🌍 𝐀𝐢𝐫𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐞 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐅𝐫𝐚𝐠𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 It is when an airline chooses to distribute its offers across multiple channels, including traditional Global Distribution Systems (GDSs), direct NDC connections, and its website. 👉 𝐈𝐬 𝐢𝐭 𝐑𝐞𝐚𝐥? A recent poll by Business Travel News states that nearly 70% of travel buyers they have surveyed see fragmentation as a major problem, primarily due to difficulties accessing complete airline offers. 🔍 𝐖𝐡𝐲 𝐢𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐡𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐞𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠? 1. 𝐍𝐞𝐰 𝐃𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐛𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐂𝐚𝐩𝐚𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲 (𝐍𝐃𝐂): IATA’s XML-based NDC standard has disrupted the traditional GDS monopoly, opening up a new customer-centric channel for the airlines to distribute their content other than their websites.    2. 𝐑𝐢𝐬𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐋𝐨𝐰-𝐂𝐨𝐬𝐭 𝐂𝐚𝐫𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐫𝐬 (𝐋𝐂𝐂𝐬): IATA predicts that LCCs will account for 53% of passengers by 2037, up from 34% today. Most LCCs prefer direct distribution and do not participate in GDS distribution, which adds another layer of complexity to the content landscape. 3. 𝐀𝐢𝐫𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐞 𝐒𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐠𝐢𝐞𝐬 Airlines are taking different approaches with some fully embracing NDC, very few opposing NDC, others sticking with hybrid models, all of which contribute to content fragmentation. But listen to me, 𝐅𝐫𝐚𝐠𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐢𝐬 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐢𝐧𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐥𝐲 𝐛𝐚𝐝. It is just a temporary state and its pros far outweigh the cons. It offers airlines the chance to create retail experiences that are highly customer-centric and provides travel sellers an opportunity to offer more personalized choices to their customers. 💡 𝐇𝐨𝐰 𝐭𝐨 𝐍𝐚𝐯𝐢𝐠𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐓𝐡𝐢𝐬? 1. 𝐄𝐦𝐛𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐞 𝐍𝐃𝐂: It’s time to invest in NDC-enabled solutions to access richer, more personalized offers directly from airlines. As of Now, over 100 airlines are in their NDC Journey, with 73 already certified on the IATA Airline Retailing Maturity (ARM) index. 2. 𝐂𝐨𝐥𝐥𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐀𝐠𝐠𝐫𝐞𝐠𝐚𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐬:  Travel sellers should leverage platforms that aggregate and normalize content from multiple sources—whether GDS, NDC, or direct connections. 3. 𝐈𝐧𝐯𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐢𝐧 𝐓𝐞𝐜𝐡𝐧𝐨𝐥𝐨𝐠𝐲 (or) 𝐏𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐧𝐞𝐫 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐓𝐞𝐜𝐡 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐯𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐬: Choose between building in-house tech capabilities or partnering with a tech company that can develop a robust, unified system to fully optimize content handling and ensure scalability for future growth. ✨ 𝐊𝐞𝐲 𝐓𝐚𝐤𝐞𝐚𝐰𝐚𝐲 The landscape of travel distribution is evolving, and while content fragmentation might seem like a headache now, it’s also a doorway to innovation and growth. A Positive Feedback for SpiceJet Limited I’ve seen a lot of posts on social media lately highlighting negative experiences with SpiceJet Limited customer service, but I’d like to share my recent positive experience and a few suggestions for improvement. I recently traveled on flight SG531 from Bangalore to Patna on October 24, 2024, at 18:45, and I must say, it was a smooth and pleasant journey. The in-flight experience was excellent, especially the food, which was delicious. Although I don’t remember her exact name, the crew member from the aft section was exceptionally kind and demonstrated great customer service skills, making the 2:15-hour journey very comfortable. The flight took off on time and landed on time, which added to the overall great experience. 🛫🕒 One suggestion I’d like to offer is regarding the check-in process. I arrived at the airport around 2 pm, but check-in didn’t start until 3:30 pm, leaving many passengers, including myself, waiting for quite a while. Given the traffic and weather challenges in Bangalore, people often arrive early, and it would be more convenient if the check-in could start a bit earlier to accommodate this. A smoother check-in process would certainly enhance the overall travel experience. 👍 Overall, I had a great experience on this flight, and I genuinely hope SpiceJet continues to grow and improve. A stronger SpiceJet means a healthier Indian aviation market, which can prevent monopolies that could otherwise limit passenger rights and lead to less favorable practices.
