Budget 2024. Tax in India. (Salary of 2Cr INR in India vs $250K in US (exclude California)) I was talking to a Senior SDE in FAANG Bangalore. Abstracting out deep details. Here is the summary : 1. You pay a Tax of >35% if your salary is around 2Cr in India. Given all the surcharges. 2. 12% (6+6) EPF contribution. In India employer contribution is also included in your total salary calculation. 3. Indirect Tax (Don't want to go in details). In IT heavy states of US except California. 1. You pay around 28% tax (including Federal, Social Security, Medicare tax etc). 2. 401K pension scheme. Employer contribution(2%-6%) is not included in your TC. It's extra. 3. Except Rent and Food, rest most of things are of same price in India (or may be less like Laptop, iPhones, BMW, PS5 even with tax). 4. You can send 30-40 Lakhs to invest in India as remittance. (Patriotism). Now last, getting 2Cr Job in India is extremely tough in India, might possible only at Principle/Staff Engineer or few Senior SDEs. You need at least 10+ yrs of Solid Experience. Even if you join Google as fresher it will takes at least 7+ years to reach there (best case). However, $250K in US, is pretty average for 2-3 years of experience (especially for Indian Software Developer). Senior SDE can get around at least $300K. Principle SDE can get around at least $500K. *All above are for Software Developer profession only.

Senior developers can stay connected to the codebase, provide productive hands-on experience, maintain updated technical skills, and remain highly productive even without coding regularly. However, over time, not writing code or delivering key features can lead to a sense of moral high ground because they are not involved in meeting strict customer deadlines. On a personal note, I get little to no time to write code, but I ensure to contribute to at least one project per quarter, just for the love of it. It is one of the few job profiles that allows individual contributors to operate at such top levels. Making the most of it. Regardless, interesting read.

Zerodha's 1.5+ million PDF contract notes processing time was reduced from 8 hours to 25 minutes is truly impressive Nomad was used instead of Kubernetes as an orchestrator. Zerodha always impresses with their engineering work. Here is another story of how rearchitecting helped Zerodha improve its overall performance and reduce costs significantly, driving customer and product success I will keep the story very short and leave a link to read the entire blog. Zerodha had a challenge processing millions of contract notes that had to be sent to the customers after executing the stocks, and this had to be completed in a day; sometimes, it took 7 to 8 hours. The old stack ran on a large single vertically scaled server to complete the process, which was very time-consuming and inefficient. The new stack is horizontally scalable and elastic. Worker nodes are used to complete the job independently. AWS S3 stores and processes the files by each worker node across various stages. Redis stores the state of each job and is also used as a backend broker, distributing the jobs among the workers. Each job's execution is distributed across EC2 instances, which write to shared storage S3 Nomad is used as an orchestration framework, and, along with Terraform, it's used to provision the nomad cluster, where auto-scaling groups are leveraged, each handling different groups of servers for various jobs like generating pdf, sending emails, and signing PDFs. Nomad deploys job worker programs on the designated nodes. Posting a weird thing today. "If you don't have work, create a fake one". The attached picture is a jio fibre box outside my house. 9 slots, 11 connections. So at any given time, 2 connections may be disconnected. When a complaint is raised for disconnected connection, another working connection is removed and the former is fixed. Now another complaint is raised to fix the latter. This cycle is ongoing and field employees are busy fixing this complex problem. I asked the field employee why they removed random working connections to fix the prev one. His statement was that they only received complaints about said connection and don't want to touch others(irony). I see two possibilities here: 1. Either jio has given more connections than no of slots(not sure if that's possible) 2. They didn't remove the wire to the customer router when the customer stopped using their service. Two theories here, either jio likes their employees to create problems because there aren't enough genuine problems anymore Or employees are just lazy to map current active connections to correct slots.
