Interview Experience Visa for Senior Software Engineer Round 1: Hackerank 4 questions - 1 easy, 2 medium, 1 hard scored about 80% and got to next round Round 2: DSA Round Leetcode Medium question. The problem was quite conceptual and focused less on any specific data structure. Back and forth conversation with 2 interviewers and eventually coding it. Round 3: Java Concepts and HLD This round was with a team lead and was focused on Java. Detailed discussions on data structures in Java and their internal working. Thread safe alternatives of specific data structures etc. HLD was on a generic app with basic features. Focus was on discussing architectural tradeoffs and choices made based on requirements. A very fun conversation with alot of brainstorming. Round 4: Hiring Manager Round started with previous experience and contributions made. My previous organisation gave me alot of ownership and that reflected well in my interviews. Some fun tactical questions trying to guage if i understand the concept behind them and the design patterns that could be used. After a week i got the offer. System Design Challenges: Stock Broking Platform - Zerodha Zerodha is a stock trading platform like Robinhood in the USA. 📈 These are just intermediary platforms and they don't buy or sell stocks on their own, they use the exchange for the same. One of the most important challenges that these platforms face is that while a user cancels an order which was placed, these platforms need to make sure that the order is cancelled from the exchange side as well before acknowledging to the user about cancellation. 🔒 One race condition that can happen is that the order gets executed just before the cancellation reaches the exchange. So last year, in August, Zomato, for the first time, began charging a platform fee of Rs. 2 per order. Then, just in the new year, they again raised their charge to Rs. 4 per order in key markets around to make more profit out of that. Then, in April, it increased the fee by 25% to Rs.5 per order. Last month, the fee went up again to Rs. per order. So, Zomato has raised its platform fee three times this year, going from Rs. 2 per order to Rs. 6. Even with these changes, the number of Zomato's monthly customers has stayed about the same. For example, the average number of monthly customers was 17.5 million in Q1 FY24, 18.4 million in Q2, 18.8 million in Q3, 19 million in Q4, and 20.3 million in Q1 FY25. In the 2023–24 financial year, the platform fee was one of the top three things that helped increase Zomato's revenue. The other two were money made from operations and customer delivery charges. Here's my interview experience for the SWE Intern role at Swiggy, which might be helpful for anyone aiming for this position. The process kicked off with a DSA Test on hackerrank, an elimination round. In total, there were 3️⃣ rounds: Round 1️⃣ - DSA Test: This round included 4 medium-level LeetCode questions, with one focused on dynamic programming (DP). Round 2️⃣ - DSA Interview: I was presented with 1 medium and 1 hard DSA problem, followed by in-depth discussions on my approach and potential optimizations. Round 3️⃣ - Interview with Engineering Manager: This final round involved a in-depth discussion about my previous internships, projects, and some design-related questions. The entire process was smooth, and I received an offer the very next day 🎉.

Started my DSA revision journey on June 9th after last attempting it in 2017-2018 when I was trying for the #FAANG companies when I desperately needed my STEM OPT Extension. I worked hard for 3 months or so, and did get called for the YouTube headquarters in #SanBruno as well as to Amazon headquarters in #Seattle. I was happy when I cracked the on-site interviews but somehow missed their last rounds for some reason. I should have revised and re-attempted my interviews after 6-8 months, which I never did. That's on me!! I thought that time was tough running after my May 2018 deadline of F1 OPT, but going through DSA now while working as well as working on side projects and trainings is slightly getting heavy as well. But after grinding though the last 5 weeks or so, going through around 61 questions, and solving about 36 questions with a max time limit of 30-40 mins is decent in my eyes. Just need to grind more for about 2 months or so, and solving around 150 questions or so should get back in track. Need to get in touch with #DSA and #SystemDesign even after one goes in the workforce. Do comment your #DSA journey as well.

#Day61 of #100DaysOfCode This morning, I received an email about being shortlisted for the first round at Swiggy. I need to build a game using LLD concepts and write unit tests for the program. If I clear this round, an interview will be scheduled for the LLD round. 🚀 Did find how many times array is rotated using Binary Search. ✨ Revised Maximum Path Sum Binary Tree. 🪶 Learned about how subscription model works. (Like how we calculate the subscribers and subscribed channels). 👉 Learn about What VM is?, What Hypervisor is? 🚀 Learn about AWS EC2, AWS CLI and AWS CFT. After mentoring 100s of folks and having 1000+ sessions on different platforms including topmate.io, Scaler, Crio.Do and others, I have observed that folks are not comfortable speaking 🗣️ up with-in their team, with colleagues, with Seniors and even Managers. This is the sole responsibility of Senior folks in the team to encourage juniors by asking questions in groups instead of clarifying their doubts 1:1. This actually encourages and opens up juniors to ask questions & get into open discussions. And in my experience one of the most underrated traits is, asking questions or looking for help without fear of being judged. So whenever in doubt 💭 🤨, ask questions even if they are silliest in your mind. It opens up new doors 🚪 and gives you wings 💸. #ask #curious #discussions

Here is my unpopular opinion (ekdum personal opinion) This is the total cost for an EARLY BIRD TICKET for an upcoming React event. ( 🤔 They charge 3.5% as a processing fee even for UPI transactions 🤔 ) My advice to a younger self (who would for sure be in a FOMO state right now with this fancy tech thing after learning that many of the people in the react community are attending it) would be if you're serious about your career, take a course on Frontend masters or udemy or utilize your money and time doing better things like writing articles, building projects, etc. If you are sceptical and tight on budget and have better plans for your leave, then let me summarise my experience of all the meetups I've ever been to which might help you in making a decision: In terms of tech: The speaker's time to explain the topic is insufficient for you to fully understand anything. So you'll end up making notes hoping you'll learn about it in your free time. This you can anyways do by watching YouTube or other from other places. In terms of Networking: I've met a few people with whom I connected on LinkedIn...but after coming home I don't even remember their names and I've never had any communication with them after that. Okay, you'll argue 10K is worth for your career, music concert costs even more, movies, food, etc, etc. But aren't there better things you could do with this 10k (and 2 days) for your career? For me, it's not worth even putting this ticket price for reimbursement 😺 (idk for some reason it was worth spending almost an hour writing this post) From personal experience, I can tell you that people don't lose their jobs or become less cool when they don't attend these events.

Atcoder Contest 354 All India Rank 5 Intuition of problems below. Problem A - Keep adding 2^i to check. Maximum LogH steps. [Also exists solutions like finding the highest set bit in H etc.] Problem B - Sort by lexicographic order and the find rank by sum modulo N. Problem C - Sort in increasing order by strength. Iterate from back and keep track of the minimum cost till now, if the current cost is higher than that, this card is not useful. Problem D - On the X axis, the pattern repeats after every 4 values and on Y it repeats every 2 values. So these 8 pattern areas can be saved. Now we count each pattern and multiply by this area. [For counting it's useful to think both axis can be counted independently and then multiplying) Problem E - Bitmasking dp. For each state, we try to remove any two pairs by removing this if we can reach any losing state, then it means this state is winning. Problem F - Do one iteration from the start and one from the end. Basically, for every index, calculate the max length of the increasing subsequence ending here and the max length of the increasing subsequence starting from here. Lots of folks are starting the internship in this month, some useful tips for interns for the internship period Personally, I interned at Intuit during my college time. I got the PPO. I couldn't join there though because of different factors, I chose to join Tower Research Capital after college. My suggestions for the internship period - 1) Taking some time to ramp up is okay and it's actually better in most cases. Taking some to get a sense of the overall context is useful and can save a lot of time in the coming days. How much time you can spend in this phase depends on your total internship duration. 2) After you start with your work, keep a doc for rough notes for yourself. Use this to note things like your doubts and your ideas. This helps in keeping track of the things you want to ask someone and ideas you want to discuss. As you spend more and more days in the internship, the usefulness of this will become more and more apparent. 3) Weekly take like 15-20 mins and document what you worked on this week. Collect if you made any new docs, or new CLs in a centralized place. This is super helpful when at the end of the internship you have to write a self-review for yourself. 4) You're an intern and most people understand that. You aren't expected to solve everything on your own. Feel free to ask doubts to the seniors. But before going for help, try to spend a little bit of time figuring out the answer yourself, this will build your confidence and make you more independent. 5) Be open to giving your own ideas. Theoretically, if you're working on a pre-existing project, understandably it would be hard for you to do that, but if you get any ideas, feel okay to share them. That's how you grow and generally, it's a good thing [of course it doesn't mean giving ideas only for the sake of giving]. All the best! Like and comment on this post if you found it useful.

Nowadays people with just 2-3 years experience who somehow have managed to get into FAANG are running masterclasses and running paid services to other techies on how to crack software coding interviews!! This got me thinking, perhaps I might also want to try my luck in this 😁 since I have some brownie points in my favour like below: 1) 11+ companies in last 16 years of industry experience, including Full time, contractor and freelance experience alike. 2) 100+ offers in last 16 years. 3) Worked in Startups like Cerebrata, Avoma etc. 4) Worked in product MNC's like Samsung, Delphi Automotive Systems, Veritas systems to name a few. 5) Worked in service based MNC's like Persistent Systems, Tata Elxsi to name a few. 6) Not an expert, but had the privilege to work in various domains like: Gaming & Graphics Automotive DTV Webapps Conversational AI & Selenium based AI bot Web Development ECommerce Data backup Telecom & VOIP Petroleum FTP Server 7) Languages - Expert: C++(all versions upto C++20) , C , Core Python. 🚀 100 Days of LeetCode Challenge: Day 2 🚀 Hey LinkedIn Family! 👋 I'm excited to kick off Day 2 of my 100 Days of LeetCode Challenge with a classic problem: Best Time to Buy and Sell Stocks 1 {LeetCode Q no - 121, Difficulty level - Easy🟩} Problem Statement: You are given an array prices where prices[i] is the price of a given stock on the ith day. You want to maximize your profit by choosing a single day to buy one stock and choosing a different day in the future to sell that stock. Return the maximum profit you can achieve from this transaction. If you cannot achieve any profit, return 0. Example 1: Input: prices = [7,1,5,3,6,4] Output: 5 Explanation: Buy on day 2 (price = 1) and sell on day 5 (price = 6), profit = 6-1 = 5. Note that buying on day 2 and selling on day 1 is not allowed because you must buy before you sell. Example 2: Input: prices = [7,6,4,3,1] Output: 0 Explanation: In this case, no transactions are done and the max profit = 0. *Big Kailash Fanboy* As a techie, I wonder how does zerodha handle millions of concurrent requests everyday, millions of transactions and all with just a team of 35 people. 35 people, really? “The tech team has two mobile developers, two designers, two frontend developers, one test engineer, one devops engineer, and one liaison who helps us keep track of communication with other sprawling departments.” - Kailash Well there are a lot reasons for building out something very successful which includes the engineering decisions that they have made over the last decade. And one of the important decision is in using open source software, which greatly benefits them in reducing costs. They use open source technologies like Postgres for storing data, Redis for caching. They dont stop there, instead of relying on external vendors to help them with customer support ticketing system, they leverage open source software like osTicket. Countless complex business, financial, account, people processes and backoffice applications are built atop ERP Next. For sending out emails, they self host open source SMTP providers like Haraka. Just by relying on open source tools, they save enough to which would otherwise impact zerodha’s profits heavily. No wonder why Zerodha and Kailash are heavily investing in FOSS, or should I say FLOSS?
