By 2047, small modular reactors (SMRs) are poised to play a pivotal role in enhancing India's power security. As the country strives to balance its growing energy needs with environmental sustainability, SMRs offer a promising solution due to their scalability, lower initial capital costs, and enhanced safety features. These reactors can be deployed in remote or off-grid areas, reducing transmission losses and improving energy access. Their flexibility allows for integration with renewable energy sources, addressing both base-load power requirements and intermittent supply issues. Additionally, SMRs' reduced physical footprint and advanced technology could help mitigate the challenges associated with large-scale nuclear facilities, thus contributing to a more resilient and diversified energy portfolio for India by mid-century. How India should move ahead and widely use this technology for future power security is rightly mentioned by Shri Amitabh Kant in following article #nuclearpower #SMR #smallmediumreactor #Indiapowersecurity #Netzero #NTPC. https://lnkd.in/gktUhCdy

During its last two terms at the helm, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) implemented many successful power sector reforms that saw the non-fossil fuel-based power generation capacity of India grow more than two-fold from 79 GW in 2014 to 206 GW currently. We expect the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance to keep India on track towards its goal of energy self-sufficiency by following its manifesto for its next tenure. Here’s some of what we at Rystad Energy expect to see over the next five years in India’s power market: - Via the implementation of the Surya Ghar Mufti Bijli Yojna Scheme, India’s rooftop PV installed capacity is expected to increase. The scheme focuses on the installation of residential PV on 10 million households, offering a reprieve from expensive electricity bills to low-income as well as middle-income households. - The country’s nascent offshore wind sector will see significant growth, with the central government committed to providing viability gap funding to the initial 1 GW of offshore wind farms that are commissioned. -The policies and schemes set in place to encourage domestic manufacturing and self-reliance have placed the country on the road to develop into a trusted supplier in the global renewable energy supply-chain. -Private investment in the nuclear energy sector is being encouraged by the central government, but much more will have to be done for India to reach its ambitious 2030 nuclear energy target of 22.5 GW. There are many imperatives of monetisation of natural gas looking forward the economics of its chemical structures, physical attributes, logistic advantages, particularity of geographies, commercial viability, product parity viz a viz alternative fuels or feedstocks and the elements of affordability, accessibility and acceptability. However so important the case, author’s bold take on element of taxation imposed by concerned quarters in variance and regional disparities is so vividly put forward. Without addressing this issue in rationality by the policy makers of the fuel economy, all measures will remain short lived without valuing a sustainable case of its long term synergy. Input credit claims, tax relief incidence leads to reduction in gas price benefitting all consumers, merit order dispatch to factor the externalities of emission hazards, besides PLI issue for nascent segment of long haul vehicles on LNG are no doubt very fit concerns for natural gas industry. Thank you Sandeep Gupta, CMD GAIL to bring out these critical business dynamics of this sector.Sandeep Kumar Gupta CMA Rakesh Kumar Jain Deepak Gupta Ayush Gupta Sanjay Kumar Rajeev Kumar Singhal

As it was predicted pre-election, Government of India might push for Green Hydrogen. Now the first step has been strongly put in that direction. This Electrical vehicle drive is to be well supported by Green Hydrogen drive to make it real source of alternate & clean energy. We need more such positive decisions in future as well, but Intent has been shown now. https://lnkd.in/gfdNrDQP

India is a global leader in large process industries, such as aluminium, steel, cement, etc. These industries need large amounts of uninterrupted power supply. Power supply interruption causes serious damage to the equipment also. A low-priced, stable power supply is very important for the success of these industries. Over the years, because of price increases and poor quality supply (restriction/shortage and voltage fluctuations), companies have installed large captive power plants largely using coal (sometimes energy produced as a by-product) and are responsible for large amounts of local pollution and CO2 emissions. In 2021/22, the total capacity of captive power plants was 76 732 MW, which includes steam (coal)—45 302 MW, diesel—18 648 MW, natural gas—5 685 MW, and the remaining 7095 MW renewables + hydro (around 9%).
