narratives, evidence-based research and crip time. We build our workshops and modules taking Crip time as the center of time and disabled ways of caring, working and surviving as a principle. At the FTX workshop, we spoke about Digital rights, intimacies, and accessible activism. Here’s a look at our time in Mumbai, through pictures! Every workshop of ours has a table full of Stim Toys* We recognise each of us belong in this space in different ways, each of us take up space in different ways. Participants can sit, stand, lie down, listen to this session according to their own comfort. Revival is a space where we’re free to be whoever we want to be, devoid of any able-bodied norms or routines. *Stim toys, also known as sensory toys, are designed to provide sensory input and can be super helpful for stress relief and focus. We believe a person can resist from anywhere: referring to the vision and value of our collective. We are resisting from our wheelies, beds, chairs, with and without our mobility aids. Every form of movement or non-movement is valid and we enter the revolution in different ways by walking, wheeling, limping or hopping. For a lot of us who belong to structurally excluded groups, the only way we’ve made any sense of our marginalities is by writing, more writing, and conversing with fellow CripQueer community members. Dr. Devi Shetty gave a clear statement. Liked it a lot - Dr. Devi Shetty writes: Lost 8/9 of my dearest acquaintances and some celebrities forever in last few years. They were in their forties and died because of the extra effort to be 'physically fit'. Unfortunately - they just looked fit, had six packs or something. Puneeth also joined that list. In anything in life, the most important thing is moderation. "Neither the 'zero figure' nor the exaggeration of a hundred is correct. A moderate amount of exercise is needed every day - about 20 minutes. Eat everything, no detoxification, no keto moto diet, eat everything your ancestors ate, all local and seasonal foods available in your town - but in small amounts. No need for exotic kiwi fruit, kale or olive oil. 7 hours of intensive sleep is required, the needs of the body must be met, but it should not be through steroids or performance enhancing drugs. Eat everything you ate growing up, but in small amounts; Do twenty/thirty minutes of light exercise and a little walk regularly and stop taking supplements. Do you understand my message? Nothing, just mediocrity. Add a few moments of silent meditation a day to your routine, this is best done through prayer. One very important thing is to listen, understand and pay attention to body language. You have to understand your body, your responsibility. After 40 some physiological changes start, after 50 more, after 60 the body starts to relax, after 70 it starts to close, after 80 every year is a bonus. So 60 is the new 40 or age is just a number - stop saying that. These are not correct. After 40 or 50, be grateful if your health is intact, but slow down a bit to keep your heart rate up. Please try to understand - there are logical reasons for timing retirement. Your body and mind can no longer handle the pressure that you once could. You look great on the outside, thanks to your 'genes', but on the inside the organs are decaying. Be happy and beautiful, not outwardly, but inwardly as well. || Footnote 1|| In summary there are 6 instructions: ▪20 minutes of light exercise ▪Walking regularly ▪Seven hours of deep sleep ▪Some time alone meditation ▪Eating all foods - in small amounts ▪Listening to the body and taking action accordingly. || Footnote 2 || No theory is universal, those who disagree, that's their right - I respect their opinion. It isn’t easy to ‘sell’ a story pitch on floods in North Bihar. Why? Because most (English) media houses feel there’s nothing ‘new’ in the suffering of millions of people who face floods annually and have been doing so for generations. Can we ever imagine the plight and pain of marginalised and vulnerable communities who lose their homes almost every year and rebuild it, just to lose it again in the next wave of floods? Not just the house, they also lose stored foodgrains and standing crops. Further, they also ‘lose’ their entire village as the Himalayan rivers cause heavy land erosion and the entire village is ‘lost’ and people move around finding a safe piece of land as if they were in a game of musical chairs. The entire region remains in a state of flux! Internal displacement aside, young male members of these marginalised communities outmigrate for 6-8 months in a year to earn a living. They send remittances home, which are used to rebuild home and restart lives, only to be disrupted and displaced again. The vicious cycle continues… Engineering solutions like embankments and climate change linked erratic rainfall are accentuating their misery. This article explores indigenous ways of knowing and ecological perspectives as reflected in the poetry from India's Northeast region. During both the colonial and post-colonial era, Northeast India has been imagined and reimagined as a resource-rich frontier meant to fuel colonial/national growth. However, this push for integrating the region into the global capitalist economy has led to significant environmental degradation. Sadly, national development policies have often ignored or overlooked the rich tribal epistemology and ecological wisdom that have sustained the region for centuries...
