How do I find/source ideas for clients as a ghostwriter? Few obvious points: 1. I talk to them on a daily/weekly basis. 2. I actively follow relevant people in their industry. But one thing that most people miss out on: It takes hours and days of reading, consuming, and writing. To actually be able to source ideas for different clients in different industries. For example: I work with clients in fintech, marketing, B2B, HR etc. Totally different and unrelated topics. It's not that I could just follow a template or ask AI to give me ideas. (Though it helps, it isn't a replacement to creative ideas that actually are relevant.) The time and the effort is simply irreplaceable and cannot be templatized. tl;dr: If you're still falling for templates, you're ngmi.

Some times clients can be very indecisive and skittish about taking the next step, and so need a push! Giving an ultimatum in this case might be the best decision in order to close sales. Yet this is not fail proof as sometimes clients can get angry or pissed off about it and walk out of the deal. Having a reputable and reliable brand that delivers quality work and is dependable reduces those chances, and gives you an edge especially while taking the 'Ultimatum' route. Yet it is also a 50/50 chance as anything can happen in business. So it also important for you to decide wether taking that risk is worth it and how best to go about it ✍️. If you want your blog content to stand out, THEN it has to STAND OUT. You can do so by adding something new to the conversation! 👇 My favourite way to do this is by adding expert quotes to blog posts. Anyone can write a listicle post on the best beginner tips for new runners. It might be helpful, answer some burning questions, and provide value, but anyone can write that. And if anyone can write that, you won't stand out. Instead, use sites such as Qwoted and HARO to source expert quotes. Add a mix of quotes from elite marathon runners, qualified nutritionists, and other experts. Maybe even add a quote or two from beginner runners who've just entered their first road race. When you bring real people into the conversation, it makes the piece more human. And oh boy, do we need that right now! 🤖 Oh, and Google loves it when you source experts. You're providing helpful advice from authoritative experts to build trust. That's the E-A-T guidelines! 😎 P.S. Being boring is bad for business. The scary part is that every day more content gets lost in the boring bin than making it to the collection of attention-worthy resources. Let me share a personal experience to explain how dangerous of a situation you’re in if you’re publishing content of the same quality. 3 years ago, in mid-December, I woke up with the most disgusting pimple, right in the middle of my forehead. Since I had a wedding to attend later that night, I needed it gone ASAP! So, I Googled: “How to get rid of pimples in a day?” And what did I find? A sea of identical remedies written in the same straightforward, matter-of-fact way. But here’s the interesting part: While it gave me the quick fix I needed, once I had my solution, I was gone. Do I remember the website? No Was it a blog, a health site, or a makeup brand? No clue. If this is the type of content you’re posting, your brand is in serious trouble! Your audience will move on if you don’t give them a reason to stay. Now, let me share another experience. One day, while scrolling on LinkedIn I came across a post by a beauty guru. It was a snippet to a blog titled “Can pimples really vanish in a day?” Intrigued by the title I clicked on the link, and although I was in a rush that day, the first line had me hooked. "If you're looking for a way to get rid of that annoying pimple in a day, you won't find it here (or anywhere else, regardless of the promises you’ll find online). But if you want to make it almost unnoticeable, I have just the remedy for that!" Would you believe that I stayed until the end and even signed up for her newsletter? Why? Because she spoke directly to my urgency and desperation. Her directness, her authenticity, left a memorable impact on me. I remember her name, the visuals she shared, her remedy, and even her website theme! This is the difference between boring, repetitive content and unforgettable content that places you at the forefront of your audience’s minds. If you're looking for the latter, I can help you out! Many will tell their friends and acquaintances about their bad experiences working with you. This makes it harder to get new clients. A simple solution for this is to time everything you do. You can use online timers or project management tools to keep track of how long it takes to write an article, how much time to do the research, how much time you spend interacting with clients, how much time you spend looking for new clients, and every other task related to your writing business. This way, you can calculate how many clients you can handle on your own and hire people to help you when you take on more clients. If you need 10-20 highly-researched, long-form articles per month for your content marketing, you don't need one freelance writer - you need at least two. Research takes time, especially if it includes extensive product testing or reaching out to industry experts. Writing well takes time, especially when you want to make engaging content with a specific brand voice. Editing takes time, especially if you want to foster a collaborative editing process. And freelance writers have other things they need to attend to: managing and marketing their own business, working with other clients, and often doing other jobs on the side. The good news is that working with multiple freelancers brings more diverse voices to your team, both in terms of expertise and demographics - and that diversity can help your content marketing feel more robust and alive.

The 30% rule every freelance writer should follow, but few do... Most writers who get into freelance writing will encounter the dreaded feast and famine cycle. Everything seems fine, and then they lose a client or two and start panicking about how they will pay the bills. I went through this several times. At the beginning of my freelancing career, it was only a famine. I was terrible at client acquisition, and the drought continued for so long. Mild respite came from the occasional low-paying jobs I got from oDesk (now rebranded as Upwork). But gradually, after I built a portfolio, I graduated to a feast and famine cycle. And eventually, I reached a point where I avoided these cycles and got a steady stream of clients. The factor that brought about this change was that I started spending more time prospecting for clients. Writers who also want to avoid these cycles should spend a part of their day looking for new clients. You should divide your work day into three parts. Spend 30% of the day marketing your services, 20% of the day speaking to potential clients who respond to your marketing, and 50% of the day doing the writing work for clients. You should market your services with both outbound and inbound techniques. Some good outbound techniques are cold email and LinkedIn outreach. The inbound techniques you can try are blogging, posting on LinkedIn, guest posting, and speaking on podcasts. Another good one is building an email list. An email list will not just help you get clients, but it can also help you generate passive income as you can promote affiliate products or your own products. Dear Copywriter, I hate to break it to you but no matter how good your copy is, as long as it doesn't resonate with the target audience — it's not a good copy. So many copywriters fail to understand this, they tend to craft copy with big grammar here and there which will not drive sales but will drive your EGO! And If your EGO is more important than the sales, very good! But if your main goal is to drive sales make that sh*t easy to read! A 5th grader should be able to understand it! Copy is meant to drive sales but if you disagree with me then go be a f*cking POET. Honestly, I'm tired of seeing all this big grammar copy that ends up confusing the reader — instead of warming up your leads, you're confusing them, and then they run to the arms of your competition.🤦‍♂️ P.S. Pardon my tone today, I'm trying to help you guys improve but some people don't want to. Please if you want to show us how good your vocabulary is, write a POEM — I'll read it! That's all for now.
