RISE with SAP Going by SAP’s numbers, things are really looking up for #RISEwithSAP. As SAP’s RISE program notched a significant increase in deals from large and lucrative engagements. Overall, revenue from S/4HANA Cloud was up. Touted by SAP as a complete ‘business-transformation-as-a-service’ offering, RISE with SAP is a subscription-based, bundled offering that includes SAP tools and services, business process intelligence, SAP business technology platform, and the SAP Business Network. That said Rise with SAP isn’t that expensive either… I was in an executive briefing yesterday and this was a very interesting topic of discussion. I would like to add some additional background to this statement, and maybe a few things many executives looking at #RISE haven’t properly considered. So let’s look at this fully: When lining upan on-premise system against a Rise contract, on the surface it’s understandable that executives might have been horrified by the cost. But when taking into account all of the hidden costs of an on-premise landscape. Only then can they carry out a realistic ‘apples-to-apples’ comparison of Rise vs on-premise. It might even end up being a surprisingly useful exercise. Highlighting how expensive the so-called "cheap" on-premise system really is. The TCO (total cost of ownership) for on-premise costs which will be replaced by Rise are, but not limited to, the following: ✅ Annual vendor maintenance costs from SAP (a percentage of your initial perpetual license fee) ✅ Hosting costs – granted this can sometimes be difficult to clearly quantify especially with a data centre, but there will be associated costs. If a hyperscaler is used as part of a pseudo on-premise system, then these costs can definitely be quite high ✅ Disaster recovery costs – again with a hyperscaler, these costs can be very high too. Even with on-premise hosting, costs here are definitely on the high side ✅ System administration costs – system monitoring and basis administration costs ✅ Ongoing Technical upgrade costs ✅ Separate contract costs for existing SAP applications (these will be rolled into a RISE contract) – eg Datasphere, SAC, Business Objects, ILM, APO, IBP, Data Services, BW/4HANA etc. ✅ Any other non-SAP costs which will be eliminated by a move to S4HANA with RISE (for example, integration software and middleware costs which may be replaced by the SAP Integration Suite) In a nutshell-shell it’s a complicated labyrinth that needs some due diligence and possibly some consulting support to ensure a clear understanding is made. #MJDNET Jon Simmonds credited for the #Rise cost comparison.
