From humble beginnings, JEEViKA now supports more than 10 lakh Self-Help Groups (SHGs) across Bihar, bringing millions of rural women under its fold. These SHGs have become pillars of socio-economic development, offering women access to financial resources, skill development, and entrepreneurship opportunities. Through initiatives like microfinance, health interventions, and livelihood promotion, JEEViKA has helped women break free from the cycle of poverty and dependence. JEEViKA’s journey is a testament to the power of collective action. By integrating women into income-generating activities such as agriculture, livestock rearing, handicrafts, and small-scale industries, it has not only increased household incomes but also diversified the rural economy. Its efforts have led to women managing enterprises, accessing markets, and participating in government programs, thereby creating a ripple effect of development. The success of JEEViKA lies in its community-based approach, which empowers women to lead their own development. The program’s achievements are not just numbers but stories of transformation—women gaining confidence, leadership skills, and a voice in decision-making processes.

Our small land-holding farmers from Uttar Pradesh and Bihar need low-budget innovation, mentorship, government policy support, and input from a young, progressive workforce to change the agribusiness landscape in the region. This region would contribute equally to the #ViksitBharat goal if they had more money and other resources. Please join this very important discussion which affects the future of Mumbai in so many ways-- air pollution and health, time wasted in traffic and stress, fuel consumption and costs, and trees cut and environment destroyed for more roads...and more traffic jams. The ONLY way to decongest Mumbai and create more freedom for all citizens is vastly improve public transportation: - Metro rail is important but not enough (for last mile connectivity)--and its expensive - More roads are unnecessary and wasteful. Esp large road projects like the Coastal Road and fancy tunnels being planned. At worst they can be dangerous in an era of unpredictable climate changes. So...probably 15.000 - 18,000 buses, 100% Air-Conditioned fleet (v. imp), on the roads of Mumbai will do the job--enough people will switch away from Ola / Uber / rickshaw and even private vehicles, which will decongest the roads significantly. And it will be (relatively) cheap--for government and users!! Convenient, Comfortable and Affordable Buses. But done in an intelligent way and managed properly. Additional efforts like: better road rules (70% streets should be one-way), better parking rules (seems everywhere is No Parking!!) better quality roads (can even God deliver this to Mumbai??--or maybe is Adani took over the Roads dept of BMC??) and more driver education with better police monitoring, can together improve traffic substantially. At very low costs. But it all starts with getting engaged. Despite strong policies, #StreetVendors in India are facing climate change and inconsistent policy enforcement, which is threatening their #Livelihoods. The harsh truth is that vendors across urban India are still fighting for their basic right to exist. Experts note how street vendors are often viewed as convenient scapegoats for urban problems, from traffic congestion to antisocial behaviour. It's been a decade since the Street Vendors (Protection of Livelihood and Regulation of Street Vending) Act of 2014 was enacted, recognising and protecting street vendors' rights on footpaths. However, the reality is that besides battling #Heatwaves, #Coldwaves, and #Floods, vendors continue to fight unforeseen evictions. The Saga of the Plasticasura This post is my tribute to Baeru Collective: Community-led Climate Action. Every conversation with Divya Hegde has left me reflecting deeply, even when it feels like a lighthearted chat. One such conversation led to this post. As we approach festive occasions, having been waste-touched, I’ve become increasingly aware of the waste that sneaks in amid all the shiny celebrations. Instead of being mesmerized by the shimmer in the decorations around (which I used to be), I now see the "Glittering Plasticasura" (a term brilliantly coined by Baeru Collective: Community-led Climate Action in their Art for Waste interventions) and the Asurathvam within us that fuels its power. This festive season, as we reflect on Mahishasura, let’s add a playful twist by encouraging ourselves to reflect on Plasticasura as well. Consider how our choices might be fueling its growth—whether we’re aware of it or not. Asura, in Sanskrit, essentially means demon. Breaking down the word: “A-” (अ) can mean “without” or “against.” “Sura” (सुर) refers to “deity” or “god” in a positive sense. Thus, Asura can be interpreted as “one who is against the gods” or “one devoid of divine qualities.” Asurathvam (the state or quality of being an Asura) metaphorically represents negative traits such as greed, ignorance, or indulgence—qualities that oppose moral or ethical values. In my quest to reduce the impact of Plasticasura in our lives, I’ve come up with an ease to understand Plastic Continuum. On the X-axis, we plot "If the plastic is a need, want, or indulgence", and on the Y-axis, we chart "how avoidable the plastic is and whether there are available alternatives". Along this Plastic Continuum, you’ll also see our level of Asurathvam. If we are indulging in plastic that’s both unnecessary and completely avoidable, our Asurathvam is at its peak—we are becoming one with Plasticasura (the dark lord)! #Launch: For the past four years, we’ve been steadily building India’s climate philanthropy ecosystem. But strategic and effective philanthropy faces a critical barrier; data on fund flows is fragmented and inaccessible in India. Our latest assessment ‘Trends in Climate Philanthropy’ is a first step towards building intelligence on India’s funding landscape. In this, we draw on quantitative and qualitative insights obtained from interactions with and publicly available data from 65 funders (CSR, domestic, and international). Urban #poverty, #homelessness and #tuberculosis (TB) are interconnected issues that significantly impact public health and social welfare. Marginalised and homeless individuals are particularly vulnerable to TB due to various factors such as overcrowded living conditions, poor sanitation, malnutrition, limited access to healthcare, and compromised immune systems. Humana People to People India Project #LEAD screened more than 600K individuals and identified 3182 #PwTBs. The intensive program which has over 30 touch points with every PwTB continuously helps them with awareness, overcoming stigma, social acceptance, access to health and welfare services, and even rehabilitation through livelihood promotion. The program has achieved over 98% treatment adherence through tirelessly working directly with the community to help overcome their challenges.
