    'VYOM' is India's first Sounding Rocket designed and realized by the students of IIST. The project was carried out under the guidance and supervision of the experts from vikram sarabhai space centre (VSSC), Thiruvananthapuram and the faculty members of IIST. The project director of VYOM was Dr K N Ninan, former deputy director, PCME, VSSC, who joined IIST as emeritus professor.

    May 11th 2012 IIST Student sounding rocket was successfully launched from TERLS in the very first attempt.

  • Conceptual design of low powered sailplane

    A project under the aerospace design vehicle course.

    Aim and objectives: To make a conceptual design of a low powered sailplane having an ability to fly for a minimum period of two hours. It has to be radio controlled from ground and must be able to do real-time imaging. The sailplane has to be launched by a powered winch.
