The biggest hurdle that I faced while building my PR agency was building my team. We all know that no company can grow without a high-performing team! After numerous interviews and high attrition rates, I've realized that certain qualities are essential for a successful hire. I learned many things in my journey, and here is how you can utilize this too: 📍Patience and Perseverance: Look for individuals who embrace challenges and persevere even when the going gets tough. 📍Growth Mindset: Look for candidates who are open to feedback and continuously strive to improve themselves. Being a 'Control-Freak' has its advantages and disadvantages. 🤖 When I started my journey as a Brand Strategist and gradually got my skills up as a Visualiser, my job primarily entailed a lot of cerebral orientation. For the execution bit, I always had to depend on my team. Gradually with the work growing, I learned a few skills and started keeping a few executions to myself. The 'few' kept on growing. A time came when I would want to delegate less and try to keep some things to myself because I knew what I had envisioned, and how exactly I wanted the output to be. Time management started becoming an issue. During my emergencies, my team was unaware of the things I was handling, and they had to pick things from the dark to manage them. I thought I was helping my team, by keeping things to me, reducing a part of their workload. God knows how wrong I was! In the journey of perfection, I weakened the system flow. It took quite a while for me (and thanks to my friend turned business partner Rahul Bagchi) to begin delegating again. I have a good team. I just didn't trust myself enough to see it through, I guess! It's a work-in-progress. I am a less 'Control Freak' now, which mostly works to my advantage only. I learned the hard way. Today, while writing a text for a client, I experienced that poetic inspiration that strikes like lightning.⚡ In a split second, while researching a post, I read a line that gave me a brand-new idea. So, I abandoned the text I was working on and started fresh. The words poured out of my fingertips and onto the page. Five minutes later, I had a text I was really proud of. 👉 Even more, while writing it, I realized that if I looked at the same idea from a different angle, I could transform it into a post for a completely different client - in an entirely different field. But the truth is… these moments are one of a kind. If I waited for inspiration like this to write, I’d be lucky to write once a year. For the other 99% of the time? ✅ It’s structure. ✅ It’s research. ✅ It’s letting “the bad words” and awkward sentences spill onto the page so the great ones can follow. It’s a process. It’s a struggle. And… it’s a job. Learn the discipline to write even when you don’t feel like it, and you’re golden. Because at the end of the day, writing isn’t about waiting for the muse to visit. There's a session at The Copy Traineeship dedicated to 'crafting'. And here's what we do there. I give out 2 (seemingly) simple briefs. On 2 fictitious brands. But before the session starts, the trainees vote for the winning brands. The session is divided into 3 parts. The first 20 minutes or so are spent in writing headlines on the two brands. The second 20 minutes are spent re-writing them to make them better. Then we spend the remaining 30 minutes picking the best from the lot, and I craft them out further. So at the end of the session, we see the origin of the line, and where it now is, post crafting. Tonight's session is going to be interesting, I think. "How to be a good writer?" 🔞 . . . If you answer this by saying "reading more and writing 10x more", you are only 31% right. If you can't trigger or hit the GC-Spot (Good Copy Spot, a copy/content that makes people wonder why couldn't they write the same copy/content in the first place; because it is THAT good, everybody wants to write it first.). Writing the said GC-Spot gives you the remaining 69% of edge. Always make the audience feel relatable and leave them with the thought of, "Why couldn't I think of this copy/content?" From Design Intern to "Intern-preneur" Years of hustling from intern to CEO What did I learn? 1️⃣ There's no shortcut to success, be prepared to work hard and learn as you go. During my time in Symbiosis in 2015, I engaged in internships at Ogilvy and other powerhouses. It was an insightful experience, but by 2016, the entrepreneurial itch became too strong to ignore. Starting 3 Minds Digital was a leap of passion, and let's just say we learned a ton along the way. Growing the team from 3 to over 100, snagging awards, and helping businesses crush it has been incredibly rewarding. 2️⃣ The market is constantly changing, so be willing to adapt and try new things. While 3 Minds Digital was thriving, my curiosity wouldn't let me rest. In 2017, I founded Design Pitch Deck, a venture focused on crafting killer pitch decks. This was another new adventure, but it taught me the importance of constantly adapting and learning. 3️⃣ Surround yourself with talented and supportive people who share your vision. Looking back, the biggest takeaway isn't the awards or the client list (although those are pretty cool!). It's the incredible people I've been lucky to work with. Building a strong, supportive team is the secret sauce to my successful venture. My entrepreneurial journey has been a rollercoaster, but the most valuable lessons often emerge from unexpected twists.
