Authority is a vague term... like a shadow... even a Midget can create larger shadow by staying closer to sources of power... Being assertive... according to my experience is a competency trait... coming from 3 sources : 1. expertise / experience : where knowledge is the core. it gives strength to being assertive... from dealing with situations... people... where knowledge provides a better understanding to handle the issue... 2. Behavior... where a combo of IQ & EQ work out... 3. Body Language... where person is the core... how body manifests the level of assertiveness... certain techniques help people being more assertive & can be mastered... most powerful conversations happen with mouth shut & body language doing the talking..

Your team is divided on a project approach. How can you bridge the gap and find common ground?
I always look at co-creation and a healthy competition... for any project plan, i normally ask my team members to create two or more options... and i always make sure that within the teams there are sub groups who create the plan... once ready we all sit down and each of the small groups present their plan... after these presentation... i also look at incorporating the good points from other plans... lastly once done, i also explain them why one plan is better and how we can pick up learnings from other plans to strengthen the final plan of action... this approach has helped me in aligning my team members to one common goal and lot of times it has helped me create ownership of any project plan.

Here's how you can communicate clearly and prevent misunderstandings as an HR Consultant.
Root cause of misunderstanding is either communication or too much of an expectation... while every candidate considers themselves as the best... one needs to carefully study the role description as well as role requirements... I believe the HR consultants always want to pitch in the best candidate... hence one needs to start building a amicable and respectful relationship with the Consultant... clearly communicate that you are grateful for their help & support... and best way is to tell tham... whatever is the outcome... you will always be in touch and positive towards the consultant... worst behaviors : too much follow-ups, being immature, pushing your case too hard and trying undue influence with the parent organization...
