Archana was brilliant in the team event. She even won the only set in the game where India didn’t win anything else and got off the competition. Multiple points to think about the early retirement: 1. Is the sports ecosystem in India enough rewarding for sportspersons to pursue it professionally for life? 2. Archana has spent years in the ecosystem. Has something changed for her to quit and move US for studies? 3. What does the government and federations need to do so that we don’t lose the talent? 4. With Ultimate Table Tennis and more such competitions, hasn’t the money flown into the system increased? 5. Are the players paid enough or exploited? This World Cup win is really special and more of being emotional. Not just for 1 person, but for many. Each has had his own story. To start with, it was the last WC (inc 50over) we were seeing for Rohit and Virat. Players of such high stature do need to end on a high, just like Sachin in 2011. After the heartbreak of Nov 19, 2023, a loss which was unexpected, this win was much needed. I have seen the clip 100 of times after the loss back then and when PM Modi consoled the guys in the dressing room, with Virat and Rohit having tears. It has really disturbed all Indian fans for last 7+ months. India has been the best team in all formats, Tests, ODI and T20, reaching finals of all in last 1 year. Just that they couldn't cross the final line. Think it for Bumrah. Just give him the Bharat Ratna 😍. He is India's national treasure. When you need 30 off 30, with best batsmen at crease, who would you turn to? God (for prayers) and Bumrah (for miracle). And it's not the first time he has delivered. Think of Hardik. I hate(d) him. But about what he has undergone since that captaincy transfer in IPL and then the divorce news, he has gathered himself to come back with the finest overs ever in a WC finals, under so much pressure. Think of SKY. He had a dismal day on Nov 19th and was the villain of that match. He got a redemption by taking one of the best catches ever under a pressure and crunch situation. Think of Pant. How he came back after a near-fatal accident, to win the WC for India and played a brilliant role. Think of Jaddu. Though he couldn't perform this entire WC, he has been one of the pillars of the team in ALL the formats. Yes, he might also be towards the fag end of his T20 career, but finally after 15 years of career, he has a trophy to his name. Think of Kuldeep. Bowled brilliantly in ODI WC. No complaints. And had a wonderful T20 WC. Bad finals, but it's okay. Axar. Had it been not for him with Virat, India might not be able to put up that total. And then his bowling of course. Coming back to Virat. Complete failure all the series. But I knew (and written 100s of times on whatsapp groups with friends) that he will play a significant role in the finals. A champion like him can't stay down for long. It is sad to see him retire from this format. Rohit. You beauty. Just seeing you cry on Nov 19, even after putting the team above everything, being so selfless, you deserved it. I don't know why but just wanted to see you smile once again after that day. Love you. AND FINALLY.... Think of RAHUL DRAVID. Arguably India's best ever alongwith Sachin, Sunny ji, Kapil, etc but never got a chance to hold a World Cup trophy. Was ridiculed in 2007, being the captain at WC 2007 in West Indies. What a way to redeem himself. Just like his entire career, he finally got what he deserved, though very late. A very fitting farewell to the WALL. Very happy today. Love you team India.

How Much Does a Cricket Fan Contribute to the Sports industry or country economy? It's Rs 4462 or 4% of their per capita GDP income. Let’s Crunch the Numbers with some approximate or even bit exaggerated numbers. 1) Streaming Subscriptions: Platforms like JioCinema and Disney+ Hotstar have a combined 50 million paid subscribers. Assuming all of them are cricket fans paying an annual subscription of ₹2,000/year, this alone generates ₹10,000 crore of cricketing revenue for these broadcasters. 2) Advertising Revenue: According to a GroupM report, broadcasters rake in ₹12,000 crore annually from ad spends during cricket events. 3) Match Tickets: As per BCCI’s annual report, ticket sales for cricket matches amount to ₹110 crore annually. 4) Merchandise Sales: Economic Times reports merchandise sales, such as cricket T-shirts, contribute an additional ₹200 crore annually. Adding it all up, the total comes to ₹22,310 crore—that’s USD 2.78 billion or ₹4,462 per fan per year! That's approx USD 56. A basketball fan in US spend around USD 444. Are you a cricket fan? Do you want to know how IPL teams make money? 🤔 IPL Teams get only 5-7 % revenue from broadcasting rights sale. 1. Broadcasting Rights In 2022, Star Sports paid 23,575 crores for TV rights, and Viacom18 paid 23,750 crores for digital rights - a total deal of 48,390 crores for a 5-year period. This money is distributed equally between BCCI and the franchises. 2. Sponsorships TATA paid 335 crores as the title sponsor for 2022-23. Also, each team has its own sponsors - jersey sponsors, radio partners, and more. These sponsorships contribute 100-200 crores which is around 20-30% of the teams' revenue. 3. Ticket Sales Then there are ticket sales - when fans come to the stadiums, 80% of that revenue goes to the home team. Some earnings also come from merchandise sales - jerseys, caps, etc. And finally, the winning team gets prize money of around 20 crores, with the runners-up earning ₹13 crore. Even teams finishing lower get ₹5-7 crore each 4. I don't support any particular political party but yesterday, in India, we saw the beauty of decentralised power through social media (YouTube, Instagram, FB, WhatsApp, etc.). For context, YouTube has ~500mn users in India VS ~900mn TV viewers in India. We witnessed that the biggest election in the world was swayed more by YouTube channels and Instagram handles than by powerful media houses that reach approx 900 million viewers through TV channels. So many people (including me) actually watched credible news reporting yesterday on YouTube live than on TV news channels. If you are sitting anywhere in the world thinking, how can 1 person or 1 small team change anything - yesterday was enough proof that you can. In today's day and age, you don't need fancy broadcasting, massive journalistic infrastructure and expensive resources to reach the general public. Even a simple YouTube video available on a free platform can do the magic. In fact, many social media experts are saying that the simpler your videos look today, the more relatable and "likeable" they are. And now Artificial Intelligence tools are going to disrupt the content market even more by decentralising the process of generating content. Pretty soon, you wouldn't even need to know "how to" create content. All you would need to know is 'What will people like to watch'. You can then ask AI models to just make it for you.
