The PPWs charged by freelance writers are strange and confusing. I reach out to around 10 new freelance writers every week to pitch a project. Yes, I pitch the project to them based on THEIR expertise. Their extensive experience and portfolio helps me in this regard - which is why I reach out to a particular writer for a particular project, rather than just taking any conversation ahead randomly. Now, the issue lies here. One freelance writer, with impeccable writing skills, says that her charges are 0.50 ppw. Okay. Got that. Another writer from the same genre says that she is not comfortable below Rs 0.75 ppw. Okay. Fair enough. Slightly higher than the previous one but in the same ball park. Then comes a third freelance writer, with comparatively the same amount of experience as the other two. She suddenly comes up with this insane pricing of Rs. 3 ppw. (Insane compared to the last two) So, now there are three writers, with similar experience, quality of work and expertise, each charging different prices. Which one out of the three is the industry standard then? What is the freelancer with Rs 3 ppw bringing to the table? What is the writer charging the lowest lacking in? Do remember that all three of them are good writers, no doubt about that. But such a huge gap between the PPWs really confuses the client as well. In my work as a Content Writer and Marketer, I have come to appreciate that, building a content strategy is one of the solids for any successful digital presence. Whether you are crafting blog posts or social media updates, or creating email newsletters, having a clear and actionable plan is crucial. The first thing that must be done is Understanding Your Audience. In any content strategy, it is important to deeply understand who your audience is. Who are they? What are their pain points? What content would most likely resonate with them? For me, I try to fit into the shoes of each member of my target audience (it's a lot of shoes, yes. But it helps me to gain a better perspective into what is most suitable for them, and what they would most likely respond to). This understanding will guide your tone, style, and the types of content you will create. It's not just about noting the demographics; it's about tapping into the emotional and intellectual needs of your readers/end users. Next, you must Set Clear Objectives. I know you love to write, and that writing is your passion, but except you're writing "just for the fun of it", you need to state clearly what the purpose of your content is. What do you want to achieve with your content? Are you looking to drive traffic, generate leads, or simply build brand awareness? Clear, measurable goals will keep your content focused and purposeful. Without a destination, even the best content can feel directionless. Next is Content Ideation and Planning. Once you know who you're talking to (Your Target Audience) and what you want to achieve (Purpose of Your Content), it's time to brainstorm on Content ideas. This is where your creativity as a writer shines forth. Think about the questions your audience might have, the problems they're trying to solve, and how your content can be the solution. A: Start lying, because let's be honest, no one is earning six figures, especially during the first year. And to those actually earning six figures, ask them when they got there and more importantly, how they got there. Get deceptive about vacations in tropical locations, workcations, staycations, sensations. Talk about that one client who encouraged open and honest communication while you successfully rewrote all internal communications in one day. Lie through your teeth about your financial status and hopefully, not get bankrupt by the end of the financial year.
