I highly recommend watching this fantastic documentary on Aadhaar to every tech leader. Today we all are talking about India's leap in digital journey but without this project I think It would have been very difficult for us as country to achieve this leap. There are so many points in this documentary that I could relate with different projects I have executed in past and I am sure each one of you must have gone through similar situations. mentioning some point which we all can relate very easily with Tech/digital program in our organisation. 1) Establishing the need of Project. There were already multiple identities why to add one more with adhaar ? when we want to start any new challenging project we do get this questions from stakeholders isn't it ? 2) Team composition: The Aadhaar team was probably the first fully private sector team working on a government program. not a conventional team composition, isn't it ? some time we do need such unconventional team to take up challenge that can't be handled through much informed team members. you just need people with passion to put their 100% on idea. 3) Uniqueness and exception handling: Now this area according to me has to be pure technology expertise to design a solution that covers 90% of usecases, if not 100%. designing to cater to 100% coverage may not always be possible. Exception handling for Aadhaar solution design was to handle exception of people without hands, without iris we can't keep investing and try to make a solution that caters to 100%, it's a trad off that we all have to make in our projects. we all have made some tough choices 😉 4) Change of timelines: Projects which are no where in management consideration becomes over night critical for go live. something similar was visible with Aadhaar project when they had to launch with short notice. As tech leader I have personally seen many such moments, I am sure many of you also must have. 5) Street smartness: Funny situation of how Aadhaar project team could use safari suit as an attire to get access in difficult areas which they were not even able to get through their identity cards. while managing critical project street smartness is one of the critical attribute your team should have. you can't be simply following rule book to get all situations managed. 6) Change of champions: While we can deal with all smaller issues during project execution because we know that project sponsors and champions are there to support. but what happens if the core project sponsors is no more ? something similar happened with Aadhaar team when government changed. well such situations are really defining moments. if your project is solid enough and if your execution skills are not too much dependent on management support than I am sure even change of management will not impact your project. I would be happy to hear more points, do comment, as sharing knowledge will only increase it 😊

Shocked to learn this about Lucknow 6500+ REPORTED cases across 180 Days and 200 Crores Lost (Av ₹3L/fraud) I wonder if these are scattered attacks from unrelated individuals (or micros groups) who are following similar modulus operandi or if it is the work of a cartel/mafia like group of select organisations with one super boss. And I also wonder why it is so hard for our govt to contain this menace. Frauds are becoming a norm in India. Online and Offline. Scammers are having an entire menu of scams like dating, custom, parking, deepfake, sec 498A, olx, virtual GF etc etc. List is long and unsuspecting new Internet users who joined internet after 2021 (~300 Mn Individuals) are more likely than others to become a victim. All scams involve a phone number and a digital money transfer. Fundamentally, these two data points are enough to figure out important details like geo location, names, addresses, bank account details, aadhar, PAN, IP Addresses etc etc, to build a trail of crime. Still we hardly ever hear of justice. Govt must do something. Personal Theory: On one side, I feel that it doesn't take a lot to lure and scam people for small amounts like 500-1000. Just a phone, a QR Code and a SIM is enough. And any above avg IQ person can figure it out real quick after getting scammed a couple of times (very small investment) On the other side, there's an awful lot number of young, paper educated people in the country who are addicted to betting apps. Should Hyderabad continue as Joint capital of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh? With the stipulated 10 years, as per the AP Reorganisation Act of 2014 ending on June 2, the issue has cropped up. It’s a serious matter. I make the point in the Week magazine (link below) that since both N Chandrababu Naidu with his grand vision of a ‘greenfield’ capital in Amaravathi had made progress by 2019 & Y S Jagan, though vacillating on 3-capitals to finally announce Vizag, the matter should be put to rest soon. It’s best to leave Hyderabad to Telangana. Since Naidu is back in power, his efforts to build Amaravati will revive with renewed vigour. Capital could boost APs overall efforts too. There is tremendous growth potential in AP and enterprise and entrepreneurship is in abundance. Moreover, the way politics played out in the two states post bifurcation in 2014, AP does not seem to have utilised Hyderabad as its capital. There are voices, predictably from AP wanting extension of the tenure by another 10 years. Similarly, murmurs of Hyd to be declared a Union Territory. The Telangana govt under Revanth Reddy, who is considered close to Naidu is in the spotlight. With Naidu holding the levers of power in Modi 3.O govt of NDA, the situation has turned a bit suspenseful Rahul Devulapalli.

If you are called about how the TRAI is going to disconnect your phone, do not respond. It is a scam. 2. If you are called by FedEx about a package and asked to press 1 or whatever, do not respond. It is a scam. 3. If a police officer calls you and talks to you about your Aadhaar, do not respond. It is a scam. 4. If they tell you that you are under 'digital arrest', do not respond. It is a scam. 5. It they tell you that drugs have been discovered in some package meant for you or sent by you, do not respond. It is a scam. 6. If they say you can't tell anyone, do not listen to them. Inform Cyber Crime Police at 1930. 7. If they contact you using WhatsApp or SMS, do not respond. It is a scam. 8. If anyone calls you and tells you they have sent money to your UPI id by mistake and that they just want their money back, do not respond. It is a scam. 9. If someone says they want to buy your car or your washing machine or your sofa and say they are from the army or CRPF and show you their id card, do not respond. It is a scam. 10. If someone says they are calling from Swiggy or Zomato and need you to confirm your address by pressing 1 or anything else, do not respond. It is a scam. 11. If they ask you to share OTP just to cancel the order or ride or whatever, do not respond. It is a scam. In any case, do not share your OTP with anyone over phone. 12. Never answer any calls on video mode. 13. If confused simply switch off your phone & block that number. 14. Never press on any link written in blue. 15. Even if you get a notice from the highest Police , CBI, ED , IT Department; do verify offline. 16. Always check if such letters are from authoritied Government portals . As a matter of digital hygiene, do NOT share your address, location, phone, Aadahar, PAN, DoB, or ANY personal detail with ANYONE over phone or messages. In fact, refuse even to acknowledge your own name on a call. Tell them that since they called you, they are supposed to know your name, number, and whatever detail they wish you to 'confirm'. Even if they have your details, do not confirm or deny or get caught up in any conversation. Simply disconnect and block. In every one of these cases, and similar ones, the procedure to safeguard yourself is simple: cut the call, note the number and block. Do not press any numbers during call, don't listen to them. Simply cut the call, block the number. Remember, if they are putting pressure on you, intimidating you, or forcing you to act or respond immediately, it is a scam. Cyber fraudsters are coming out with different modus operandi to trap & fleece you. Hi friends - heads up on a large scale scam targeting people -- potentially worldwide, but a lot of victims in India. Cyber criminals are calling people, mostly on WhatsApp convincing them with some real information about them, like their Aadhar card number or address or where the kid goes to school, and then claiming that their Aadhar number has been caught up in a scandal and reeling the victim in, with real police outfits on WhatsApp video call - pretending to be cops, CBI officers. Then they show documents supposed to be from Supreme Court of India and then convince you to wire them money (after asking you how much you have). There is a lot of psychological manipulation involved, can go on for multiple days where victim is instructed to not talk to anyone and appears to be a part of well organized crime ring. Unfortunately, my mom in law fell victim to this and the criminals have emptied out most of her life savings (18 lakhs). We are working with Cyber Crime division to see if there are chances of recovery. In addition to the loss of money, this took a lot of mental toll on her. So, I am sharing this message to raise awareness. Please share with your friends and family and alert them to not answer any calls from unknown numbers even if the name on the WhatsApp profile looks official or like a friend. If they fall for it, find a way to physically secure the victim so that they can't be called by strangers, and then please reach out to India's National Toll- free Helpline number '1930' ASAP. Next step is to see if you can follow up with the bank. Nicely said, - Think of servers which are on premise , Data center DC remote hands needed to reset or some one has to drive to data center to attempt the fix manually. - I have seen cases OOB, Dell IDRAC or any OOB not working and some times OOB never tested. - What happens if BIOS is protected with the password. - Servers locked inside the datacenter , location issue by the remote hands or the DC team. - Recovery in the initial days of my experience it was simple with F8 keys mostly, but I believe this is quite cumbersome in the recent days to boot in to safe mode or recovery mode. - Virtualisation and Cloud may cause more challenges.

Half Chances.... ....had an opportunity to listen to Jhonty Rhodes speak at the recently concluded #CIO100 symposium & awards. He touched upon the aspect of empowering & inculcating the risk taking mindset in a team. As a fielder he always went for those "half chances", thats probably made him stand out. Now as a fielding coach, he encourages and evaluates his trainees on their willingness and ability to go for those half chances. Outcome afterwards. Take those half chances, encourage your team to do likewise. Give yourself and your team the opportunity to take risks, fail fast, learn and move on.

Let Elon Musk and every robot manufacturers roll out such robots in the market as soon as possible. Like each one of us own one or two phones, who knows we may own a robot. I damn need 10 of them :). My dear fellow Indians, please stay tuned, creative, innovative, prepared for all possible business opportunities. The way how mobile phone cover are designed, manufactured and sold in every corner, who knows similar demands for robot costumes may arise. "The robot manufacturers might even expose some interface to let the smart costumes connect with the robot". Who knows smart costume designers, manufacturers, sellers could be a boom! When I saw the robots dance pretty good, I felt they need smart costumes. I would love to try a lord Krishna costume with one of the Musk' robot :). It will be great if I can feed my mother's recipes cookbook into such robots and make them everlasting for generations. I can think of local experts who will help these things easily possible similar to those mobile repair or service center shops. Like app development and publish in Playstore for phone, who knows one can develop modules for the robots and publish. It will be totally a new paradigm. Most of you reading this post and especially in southern part of India, definitely you would watched or atleast heard about “Amaran” movie, a recent blockbuster in Tamil film industry. Well, this post is not about the movie or its story rather an interesting aspect to Data and Personal Privacy. A Chennai college student, was bombarded with unsolicited calls after his mobile number coincidentally matched heroine’s number portrayed in the film. He did filed a legal petition against the makers of the film and how far it went is unknown but the breach of personal privacy can’t be reversed ❌ When researched a bit, got to know that in India, the following number range is reserved for use in film and television productions. +91-9999xxxxxx +91-9876xxxxxx Similar regulations are found in other countries like U.S, Australia and Germany, providing a specific range of numbers for use in media and communications. Air India and Vistara merged, finally. So now - Air India remains the ONLY full-service airline in India. Air India and Indigo now control ~93% of the market. Others have just either gone bankrupt or have been acquired. Once upon a time there were more than 5 such players (in full service). And more than 20 unique airlines, which have been in existence sometimes in the past. Similar story is in which sector? Telecom. An industry dominated by 10+ operators, is now down to 3 (or 2.5, or may be add BSNL now that they are trying to resurge). Commonality between these industries? Race to lower charges. Which could have been afforded by big players, eating away the smaller ones. Both are highly government regulated. Both are highly capital intensive industries. Which other industries are dominated by 2-3 players, serving masses now, which once had multiple players?
