Recently, his son competed in a state-level tournament, performing exceptionally well but losing in the quarterfinals. When I expressed concern about his son’s loss, my friend said something beautiful: “Win or loss doesn’t matter; what matters is the process.” This reminded me how often we get caught up in outcomes—whether in exams, careers, or fitness. The Bhagavad Gita teaches: "कर्मण्येवाधिकारस्ते मा फलेषु कदाचन। मा कर्मफलहेतुर्भूर्मा ते सङ्गोऽस्त्वकर्मणि॥ "कर्म पर ही तुम्हारा अधिकार है, कर्म के फलों में कभी नहीं... इसलिए कर्म को फल के लिए मत करो।" "You have authority only over your karm, never over its fruits... So do not do karm for its fruits." It’s the same with fitness. Many people start exercising with the sole goal of losing weight or gaining muscle. But if they only focus on the result, they lose patience. Those who enjoy each workout, however, feel stronger and more motivated every day—regardless of the end result. The same goes with life. Google has taken a turn in its long-standing battle with third-party cookies in Chrome. After years of preparation, the tech giant has decided to abandon its disingenuous "plans" to phase out these tracking tools. Initially set for completion by 2022, the timeline was first moved to 2023, then to 2024, and now indefinitely postponed to 2025 or never. First announced in 2020, Google's "intention" was to eliminate third-party cookies, cross-site tracking identifiers, and other tracking methods in favor of more privacy-conscious alternatives. This plan purportedly aimed to balance user privacy with the needs of online advertisers and publishers. The implementation faced numerous delays which were probably intentional. In January, Google began testing its new Tracking Protection feature in Chrome, which restricts sites from using third-party cookies for tracking users. This feature marked a milestone in Google's Privacy Sandbox initiative, supposedly aimed at enhancing online privacy. The full transition proved too distasteful for the industry's varied stakeholders. Rather than pushing forward, Google has chosen a different path. The company will now offer Chrome users the perception of making informed choices about third-party cookies. Users can pretend to adjust these settings anytime, providing a flexible approach to perceived privacy management. Google plans to introduce IP Protection in its fake, comedic Incognito mode next year. As Google continues to refine its Privacy Sandbox APIs, these new measures signify a commitment to improving the appearance of privacy concerns while lining the pockets of Google and its advertisers with more money. The world doesn't need super heroes. It certainly doesn't need #data heroes. I sigh when I hear others speak of heroism as the rally cry of the long awaited solve, all to be revealed. We've seen this movie trailer 🍿 before.. 🥷 The #dataverse world simply needs professionals to do their jobs as professionals. Passionate professionals with empathy who do not view their customers as requiring saving. This is not the age of the superhero. This is the era of the passionate professional with a warrior mentality. I love superheroes. For years I was Alan Moore's Miracleman. Bisette and Tottleben's Swamp Thing. Neal Adam's Daredevil. John Byrne's X-Men. Stan Lee's Spiderman. I can go on for an hour. I have 8 long boxes of comics in my prized comic collection that spans the 50s,60s,70s, and my jam, the 80s. I've been working in IT and Data since the early 90s - don't do the math please. And...wait. Do you hear that ringing? That's the 20th century calling.  I suggest you don't pick up the phone. If I hadn't "rescued" my summer school computer teacher of 1981 by taking the lead to help him teach and rewrite his woefull curriculum, I might never have convinced my parents to buy me that VIC20 and C64 without his letter and personal call making the case without me even asking.. As the saying goes, there's not enough room at the (Data) party for both Hero and Ninja. Unlike Japan's Samurai hero, the Ninjas came from all levels of society.  Your #dataninja - what's inside all of you, and the avatar I claimed for myself in March of 2020, is a personification and representation of mindset, behaviors, skills, and competencies of what today's generational Data Team must possess.  Do you know who the hero is? Our customers are the heroes. Not us folks. When we as leaders take on the role of hero and when we claim leadership has equivalency to heroism, we have lost the battle of scale in numbers. This is an individual contributor mindset.  If you read Karpan's Drama Triangle writings, you will know that this leads to disempowerment. The "victim" welcomes the help, but then stops growing.
