I recently got promoted to Senior Software Engineer at Intuit. Intuit is laying off 1,800 employees while planning to hire 1,800 new ones. It’s always sad to know when such a large MNC plans for mass lay-offs like this. It impacts so many lives we can never imagine. If you're affected or looking for new opportunities, I hope this helps. Here’s how to stand out and secure referrals in the most strategic way: 1️⃣ The resume should always be related to the job description. For eg. If JD mentions experience in Java or Spring, highlight your Java project in your resume first. 2️⃣ Never apply to a job directly when you need a referral. Just share the job ID link and once you get a referral, apply from the link received in the mail. 3️⃣ When reaching out for a referral, never just text - ‘Hi.’ Better to mention the reason in the first line of the message itself. Ensure you follow up within 2-3 days. 4️⃣ Share your resume in pdf format and the name format preferably should be Name_Role_Resume.pdf. 5️⃣ Getting referrals does not guarantee interviews. The best case is to ask for a referral from someone who is posting about an opening in their team. It has the max chance of starting the interview loop sooner. Is Amazon is running some kind of Scam or What? I have placed an order worth INR 199 from Amazon and it was same day delivery, but they are so unprofessional that the delivery partner marked the Order as Delivered and handed over to resident, which I haven’t received. I raised a complaint regarding that, and i was told to wait for another 24 hrs and your order will get delivered, despite of there best effort , it didn’t happend, and again i raised a complaint, i was given a option for either refund/replacement, i choose replacement. The anazing part, 2nd time in a row, order was not deliver and marked as delivered by their brilliant delivery partner. I have raised this issue with customer care, let’s see what happened, i was insured that the action will be taken againg the culprits, and i may get the delivery in next 24 hours. Every Order, inspite of the amout, should have OTP based delivery, to insure that the customer has received the order. It not just about the money, indeed it is about the much needed product and also the harassment the customer has to go through and can also cause goodwill and bad reputation for the reputed brand like Amazon. I really don't understand long notice periods. Companies ask even the freshers to serve 3 months notice periods. This is just one more trick to try and hold talented folks at less pay. Extending offer at 3 months notice period is too risky for any company and candidates will try and contest the offer before the joining date. Most likely these candidates will not join. The hyprocisy is these same companies ask for immediate joiners during hiring period. But there is a bright light here, if you do manage to get a notice period from other such companies at some reasonable amount then you can plan your 3 months in a way that helps you catapult your career in the right direction and fixes this issue once and for all. Here is my unpopular opinion (ekdum personal opinion) This is the total cost for an EARLY BIRD TICKET for an upcoming React event. ( 🤔 They charge 3.5% as a processing fee even for UPI transactions 🤔 ) My advice to a younger self (who would for sure be in a FOMO state right now with this fancy tech thing after learning that many of the people in the react community are attending it) would be if you're serious about your career, take a course on Frontend masters or udemy or utilize your money and time doing better things like writing articles, building projects, etc. If you are sceptical and tight on budget and have better plans for your leave, then let me summarise my experience of all the meetups I've ever been to which might help you in making a decision: In terms of tech: The speaker's time to explain the topic is insufficient for you to fully understand anything. So you'll end up making notes hoping you'll learn about it in your free time. This you can anyways do by watching YouTube or other from other places. In terms of Networking: I've met a few people with whom I connected on LinkedIn...but after coming home I don't even remember their names and I've never had any communication with them after that. Okay, you'll argue 10K is worth for your career, music concert costs even more, movies, food, etc, etc. But aren't there better things you could do with this 10k (and 2 days) for your career? For me, it's not worth even putting this ticket price for reimbursement 😺 (idk for some reason it was worth spending almost an hour writing this post) From personal experience, I can tell you that people don't lose their jobs or become less cool when they don't attend these events.

Few people join as a SDE-1 and within a span of ~7 years, they promote to a very senior level(L6 equivalent to Staff Role) in a company whereas same achievement is hard to realize when you're switching companies. So, what makes these employees so special? A few points: - They joined these companies as SDE-1 - Implemented projects end to end - very pro-active in all things: reviews/discussions/coding. - highly biased for taking actions (critical skillset for growth) - were lucky enough to some extent in getting good projects - were hard working enough to find optimizations & propose as new projects in the product - filled with lots of motivation & drive: showing true ownership at the deepest level one could possibly imagine Staying in a company helps you build context over the years, which the lateral hires within few months might or might not be able to grasp. This post is just a reminder: Switching would probably make money but staying in a company with a little bit of luck can do wonders(both money & role). PS: I did 2 switches in my career and I can relate with this post.

Amazon your delivery partners are doing fraud. after picking up the return.. return status is not getting updated. after 5 days no sign of return status update or refund. every time i am reaching out to customer service.. they promise that issue has been escalated. on same day(21st May)..but for reaching them next time for status update, they share that no such issue was escalated. reference orderId for return : 402-2188734-0486767 same delivery partner delivered another product, which was marked delivered correctly at same time. delivered orderId: 402-4660022-2936339 ticket number raised again: P131577388 SLA promised by Mr. Abhishek (customer service leader): 3-5 business days. how many days do you need to update the status and get this confirmed by delivery partner ? Update: Event this ticket Id (P131577388) does not exist in internal system, confirmed by another customer support.

So last year, in August, Zomato, for the first time, began charging a platform fee of Rs. 2 per order. Then, just in the new year, they again raised their charge to Rs. 4 per order in key markets around to make more profit out of that. Then, in April, it increased the fee by 25% to Rs.5 per order. Last month, the fee went up again to Rs. per order. So, Zomato has raised its platform fee three times this year, going from Rs. 2 per order to Rs. 6. Even with these changes, the number of Zomato's monthly customers has stayed about the same. For example, the average number of monthly customers was 17.5 million in Q1 FY24, 18.4 million in Q2, 18.8 million in Q3, 19 million in Q4, and 20.3 million in Q1 FY25. In the 2023–24 financial year, the platform fee was one of the top three things that helped increase Zomato's revenue. The other two were money made from operations and customer delivery charges. Earlier, I talked about Uber using LedgerStore to store all the financial transactions leading to ~2 trillion indexes! 🔥😯 Check my previous posts to understand why they use hot/cold storage design to store their ever increasing ledgers. (Link in the comment) 👇 One of the first solutions they tried out was using DynamoDB. Let's understand one fact when it comes to time series data like ledgers - they exhibit a strong correlation with the current wall clock time. This can lead to clustering of write operations around a specific time range. 🕓 If we considered partitioning of data based on some time granularity, it can overload a single partition in DynamoDB, creating a "hot partition" scenario. 🔥 Hot partition leads to: 👉 Write Throttling: DynamoDB enforces throughput limits per partition. When a partition gets overloaded, write requests are throttled, causing delays and potential data loss. 👉 Performance Degradation: The overall performance of your application can suffer due to increased latency and reduced throughput. One possible solution which instantly comes to mind - Why don't we make the time granularity of a partition finer to avoid hot partitions? What does this mean? - Earlier each partition corresponded to data belonging to a time chunk of 1 minute. Let's make it finer to be 1 second. This would reduce entries per partition. 🔻 But... What if there is an increase in the traffic over time? It can lead to instability. Another side effect of this is performance degradation during the reads. One needs to perform reads via a scatter-gather which means send read requests to different partitions and perform aggregation on top of those results. Larger the number of partitions, worse would be the efficiency of this operation. 📉 Stay tuned to see how Uber solved this issue of hot partition in my next post. 😉

In my personal experience over the last six years, working as SDE in a startup, at an established company, and a sillicon valley giant, and then running my startup, I found that engineers who are extremely good at writing optimized code and solving DSA problems are better at implementing the real stuff too and are overall better SW Engineers. This is compared to those who are just good at specific stacks like React / MERN or Django, or those who use jargon and draw diagrams in system design interviews. There is a reason why big tech companies in Silicon Valley still ask about DSA even for senior positions.

And whenever their profile show up in any way (in form of post, repost), we will highlight the page with saying "please unfollow and remove connection" from this user as they have been polluting/misleading the users with a link to the repo and facts.
