Even before the live event starts, they’re searching for related sports information online. After the event ends, they continue to watch associated digital content. Some go as far as playing fantasy games to savor the event. These trends matter to all brands, regardless of category, because they’re rooted in fundamental audience behaviors. Understanding how these viewing behaviors play out can help brands reach new audiences and build strong customer connections. For example, audiences in India experience sporting events on two screens. While watching a live cricket match on a mobile phone or connected TV, 71% of live sports viewers tune in to similar content on a second device. YouTube, accessible on various screens, including connected TV (CTV), is the go-to platform for 44% of viewers to watch sports videos alongside live sports on TV. This T20 World Cup is a broadcaster’s nightmare First the timing. June and Same quarter as IPL. Advertisers have quarterly budgets and many big cricket advertisers already did IPL Second the time of matches. Half of the matches are at 6 AM which will have negligible viewership. Yes ICC events advertising is sold basis the India matches only, but still non India matches viewership will be even lower Third, the pitches. Unpredictable bounce, swing etc have made 100 a competitive score. Not the best pitches for T20 Disney paid a mind boggling 3 billion dollars for ICC TV and digital rights for 2024-2027. There is absolutely no way they can even get close to that number from ads and subscription revenue. Cricket( India home cricket, IPL, ICC) has always been a loss leader for broadcasters, but the increase in the rights prices in last 5-6 years have been insane. In my opinion, we will see a correction in this from the next cycle to make it more sustainable for broadcasters. Because unless it is win-win for all stakeholders ( advertisers, broadcasters and cricket boards), it will be difficult to sustain this in long run

The deal, announced today, includes the transfer of Paytm’s ticketing platforms—TicketNew and Insider—through its subsidiaries, Orbgen Technologies and Wasteland Entertainment. The boards of both companies gave the green light for this cash transaction on August 21. Under this agreement, One 97 Communications will shift its movie ticketing operations to its subsidiary OTPL and its sports and events ticketing business to another subsidiary, WEPL, through a slump sale.Since 2017, Paytm has been a key competitor to BookMyShow. However, with this deal, Zomato will take over Paytm's market share by acquiring the 'TicketNew' platform, known for movie ticket sales, and the 'Insider' platform, which handles tickets for live events.Paytm had initially developed its movie ticketing segment in-house and later expanded by acquiring Insider and TicketNew for ₹2.68 billion between 2017 and 2018. Now, Zomato plans to acquire the entire stake in OTPL and WEPL through a share purchase agreement, making these companies wholly-owned subsidiaries of Zomato.Additionally, Zomato will inject funds into OTPL and WEPL via a preferential allotment, equivalent to the slump sale consideration, which will be utilized to settle the amount owed to One 97 Communications.
