    Software testing and learning content development involve repetitive testing of the products for regression analysis whenever new product versions are released. The process of testing is manual intensive and can be quite laborious in the product development lifecycle.

    Summary of the project:
    Software testing and learning content development involve repetitive testing of the products for regression analysis whenever new product versions are released. The process of testing is manual intensive and can be quite laborious in the product development lifecycle.
    To replace manual labor, the traditional automation tools such as Selenium/QTP bring in more challenges and risks that make it almost impossible to achieve the desired objectives.
    PTC worked with Qualitia Software to initiate a project to find feasible approach/solution for performing test automation that can satisfy all business expectations.
    Overall project execution to develop and adopt the solution spanned 3 years and was completed during the FY2011.
    Since there were several unknowns in the scope, several POCs were conducted to prove the approach and get clarity on the scope for the solution.
    Statement or description of work:
    Develop and support adoption of Selenium-based Test Automation Solution with the following objectives, scope, and exclusions.
    Objectives:
    1. Build a generic Test Automation Solution that can be scalable across projects for Web-based applications. So, essentially the model with its generic code components can be directly used on other Web-based projects.
    2. Easy-to-use Solution that will enable Testers with least experience on SELENIUM to be productive in building Automation test suites.
    3. Once implemented, this enables a pool of resources to be leveraged across the organization, thus reducing the resource (human resource as well as software & hardware resources) cost.

    Outstanding Project management best practices to be showcased:
    1. Application of strategy in finding a solution to a complex problem such as overcoming barriers with Test Automation.
    2. Because we are dealing with a complex project defining solutions to multiple business problems, we had performed several POCs and pilot tests to prove that the solution being evolved works for us
