The journey of an impact entrepreneur can often be a lonely one. It requires very different mindset from that of a for-profit business or non-profit organisation. Facing challenges on a daily basis while striving for scale and continuously making impact-first decisions is not easy. How many funders truly understand and stand by impact entrepreneurs as they persistently pursue their vision and strive to create significant impact? I believe Next Bharat Ventures will continue to shed light on true impact entrepreneurs.

From working with Ranbir Kapoor as an assistant director to starting a small casting agency to now working with major platforms like Netflix and Amazon for the casting of popular shows like Class, Call me BAE, I interviewed Panchami Ghavri for our podcast at Radically Yours on how she became one of India’s biggest female casting directors In my conversation with Panchami, we spoke about, ✅ 1. How casting directors make upto Rs 20-25 lakh for a film project ✅ 2. How she stays ahead of the curve by watching at least 100 hours of content monthly and attending major film festivals annually to scout for new talent ✅ 3. How does she work with major OTT players and how these platforms are responsible for the actor’s fee along with her fee of finding the actors ✅ 4. Possibility of AI playing a role in initial screening of auditions in the next 5 years. ✅ 5. Why she is casting popular influencers, content creators for Bollywood projects. We also discussed about why casting couch exists till today, how is OTT rising up more than main screen theatre films & more. Feeling both determined and reflective as I read the latest report on Delhi's water bodies. It’s alarming to see that nearly half of them have vanished—either lost to time or encroachment. This isn’t just a statistic; it’s a significant blow to our #environment and the heritage of our communities. We’ve been working hard to bring attention to these neglected water bodies. Many of these “missing” ponds and village johads are more than just water sources—they are a part of our cultural #history My team and I have been particularly focused on reviving a local water body in Budhela village, which has been under threat from encroachment for years. Despite multiple efforts, we’ve seen little progress, which led us to file a #Writ #petition in the #DelhiHighCourt earlier this year. "Interestingly Delhi Government has filed a false affidavit in the Delhi High Court stating that this #land is not a village pond Since 1990. Contrary to the village revenue records that clearly show how this land along with many other lands are G.M Johar (Pond as per administrative language)" What's more interesting is that we have filed evidence; copy of Question & Answer from the Parliamentary Affairs on 26-11-2001 by an Member of Parliament in response to which the #Delhi #Development #Authority had admitted that this land is village pond and we will soon resolve the village grievance" And next year they sold the village common land to Delhi government to construct building" Luckily for 23 years, nothing materialized and early this year when GNCTD gave approval for construction, we began our journey to seek #justice in #court after 5 years of efforts of requests, follow-ups and grievance with Delhi Government to stop construction on pond land and revive the natural Waterbury for the benefit of villagers and local ecological environment. This battle isn’t just about saving one pond; it’s about setting a precedent for how we treat our natural resources. It’s heartening to see that public participation is now being explored as part of the solution. Protecting what’s left is only the first step. True success will come when we start restoring what we’ve lost. Let’s keep pushing forward, Delhi. Our water bodies need us. Arvind Kejriwal Atishi . "What are your goals for GreenMic.India this year?" I was asked in a meeting for a prospective collaboration. My answer was, - It's to impact 1 lakh people with interactive projects that enable them to understand climate action and encourage them to do there bit. - To bring forth atleast 10 projects that have a social and environmental positive influence - To build meaningful collaborations as we believe when working in the climate sector there is no competition but only collaboration - To showcase caring for the environment and people need not be charity only and can be a great career choice Well, there is always a pause when I share this as they wait for me to share numbers in terms of money. GreenMic.India does have financial goals and we do have targets to meet, but our larger goal is always creating a positive impact and enabling Climate action that is meaningful and long term. Well, then why don't I talk about them when talking of goals? Although working for the people and planet is profitable, our businesses are not like others and it's important for us in the social sector to change that narrative. We also need to showcase the value of, - Having a slow life and lifestyle - Readjusting and focusing goals to ensure planet and people at the core - Reinventing the narrative of conscious businesses and how we talk about them - Knowing the problems we are trying to solve are wicked and have soo many layers that we will discover only as we move forward - There is always more we can do - Working on self- development and nurturing our conscious time and again - Remember you can be replaced with a better person and better tech and hoping that would happen so there is more that can be done for the planet and people - Not giving into the hustle culture and taking a breather now and then In the world of numbers that mostly talk about money, talking less about it to showcase the intent and goals we shake perspectives and enable conversations thats focusses on 'What are you doing and why are you doing it, than how much are you making?' Money is vital for us to live a life, but intent and purpose is vital for us to live good and contended life. P.S: I recognise the privilege I come from to able to think and talk like this. But I also come from an experience of struggle and trauma(both from not having enough money to not having a purpose) Image: In the midst of work calls and being there for a family member during their wedding preps, I got to witness a sunset like no otherat Mysuru. #ecopreneur #ecobusiness #climatecareers

'India to date has therefore been viewed more as a soft power and cultural partner by most Southeast Asian nations, not a strategic partner. As India becomes bolder and more proactive in its foreign policy ... it needs to move beyond these existing areas of cooperation and signal more clearly the underlying objectives and aspirations behind the Act East policy, and what kind of partnership India seeks to achieve in Southeast Asia. 'All of this represents a clear shift, attributable to the fact that the Act East policy now drives India’s Indo-Pacific vision. The developments send a message that India is ready to embark on a strategic and defence partnership not just with the Philippines but perhaps, over time, with other Southeast Asian nations as well, reflecting India’s growing ambitions as a global power and the leading voice of the Global South. 'A one-size-fits-all approach does not work in Southeast Asia, as this region is very diverse, especially in its foreign policy orientation and perceptions'. https://lnkd.in/gSsAE-BE

🌱 Proud to share our impactful work! 💼 As we gear up for the upcoming elections in #India it's crucial to address the pressing needs of the citizens. Despite promises made, many villages in #Delhi still lack basic infrastructure and facilities. The flagship schemes of the Prime Minister aren't implemented. Our team is committed to bridging this gap and advocating for tangible change. 🏗️ Through our initiatives, we've been working tirelessly to improve the quality of life in #village areas. From advocating for better roads and #sanitation to pushing for essential services like hospitals and colleges, we are dedicated to uplift the villages in the national capital that are ignored by the #city planners & the administration. 🤝 Collaboration is key in driving meaningful progress. We've engaged with local stakeholders, the villagers to understand their needs and advocate to ensure implementation of sustainable solutions. Together, we're building stronger, more vibrant villages that everyone can be proud of and the youth don't feel embarrassed or hateful about their own roots. 🗳️ As we approach the polls, let's remember the importance of prioritizing local development. Every voice matters, and every vote counts. Together, let's continue to strive for a better, more inclusive future for all. #VillageDevelopment #CommunityEmpowerment #Elections2024 #India #Indians #government #urban #city #rural #village #natives https://lnkd.in/ggmvQeBz

The lack of regulatory clarity in the online gaming ecosystem is creating challenges across the entire lifecycle of platform development. Payment gateways and app stores are tightening restrictions to safeguard against business risks due to no regulation + state-specific compliance requirements, together stifling investments and growth. Meanwhile, illegal and shadow markets continue to grow unchecked, bringing with them cybersecurity threats and consumer risks. Legitimate platforms are caught in the crossfire, struggling to navigate this uncertain landscape. Addressing this requires a clear distinction between online gaming and gambling. Kazim Rizvi explains the importance of institutionalising statistical testing for effective differentiation between games of skill & chance and setting an industry standard to resolve regulatory ambiguities in this article. This is a conversation that cannot wait. What are your thoughts?

Delhi's summers have always been challenging, but this year's heat is extreme. Stepping outside for even a short walk feels unbearable, with temperatures hitting 41 degrees at 10 pm and relentless heat all day long. ACs are struggling to cope, tap water feels like it's boiling, and there's no relief in sight. For those of us fortunate to have AC, it's tough; now, think of the city's poor who endure these conditions while living and working outdoors. #Heatwave #ExtremeHeat #India #Asia #GreenDisability #SDGs #Forests #Delhi #ClimateChange #ClimateCrisis

In recent times, we've witnessed a distressing increase in rape cases across India. This grim reality is not just a matter of isolated incidents but reflects a deeper, systemic issue rooted in cultural attitudes and behaviors. A troubling trend I’ve observed is the normalization of degrading comments and jokes about women’s bodies at common gatherings, parties, standups, social events. It's disheartening to see such behavior being casually accepted or even applauded by some. The laughter and acceptance of these vile jokes are not just about humor but speak volumes about the normalization of misogyny. This needs to stop. 🤚 Women must be empowered to stand up against this toxic culture. It's time to say NO to any form of entertainment that disrespects and objectifies women. Why are we, as a society, accepting and perpetuating such demeaning behavior? When we laugh at or tolerate these jokes, we contribute to a cultural problem that undermines respect and reinforces harmful stereotypes. It’s essential for everyone—regardless of gender—to challenge and reject such behavior. Let's take a stand for a respectful and inclusive culture. Together, we can shift the narrative and create a society where everyone is treated with dignity and respect. 🚀 #RespectWomen #CulturalChange #StandUp #NoMore #rape

🚨 Op-Ed Alert: Understanding the Ladki Bahin Yojana and Changing Caste Dynamics in Maharashtra's Political Landscape 🗳️ In my latest op-ed, I delve into the evolving political landscape in Maharashtra, particularly how schemes like the Ladki Bahin Yojana influence caste inclinations ahead of the upcoming assembly elections. Key Points: ✅ How welfare schemes impact voter behaviour and the socio-political alignment of marginalized communities. ✅ The shifting role of caste in electoral decision-making. ✅ Predictions on how these dynamics could shape the next government in Maharashtra. This is a critical time for Maharashtra's political landscape, and understanding the changing caste equations is key to making sense of the broader electoral narrative. The 2024 Maharashtra Assembly elections demonstrated how strategic coalition-building and hyper-localized campaigns can reshape political landscapes. The Mahayuti (BJP, Shinde-led Shiv Sena, and Ajit Pawar’s NCP) leveraged a dual narrative of welfare populism and stability. Welfare programs like "Mukhyamantri Majhi Ladki Bahin Yojana" directly appealed to women voters, while a cohesive Hindutva identity transcended caste divisions, particularly in rural and semi-urban areas. The opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) faltered due to internal discord and a fragmented voter base. Uddhav Thackeray's Shiv Sena (UBT) struggled to reclaim Hindutva supporters alienated by Eknath Shinde's rebellion, while the Congress and NCP faced leadership and trust deficits. Ajit Pawar’s defection further weakened the opposition’s organizational capacity. The BJP’s narrative of governance continuity, spearheaded by Devendra Fadnavis and Eknath Shinde, resonated with urban voters, while rural outreach balanced caste and economic concerns. However, challenges loom for the Mahayuti, including fiscal constraints in delivering welfare promises and potential intra-coalition tensions. This election reinforced that the electorate prioritizes tangible benefits, stability, and inclusive coalitions. For the MVA, rebuilding grassroots trust and a unified narrative is crucial for future contests, offering vital lessons for India's evolving political dynamics. #MaharashtraAssemblyElectionAnalysis

IITs, NITs, AIIMS, IIMs, NLUs but where are we lagging? "Despite being the Mother of Democracy and the World’s Largest Democratic Republic, we have failed to establish a globally recognized public policy school" Hi, I came across an insightful article by Ruchi Gupta on the pressing need for a world-class public policy institution in India. Her points resonate deeply—despite being the world’s largest democracy, India lacks a premier institution dedicated to public policy. While we have IITs, NITs, IIMs, AIIMS, and top-tier arts and commerce schools, we still haven’t established a globally recognized public policy school. This gap means that the field of public policy is largely influenced by (read as: "not so honest") bureaucrats and (read as: "not much educated") leaders, which not only consolidates power within the legislature and executive but also affects our governance quality and global standing. It’s high time we invest in nurturing top-tier policy experts to truly reflect India's democratic ideals and strengthen our institutions. Very well-articulated, Ruchi! Hoping to see steps taken in this direction soon! https://lnkd.in/gwBKb69x

Attending to and investing in connectivity is not always the sexiest thing for funders and other would be supporters of social change efforts. It does not often address the sense of urgency, call to action, and drive for “proof of impact.” That said, not stopping to understand and appreciate a community’s dynamic organic matter – relationships, network patterns and resource flows (often a source of great strength in resilient communities facing daunting circumstances) – can lead to irresponsible and damaging interventions. The invitation then is to slow down, take a closer look, observe what is already happening to support resilience, adaptation, innovation and regeneration. The best course of “action” is generally to respect and work with this. https://lnkd.in/eWXsWkT

As regards Exit polls and analysis, these are never final and often differ from the actual election results. These polls provide estimates based on surveys conducted with voters as they leave polling stations & the Politcal Scenario. They capture voter preferences but may not always accurately predict the final outcome due to sampling errors, biases, or changes in voter behavior. Despite these limitations, the estimates can offer insights into potential trends and outcomes. Accordingly, the 2024 election results are likely to look like this .NDA : Around 300 Seats with 10-20 variation .INDIA Bloc: Around 200 seats with 10-20 variation .Others: : Around 43 seats with 5-10 variation These figures reflect current projections but should be taken with caution, as the final results can vary based on actual vote counts and unforeseen factors influencing voter behavior.
