Swiggy’s shares bucked weakness in the broader Indian market and recorded a better performance than some analysts had predicted for the loss-making firm after its $1.4 billion IPO - the country’s second biggest this year. The stock (SWIG.NS), listed at 420 rupees ($4.98) on India’s National Stock Exchange and rose to a high of 448 rupees, giving the company a valuation of nearly $12 billion. Swiggy and its main rival Zomato are riding a wave of new shoppers in India by offering so-called “quick commerce” grocery deliveries within 10 minutes, diversifying from their main food delivery businesses. When the El Patrón at Zomato floated a role for a Chief of Staff (one of my favourite roles to hire for btw) requirement this week, with a prerequisite where the selected incumbent would have to shell out a hefty ₹20 lac fee whilst getting no salary - he inadvertently joined the growing list of CEO/Founders that have begun the abuse of Indian talent. The Ekta Kapoor serial style mother in law that pushes her daughter in law off the top of the staircase. The cartel that believes in what can only be termed as abuse & something they themselves would never accept in their heyday like unpaid internships, 70+ hour work weeks, rampant hiring & even more prolific layoffs even in profitable companies (which Zoho Chief Sridhar Vembu recently also spoke out against) etc. I'm very confident he felt this would've been a 'once in a lifetime learning opportunity' for the candidate applying for the role & 'Why should people not be paying Zomato for a chance to work there? Cmon, no one has bills or responsibilities to take care of in this already twisted post covid world. We're working as a hobby not as a means to build a life . :) And what a genius way to advertise, saying 'We're making this job unattractive for most people' positioning it as a premium learning opportunity instead of a traditional Executive role. We've always loved others using reverse psychology on us, right? Anything that will make us stand apart. Even if that means investing 20 lacs & losing a year's salary at that position (a great Chief of Staff for a company like Zomato would command anywhere in the range of 35 lacs to 70 lacs p.a depending upon institute/ Academics/ relevant years of experience/ companies worked with) Now, I am incensed, yes. I've always been an advocate of, "Pay talent a little more than they expect, & they'll do A LOT MORE back for your company." and I've been silently observing all the BS these so called leaders are foisting on India's talent that is already, 'Underpaid & Overworked.' Please stop. You're making talent drains happen from India to other countries. And this talent migration is only beginning. #Zomato #Tomato #JustStop

Just got back from TechHR by People Matters in Delhi, and my head's still spinning! As a Partnerships lead at 1% Club, I went in hoping to get a pulse on the HR tech scene - and boy, did I get more than I bargained for. Key takeaways: 1. AI is revolutionizing HR, big time! 🤖 The tech they're developing for recruitment and employee engagement is next level. Got my wheels turning about potential partnerships in this space - imagine what we could do with 1% Club's network and some of these AI tools! 2. Keynotes that actually kept me awake (shocking, I know) Aman Gupta from Shark Tank fame shared some gold on building resilient teams. And Dr Velumani Arokiaswamy insights on scaling culture? Definitely applying some of those ideas to our organization as well. 3. Networking goldmine 🤝 Met so many innovative startups and established players in the HR tech space. The conversations during breaks were almost as valuable as the sessions themselves. Came away with a pocket full of business cards and a list of follow-up calls to make. This event really opened my eyes to the potential in the HR tech market.
