Financial inclusion remains a top priority for both the Indian central bank and the government, especially as a significant portion of the rural population still lacks access to formal banking services. Deputy Governor Swaminathan J of the Reserve Bank of India emphasized the importance of bridging the digital gap to achieve financial inclusion in India. He highlighted that as financial services increasingly migrate online, there's a risk of leaving behind those without digital access or knowledge. Swaminathan stressed the necessity of tailored digital literacy programs to empower diverse demographic groups to participate in the modern financial system, leveraging affordable technology. Moreover, he emphasized the ongoing need for capacity building among financial literacy counselors to keep them updated on evolving financial products and customer protection measures. Regular training programs and leveraging technology for education were suggested as effective strategies. Swaminathan also called for enhanced collaboration among stakeholders, including banks, NGOs, and block-level officials, to ensure seamless delivery of financial inclusion initiatives. 🚀 Dvara KGFS Raises $10 Million in Debt Funding from BlueOrchard Microfinance Fund!!!! 🚀 Dvara Kshetriya Gramin Financial Services (Dvara KGFS), a leading financial services provider focused on rural India, has successfully secured $10 million in debt funding from the BlueOrchard Microfinance Fund, a prominent global impact investor. This funding was obtained through the issuance of listed non-convertible foreign currency bonds via the External Commercial Borrowings (ECB) route, and these bonds are now listed on the India International Exchange in GIFT City, Gujarat. L V L N Murty, Managing Director & CEO of Dvara KGFS, shared the company’s growth plans: “We aim to grow by 40% in the current financial year, and exploring various avenues for raising liquidity is crucial to ensuring a well-diversified resource profile. Partnering with like-minded foreign funds in the impact space will be key to expanding our reach and empowering more underserved communities with access to critical financial services.” This strategic initiative not only strengthens Dvara KGFS’s financial stability but also enhances its presence in the international debt market, offering sustainable access to lower-cost debt. Shilpa Bhatter, CFO of Dvara KGFS, emphasized the importance of this development: “Listing our debt on the India International Exchange increases our visibility in the rapidly evolving international debt market, securing sustainable access to lower-cost debt and enabling us to maximize our impact on rural communities.” Earlier this month, SME lending platform Lendingkart also raised $10 million via external commercial borrowing from a BlueOrchard fund listed on the India International Exchange, highlighting a growing trend among Indian financial services firms leveraging international markets for funding. Last year, Dvara KGFS raised $14.4 million through listed non-convertible debentures (NCDs) from the Singapore-based Impact Investment Exchange. This continuous flow of investments demonstrates the confidence global investors have in Dvara KGFS’s mission and operational model. Dvara KGFS operates over 400 branches across 110 districts in 10 states, serving more than 2.41 million customers in rural India through an omni-channel approach. In its latest financial stability report released this week, Reserve Bank of India (RBI) says its approach of balancing growth and stability, 'with willingness to take proactive and prudent actions to prevent accumulation of risks,' is boosting stability of financial system. Gross bad loans as a share of overall loans at banks declined to 2.8% last fiscal, a multi-year low, the report added.
