Bengaluru-based healthtech startup 4baseCare has successfully closed a $6 million Series A funding round, led by Yali Capital with contributions from various undisclosed investors. This new capital infusion will accelerate the company’s efforts in advancing genomics and digital health technologies and facilitate its entry into the Asian and Middle Eastern markets. The funds will be used to enhance product offerings and establish genomics laboratories in the Philippines, Nepal, and Dubai. These new labs will strengthen 4baseCare’s capabilities in delivering precision oncology solutions tailored to regional needs. Founded in 2018 by Hitesh Goswami and Kshitij Rishi, 4baseCare specializes in precision oncology, using cutting-edge genomics and digital health technology to personalize cancer treatments. The company previously raised $2 million in Pre-Series A funding to boost genomic testing in oncology. This latest funding round highlights the increasing investor interest in healthtech solutions for cancer care. Recently, biotech firm Immuneel Therapeutics raised $12 million from Taiba Middle East FZ LLC, while Icanheal secured INR 15 crore to provide tailored healthcare financing for cancer patients. According to the National Centre for Disease Informatics and Research (NCDIR), cancer incidence in India is alarmingly high, with one in nine individuals expected to be diagnosed in their lifetime. Kenko Health: From Skyrocketing Growth to Sudden Shutdown Kenko Health’s story was one many startups dream of—rapid growth, big-name investors, and a solution that promised to transform healthcare access. But in a flash, they’ve gone from a company with ₹85 crore in revenue to shutting down operations. What happened? Well, picture this: You’re climbing Everest. You’ve got a great climbing team, amazing resources, and you’ve trained hard. You have got a good chunk of international trainers who have been helping you get there and the local sherpas who are going to provide you with all the necessary equipment to reach the summit. The summit is in sight, but then the sherpas wants the climbing team to be mostly domestic leading to distress among the international trainers who have been helping you reach there. They can't turn their backs now and go back since they are equally invested in making the summit happen. Local Sherpas= Domestic regulator who gives out the coveted Insurance License (summit) International Trainers/ Team Members= Foreign Investors Kenko grew revenue 17x in one year, rising from ₹5 crore in FY22 to ₹85 crore in FY23. Impressive, right? Yet, despite their successes, they stumbled on a critical hurdle: securing an insurance license from the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority (IRDAI). We all saw the potential. With Lightrock, Peak XV Partners (Sequoia Capital), BEENEXT backing Kenko, the startup seemed destined for greatness. But behind the scenes, things weren’t as perfect. Kenko’s quasi-insurance model worked brilliantly at first, providing affordable subscription health plans. But when it came to the regulatory complexities of acquiring that golden insurance license, things fell apart. They had the customers, the revenue, and the drive, but when the insurance goal became unreachable, the air thinned out. They even had investors lined up for a $27m Series B round—money that would have given them the capital cushion to survive. But then, to receive the insurance license, there were problems. The regulator wanted domestic investors to lead the charge. This, of course, caused a massive restructuring headache. Suddenly, the founders were caught between a rock and a hard place—international VCs on one side, domestic regulatory requirements on the other. And then, the final nail in the coffin—Kenko ran out of money. Even though the founders personally infused ₹9cr to keep the ship afloat, it wasn’t enough. By early 2024, employees weren’t getting paid, debts were mounting, and Kenko’s shutdown was all but inevitable. But this isn’t just about Kenko. It’s a case study on how regulatory hurdles can undo even the most promising companies in the startup ecosystem. The story behind the startup Jivi AI : Jivi.ai is making healthcare accessible using AI. The company was founded in 2023 and is headquartered in Gurgaon. The company was founded by Ankur Jain Jain, the former Chief Product Officer of BharatPe Together with Sanjay G V Reddy Chairman of Reddy Ventures. Sanjay has his background in AI and Machine Learning. Within a few months, the startup introduced its initial model Jivi Medx, Beating OpenAI and Google on the LLM Leaderboard. Jivi.ai was started to develop an AI medical companion accessible to the entire global population, free of charge. Jivi.ai’s AI medical companion is designed to be more than just a chatbot. Sources have confirmed that Jivi.ai is all set for its public debut later this month. Acculi Labs Seed Round Closure:- Few Pointers and Answers to Question A. Are PAIO and The Current Round the Same/Different? i) PAIO-I, and PAIO-II(2021) were meant to do clinical trials and validate Lyfas Mobile Clinical Application, and build our diagnosis engine. ii) PAIO-III(Equity December 2022) round was raised to pioneer our home medicines and therapeutics. iii) A small angel round of 8L(2023 July) distributed over 10 months was raised from one of our PAIO investors for Genetic Integration in the Lyfas system, and for building a massive data ingestion system. iv) PAIO-4(Mar 2024) was raised to start unlocking the value potential of Lyfas and creating Lyfas Udyam. This is the current round, which is also building the PAIO-currency and PAIO-value economy for integrating small-scale entrepreneurial businesses into Lyfas Udyam. v) SABI HOLDING INDIA LIMITED and Acculi Labs Pvt Ltd have been working together in a Joint Venture(JV) for sustainable living, Organic Farming, Microbiome research, Medicinal Plants, Organic Fertilizer, and Urban farming over a 10Acre land(about ₹420 Cr net value) on the Delhi Jaipur highway since 2023. vi) A part of PAIO-4 money has also gone into the development of Lyra, the Lyfas conscious AI. vii) Therefore, PAIO is to experiment, research, gather data, and train Lyra and Lyfas systems, whereas JV is taking all the technology and processes to a a larger population, alongside integrating Agriculture into the project. viii)The seed round and all the other major investments are directed towards the purpose of JV and Lyra. JV, for the expansion, and Lyra, for eliminating humans from the decision. Therefore, the purpose of PAIO and JV Corpus are different, their accounting and auditing are different, and both will grow and walk simultaneously. B. Capital Structure i) Even though Acculi now has a diversified business and tech portfolio, each of the verticals and projects under the company already has individual finance, structure, flow, and integration endpoints. ii) Over a period of time, each of these entities will operate independently under independent management and also have independent valuation and trading. iii) Like Sabi, there will be other collaborators and partners over the period of time. iii) Acculi will remain to be a mother entity and holding company for the brands and businesses. Systems, processes, and macro-policies of the ecosystem would stay with Acculi. iv) Our PAIO investors will continue to hold a stake at the mother entity, as well as PAIO investment consultancy pvt. Sova Health, a pioneering startup in gut health, has secured $1 million in a seed funding round. This round was co-led by global early-stage venture capital firms Antler, Accelerating Asia Ventures (Singapore), Practical VC (USA), and VC Grid & Venture Catalysts (India). Additional investors include Quadrant Consumer Products and Midas Capital (Baheti Family Office), along with several prominent angel investors who remain undisclosed. The newly acquired funds will be allocated to product development, enhancing Sova Health's range of gut health solutions. The startup also plans to grow its team and expand its geographical market presence. Part of the investment will be directed towards launching a clinical trial for Sova Health’s Digital Therapeutics (DTx) program, reinforcing the company’s dedication to scientific research and product effectiveness.
