At least going by my LinkedIn feed and trade portal stories, it appears that newly-established script shops, TVC production houses and Gen Z founded and focused ad agencies have good access to founders, CEOs and CMOs. And they are able to get unconventional work approved & released. That kind of access used to be the strong point of senior folks in legacy agencies a few years ago. #advertising

We talk about how amazing B2C brands have become a common noun/verb of their own. You Uber to work, Xerox a page, Google information or Photoshop something. Heck! You go into rural or even semi-urban North India, and you will see people asking the local shopkeeper for "Colgate." One B2B brand I am truly amazed by in this regard (and frustrated with!) is the good ol' Calendly. Look, Calendly is great. I was one of the early adopters almost a decade back and it soon became the classic "viral loop" dream for marketers with its brilliant "Powered by Calendly" growth hack (along with Dropbox). They literally had PLG going at scale before buzzwords like PLG and "growth hacking" were even coined. Since then, I have been a part of multiple GTM orgs where I got a chance to solve for growth at scale. The humble meeting scheduler is an essential component of any classic B2B SaaS GTM org. And invariably, sales reps would just use Calendly, though the ops team would have spent significant time and energy customizing & integrating the shiny new meeting booker with the sales process plus CRM. And it's not just a couple of rogue reps doing it - it's EVERYONE. Calendly is truly underrated in the world of brands. They probably had the first-mover advantage and a great product that solved a real problem. And today, they are a common noun in the world of sales. These days, when I want to meet someone, I just send them my Hubspot Meeting link and ask them to choose a time slot from my Calendly. Can you think of any B2B brands that have become a common noun or verb?

These days, every day in the world of digital marketing is starting with scouring the web for current affairs in the regulatory, privacy world as it pertains to Advertising Ecosystem and the big partners who drive this world. Every article generally has its own element of bias. As long as you know it, you will make a sound judgment.

I think storytelling is extremely important for all tech brands. One of the key aspects of storytelling in tech branding is its ability to create an emotional connection between the brand and its audience. Stories that illustrate the brand’s mission, values, and vision allow consumers to see beyond the products and services, engaging with the underlying ethos of the company. Secondly, storytelling serves as a powerful tool to simplify and humanize complex technological concepts. As a marketer, we try to understand the products & services that we offer and then try to simplify through relatable anecdotes and compelling narratives, and with that, brands can make complex innovations more accessible and understandable. This not only aids in demystifying technology for a broader audience but also positions the brand as a thought leader and innovator in the field. Successful storytelling also highlights the real-world impact of a brand’s offerings. By showcasing stories of how their technology has made a difference in people’s lives, companies can provide tangible proof of their value and relevance. I often ponder how user behavior and decision-making while buying a product/service has evolved over different eras. From India transitioning into the production era post-independence, where choices were limited, to the current buyer's economy with increased competition and options, the landscape has transformed significantly. In the early 2000s to the present day, liberalization and enhanced post-sales services have reshaped the market dynamics, leading to a shift towards a buyer's economy. This shift has revolutionized the decision-making process for users across all purchasing spectrums, from everyday items like safety pins to significant investments like cars. The advent of social media has played a pivotal role in empowering users to voice their concerns, appreciation, and feedback through reviews. Consequently, businesses have been compelled to adapt by embracing data analytics, enhancing user touchpoints, and refining their products/services to meet evolving consumer demands. While some sectors like electricity remain monopolized due to government control, the majority have witnessed increased competitiveness and consolidation.
