I was exploring how SAP Activate project management methodology is being implemented for S/4 HANA and other implementation projects. It was an interesting concept and how Agile methodologies are integrated to SAP projects to implement the projects with low risks and faster turn around times. SAP Activate is aligned with global project management standards like PMI- PMBOK. The methodology consists of six phases, including Discover, Prepare, Explore, Realize, Deploy, and Run. There was one basic question raised by them on the roles and responsibilities of a CI consultant as this configuration touches multiple points like - CI iFlows & security materials, BTP cockpit, SCC, and on-prem system (S4H). Is the CI consultant responsible for the entire connections/config? If not, who would be part of the team? Who will do what? The pointers I shared – ✨ Depends on the project size and budget   ✨Your role in the project – developer, lead, or an architect ✨It’s always good to have an overall understanding of the connection touch-points, you can guide the team in case something is breaking (maybe you do not have access to SCC, BTP Cockpit, or S4H but still you can be a valuable asset for the team equipped with your knowledge) 💡 Some random TCodes come to mind which are required for on-prem scenarios. SAP Career - Knowledge is not Power, Knowledge is the DIFFERENCE As I always say and preach, knowledge is the only all-door opener. Gifted talent may take you to a certain general access area but its only grit coupled with expert knowledge which takes you to the summit. Of late, i have been looking at SAP aspirants profiles who lay a complete emphasis on collecting SAP certifications with no knowledge about the specified area. SAP Certifications look cool to get even with nagging relatives but they do not serve much purpose in the client facing environment of a SAP Implementation project. SAP projects demand deep expert understanding of a particular area within SAP where you can counter the client's perspective by your own rendition of a process. Certifications will never solve the client's business problems. In India, there is a mushrooming " SAP Globally Certified " fresher consultants base who have embarked on a completely directionless endeavour. The exams are passed by refering to the sample question sets. Such freshers are dangerously playing a "Russian Roulette" with themselves. These students become a easy magnet for the fly-by-the-night SAP training classes conducted in dingy classrooms outside railway stations. Some of the courses are priced at 50 USD - 1 % of the standard SAP training fees, its a different 1 % club. With Zero knowledge and a " Global Certification", the fresher profiles are a perfect cocktail of disaster and misadventure. SAP as a ecosystem is a established gold mine but you need to study where and how to start digging. SAP aspirants who want to enter SAP domain must invest time and money in getting properly trained in SAP. If you cannot add value by SAP experience, you have to compensate by being a SAP trained expert. The crux of the matter is that the companies will hire you for your SAP skills and not for your personal problems. SAP consultants are not treated professionally, but companies and clients keep complaining about dearth of good consultants and job switches of good ones. Dear managers You cannot mishandle people and claim their unavailability or lack of support, at the same time. Stop controlling and micromanaging SAP consultants. They can work peacefully only in an environment of trust and freedom. If you cross your limits, you will lose them. Don't carry the arrogance that you can find an easy replacement. Make no mistake in knowing that, a replacement is neither easy nor cost effective nor does it support your business continuity plans and efforts.
