FSSAI directs beverage companies to remove “100% fruit juice” claim from labels and ads Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has ordered beverage companies to remove claims of “100 per cent fruit juice” from labels as well as advertisements of reconstituted fruit juice products from immediate effect. Fruit concentrates and water are used to make reconstituted fruit juices. It has also directed food business operators (FBOs) to exhaust all existing pre-printed packaging materials before September 1. The food safety authority noted that the regulations have no provisions allowing companies to make a “100 per cent fruit juice” claim and hence are misleading. FSSAI added that FBOs must comply with the standards for fruit juices as specified in the Food Safety and Standards (Food Products Standards & Food Additives) Regulation, 2011. Current tea prices are not compensating the producers for the crop loss, which is largely due to erratic weather conditions and the increased compliance with FSSAI pesticide regulations. I also understand that buyers increasing their purchase prices will not happen overnight. They need to adjust their retail prices, re-orient their product positioning, and see tangible changes on the ground regarding supply and FSSAI compliance. This process ( especially increasing retail prices) may require time but is inevitable for the survival of the tea industry. Meanwhile, the cost of non-vegetarian thali was down 7% from last year, as broilers rate..... We are seeing this trend in India over last few months that Vegetarian Thali is becoming more expensive than Non Vegetarian Thali in some parts of the country . Surely a whole range of factors account for this but the simplest one being growing consumption and less availability . Consumption in India will keep on increasing and we will slowly see our domestic market consuming more and exports slowing down in few items as we become Non competitive internationally . A few years ago India had a huge export of Sheep and Goat which has substantially reduced because of increasing demand and prices locally whereas Internationally products from Australia , NZ and East African countries become more cheaper and competitive .
