As the NACA0012-IK30 wing enters its new phase of studies, wherein the potential for mitigating the adverse effects of dynamic stall is sought, recent results demonstrate the feasibility of the IK30 mechanism. A recent paper (Mitigating Dynamic Stall with a Movable Leading-Edge: The NACA0012-IK30 Wing [ICAS2024]) presents the wing’s performance under various plunging cases, where the leading edge deflection was studied parametrically. The figure attached illustrates the aerodynamic coefficients for three reduced frequencies and two leading-edge pitching amplitudes with a nondimensional amplitude of 0.50 and the back part fixed at 15 degrees. In this condition, the movable leading edge can reduce drag by 45%, increase lift by approximately 5%, and simultaneously reduce the pitching moment. More significant improvements are achieved in other conditions, as detailed in the paper. The IK30 is now undergoing a new series of tests, which will investigate pitching conditions. Significant improvements are expected, which are anticipated to be further enhanced when integrated with an optimization framework. #dynamicStallMitigation #IK30

I recently had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Rajan Anandan sir in Delhi. We had a good 10-minute conversation about the drone ecosystem in India and its growth . Wingtip Vortices and Downwash Demonstration I’m thrilled to share a fascinating hands-on experiment that Aryan Nikam and I recently conducted under the guidance of Dr. RAJESH SENTHIL KUMAR T . The demonstration aimed to explore the effects of wingtip vortices and downwash in finite wings—an experience made possible by our university, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham's support. The setup was simple yet visually striking. We used 5 incense sticks (agarbatti) to generate smoke and placed a bright light underneath for enhanced visuals. We then flew a paper plane through the smoke and observed the creation of wingtip vortices and the downwash effect. 🌀 Wingtip Vortices are spiraling air patterns formed at the wingtips due to the pressure difference between the upper and lower wing surfaces. These vortices are crucial in understanding induced drag in aircraft. ⤵️ Downwash occurs as a result of spanwise flow and influences the overall lift, contributing to pressure drag. From our experiment, we learned that finite wings produce wingtip vortices. The practical demonstration helped us visualize complex aerodynamic phenomena, deepening our understanding of real-world aircraft behavior.

A shocking revelation indicates 90% of engineering startups shutdown within one year even though they were all well funded. This is mainly due to improper planning. They instead of focusing and investing on R&D, invest on unnecessary capital equipment and hire people and consultants to run them and finally exhaust all the funds on unwanted things which could have well been outsourced to an efficient contract manufacturing company who would have guaranteed the product output at a fraction of the cost, on time product release to Market and all this while ensuring quality and on time delivery. If you are a mechanical engineering startup or a product oriented company, don’t commit the same mistake which could result in your shutdown. Think smart, approach us.
