The proposed ethanol plant in Lara, Chhattisgarh, aims to produce 10 tonnes per day (TPD) of 4G ethanol from flue gases emitted by power plants. Let’s break down the three major blocks of this innovative project: a. Carbon Capture Technology by Veolia Carbon Clean: This technology will capture 25 TPD of CO2 from flue gases, significantly reducing greenhouse gas emissions. By capturing CO2, the plant contributes to environmental sustainability and mitigates the impact of industrial emissions. b. Green Hydrogen Generation: The plant will generate 3 tonnes per day of green hydrogen. This hydrogen production is achieved through a 7.5 MW electrolyzer. Green hydrogen is a clean energy source produced by splitting water into hydrogen and oxygen using renewable electricity. c. Conversion to 4G Ethanol: LanzaTech Inc. employs advanced microbial fermentation technology. Captured CO2 and generated H2 are combined in this process. The result is the production of 4G ethanol, a sustainable biofuel. This innovative approach helps address climate change and promotes circular economy principles. Sembcorp Green Infra Pvt. Ltd., part of Sembcorp Industries Ltd, has received a Letter of Award (LOA) from the Solar Energy Corporation of India Limited (SECI) for the development of a 150 MW Inter State Transmission System (ISTS) connected wind-solar hybrid power project. The awarded project forms part of a larger 600 MW bid issued by SECI and will operate on a build-own-operate model. Once a PPA is signed, the project’s power output will be sold to SECI under a 25-year term offtake agreement. Sembcorp said the project is expected to be operational within 24 months of signing the PPA, funded through a combination of internal resources and debt. "With this award, Sembcorp’s gross renewables portfolio in India stands at 4.9 GW,” Sembcorp said in a statement. “This brings Sembcorp’s gross renewables capacity globally to 14.6 GW, including a 49MW acquisition pending completion.” #cleanenergy

The dynamic QR code printed on spot bills in Tata Power Odisha Discoms (currently live in TPCODL and TPWODL, others are under implementation) is truest to its name—it is the real deal when it comes to being dynamic. Unlike many other ‘dynamic’ QR codes used in market, this one shows the up to date payable amount to the customer even if transactions happen in the account after the bill is printed. The QR can be scanned via any of the popular UPI apps. A very convenient tech for the customers to pay on time to avail digital and prompt rebate. The intelligent operation of mechanical equipment in any plant is the key to energy saving. In Indian water and wastewater sector, this is particularly true to the large WTPs, STPs and Associated Infrastructures being set up as part of various initiatives. Since the O&M period is long, energy consumption forms a substantial part of the Project cost. My observation based on estimation and other inputs is that millions of rupees can be saved if the mechanical equipment, especially the various Raw Water, Clear Water and Sewage Pumps can be operated intelligently during the ten or fifteen years O&M period. Unfortunately, during my visits to certain existing Plants and Infrastructure works at various parts of India, I noticed that this idea has not caught up with the Large Infrastructure Companies who have set up such facilities which either became operational in the recent past or under final stage of commissioning. As far as energy consumption is concerned, the operators are happy if the figure matches the guaranteed figures so that there is no penalty. If serious thought is given in this area, not only the country and the environment benefit, but the contractors also have the opportunity of saving millions of rupees over estimated cost which can offset any unforeseen major maintenance cost to the facilities easily.
