Food for thought 🤔 (read in a book few years back) In the game of football during penalty shootout goalkeepers are twice as likely to save a penalty if they stay in the middle of the goal rather than dive to one side or the other. Most goalkeepers know this but rarely stand their ground. The value of being seen to do something is higher than that of doing nothing. The goalkeeper doesn’t attract the blame, if they dive and the opponent scores. Fear of blame sub consciously overrules a perfectly good strategy Standing still is therefore the optimum strategy for saving penalties ,obviously one can’t do this every time, a degree of randomness is needed. Now replace football with life…we don’t need to jump left and right every time to save the goal, standing still is the best strategy at times #FoodForThought #LifeLessons #OptimumStrategy #GoalSetting #MindsetShift

Woke up to this ET article on the demand for ESG skills and it resonated deeply with me. At VCNow by Unified Collaboration Services too, we’re witnessing a distinct interest in #ESG skills among learners. In our interactions with B-schools, course modules around #greenskills often figure in our discussions. A recent LinkedIn report pointed towards the wide skill-gap globally when it comes to green skills, but I’d think that India—with its push to achieve net zero emissions in less than 50 years from now, a large workforce eager to upskill, and a highly developed #executiveeducation ecosystem—is poised to bridge this skill-gap soon and maybe more effectively than its western counterparts. The Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research and Climate Analytics have studied the potential impacts of temperature increases from 2ºC to 4ºC in various regions, including South Asia, India, South East Asia, and Sub-Saharan Africa, offering insights on agriculture, water resources, cities, and coastal ecosystems. Reflecting on an insightful article I recently read in ETHR, I couldn’t help but think about the massive changes businesses are experiencing across the world. With new technologies, shifting workforce dynamics, and global events, talent acquisition priorities are evolving rapidly. It is no longer just about filling positions quickly. Now, it is about balancing the quality of hires with hiring speed, keeping hiring managers happy and candidates engaged. One game-changer? Talent Acquisition analytics. The right TA Analytics processes and tools can transform the hiring process, making it more transparent and efficient. But it is crucial to tailor these metrics to specific roles and industries. From my experience, a holistic approach that balances both qualitative and quantitative metrics leads to more strategic hiring decisions. Continuous improvement is key—regularly reviewing and adjusting talent acquisition strategies based on performance data is essential. And let us not forget the importance of technology integration —having other TA tech like assessment/sourcing tools, job boards integrate with ATS and CRM can streamline processes and reduce time-to-hire. A staggering 90% of this industry is concentrated in Sivakasi, Tamil Nadu, with the remaining 10% spread across Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh. The story of Sivakasi's firecracker industry is fascinating. It began in the early 20th century, primarily as a cottage industry and has since grown into a major economic force. The town is now home to over 1,000 firecracker manufacturing units, employing thousands of people. This town boasts 30% of the production of the printing industry of India, along with 70% of the matchstick industry and 90% of firecrackers. However, despite its economic significance, the industry faces several challenges like environmental pollution, child labor, etc., which are pressing issues that need urgent attention. It's time for the industry to step up and take responsibility for its impact on society and the environment. Strolling through the serene wetlands of Navi Mumbai on Sunday mornings fills me with a sense of peace, taking away the stress of past week and preparing me for next. The first rain of season in Mumbai washes away summer's dust and drenches the city in a refreshing embrace that heralds the arrival of monsoon magic. Rains today morning made my usual Sunday walk extra pleasant. As I was wandering around a shallow lake full of flamingos accompanied by an array of other aquatic birds, each adding their own unique charm to this serene scene, I was thinking that the dynamic intersection of sea and land in wetlands forms a fertile ground for a vibrant ecosystem, where the rich variety of species find sanctuary. It is similar to the intersections of eras where the most fascinating opportunities emerge, where the blending of old and new ideas fosters #innovation and #growth. In last couple of centuries, we can identify some significant technology milestones that could be called as an intersection of two different eras. One era that was before this technology existed and other era after this new technology becomes omnipresent. Here’s the list of few such technologies: 1.      The steam Engine spurred the Industrial Revolution 2.      The electricity heralded a new era of modern living and industrial productivity 3.      The automobiles reshaped personal and commercial transportation 4.      The computer transformed the mechanical tasks to digital tasks 5.      The internet redefined communication, commerce, & access to information 6.      The smartphone fundamentally changed how people interacted The time when these new technologies were introduced, many people/organizations tried to find new uses of these and few of them emerged or gained prominence by leveraging new technologies in the most practical manners. We have examples like railroad companies, General electric, Ford, IBM, Microsoft, Google, Amazon, Apple and Samsung. While each one of these are a great organization, they may not have been the first or the only one with access to the new technology. These (and many more like these) could recognize that they were at the intersection of eras and found practical ways to implement the tech that gave them leverage in the new era. We are on another such intersection of era before AI and era when #AI is omnipresent. This for sure is going to create a vibrant environment where many new players would emerge but few will sustain. Many of us would try to implement these new techs to everything that we do, but the most practical ideas and most rigorous implementation would survive. Let us be aware that there soon going to be a new era when AI is everywhere. We have a short window to be an active participant in the change that is inevitable. In any case, we at least have an opportunity to wander in the wonderland of this changing landscape and witness another great transition with amazement. Buckle your seatbelts up and enjoy the ride!!

A Humbling Encounter with Neeraj Sharma, Director of the Lexicon Group Some meetings leave you inspired, and then there are meetings that redefine your perspective on leadership and success. Yesterday, I had the privilege of meeting Neeraj Sharma, the visionary Director of the Lexicon Group, a powerhouse behind brands like Citta Beauty, Multifit, Thinker Place, Rest My Case, and more. The agenda was to explore their franchise models for Multifit and Lexicon Schools with an eye on expanding in the Mumbai region. However, the biggest takeaway for me wasn’t about business—it was about humility and leadership. What truly stayed with me was a simple yet profound statement he made: "I am nothing. It’s my team that makes me successful." In a world where personal accolades often take center stage, hearing these words was both refreshing and humbling.
