The study by the Reuters Institute aimed to understand how news is being consumed in India. Research was conducted using an online questionnaire at the end of April and May 2024. A total of 2016 respondents were sampled using nationally representative quotas for age, gender, and education in the top six cities. The data is representative of younger English speakers and not the national population, as it is not possible to reach other groups in a representative way using an online survey. The respondents self-completed the questionnaire. This may not always reflect people's actual behavior due to biases and imperfect recall. While useful for capturing people's opinions, these are subjective and reflect public opinion rather than objective reality. What is love? Recently someone asked me - " What is love according to you?" . You write so much about love and relationships, what do you think love is all about. My own understanding of love has evolved a lot over years. From the time I was young to now, way I think about love has changed drastically. For me love is simply put just these two things - understanding and consideration. In any relationship not just romantic love as such , if you love someone, you need to have these two aspects- understanding and consideration. What does it truly mean? If I love someone, my way of expressing that love would be by understanding them. Being understood even when you are at your worst is possibly the best you can do for someone you love. We all go through our best times and our worst times. Everyone wants us in our best times but only few understand our worst times. When we understand someone in their worst - we are offering them love we have. Being understood, is possibly the most important thing in any relationship. Consideration is what love is all about. When I love someone, I will consider how they feel. I will consider the impact of my words, thoughts and actions on them. I will be mindful that I do not cause pain to them in anyway. Most of us have utmost consideration for ourselves . We hurt someone , we immediately make excuse for our behavior - they did this to me and so on. But its very rarely do we consider someone else beyond ourselves. When we do, it's the truest expression of love. I would want everyone I love to feel understood and feel that there is genuine consideration for them when they are with me. And this is not just romantic love. Love has many hues in any case. When you extend these two things to many people, you are increasing your love from being restricted to few and sharing it with many. Isn't that what finding divinity all about? Becoming more considerate, empathetic and kind. We all are seeking love but how can you seek till you give? Everyone wants to receive love. Makes me wonder who wants to give love? By Preeta Sanjith
