Vedanta's Q1 FY25 results demonstrate positive yet cautious progress in leveraging new capacity, raw material management, and operational efficiency to enhance its aluminum production. The company shown top line and net profit increase of 54% year-over-year, reaching ₹5,095 crore, driven by a 47% rise in EBITDA to ₹10,275 crore​. The Lanjigarh refinery's alumina production surged by 36% year-over-year, boosting total aluminum output to 596,000 tones, a 3% increase​, However, this increase is not substantial, indicating that the enhanced capacity's widespread impact is not fully realized. Vedanta has reduced CoP for aluminum by 11% year-over-year, as economies of scale improved operational efficiency​, despite major raw material, bauxite, saw its price rise from 194.0 in Q4 FY24 to 219.5 in Q1 FY25​ (FRED)​. The use of renewable energy increased from 5.4% in Q4 FY24 to 8.5% in Q1 FY25, further reducing energy costs​. Red flags of Vedanta stay same are its dependency on volatile commodity prices and the challenge of integrating new capacities effectively, Promoters have not been able to reduce 100% of the pledged shares, and there is a reduction in the number of shareholders. Increased dependency on offshore funds may pose additional risks​. The company's focus on backward integration and capacity expansion critical to sustain competitive advantages and also mitigating risks associated with fluctuating raw material costs​, which has not shown tangible results. While Vedanta's financial performance shows improvement, potential investors should be cautious of the inherent risks associated with commodity price volatility and financial dependencies. The company's dividend yield remains a positive aspect, but other parameters such as strategic execution and risk management need careful evaluation. Will you buy it ?? Lets see comments.

This interview of Mr. C. Sivasankaran, one of India's finest thinkers and ace businessmen, by Mr. Raj Shamani, one of my favourite YouTubers, is a great learning resource for all of us. I am thankful to both of them for great interview. I was one of the beneficiaries/ user of Mr. Sivasankaran's Aircel telecom service provider's service. Aircel's very small denomination recharge voucher of Rs.14 for 3 days unlimited internet was poor man's cow to me as we didn't have today's cost effective mobile combo plans at that time. I used to recharge with Rs.14 voucher for unlimited internet, most importantly for downloading big softwares from official websites of Microsoft, Oracle, etc. But unfortunately, Mr. Sankaran's one mistake put my old man's cow to an end. He has discussed that issue here. Apart from that, there are many lessons we can learn from this interview. I am sure that Mr. Sivasankaran's new venture of bio hacking or wellness will make a road to his comeback. All the best to him. Ace thinkers never stop their journeys and they continue to benefit large masses. And this is happening with Mr. C. Sivasankaran too.

The recent commentary from CEOs of major companies such as Asian Paints, Hindustan Unilever (HUL), and Maruti Suzuki highlights a critical issue in India's economic growth: a disconnect between GDP growth and consumer income. The leaders of these companies have pointed out that while GDP is rising, largely driven by government borrowing and spending, consumer purchasing power appears to be weakening. This is reflected in stagnating or declining demand, particularly in lower-income and rural segments, which affects sectors like FMCG, automobiles, and paints. From a broader fiscal perspective, government data for 2024-25 indicates that 27% of total government revenue is sourced from borrowings, while gross market borrowing is projected at ₹14.01 lakh crore. Meanwhile, capital expenditure remains unchanged at ₹11.1 lakh crore, while fiscal deficit stands at 4.9% of GDP, with a target to reduce it below 4.5% by 2025-26. Tax revenue shows moderate growth, but it is not sufficient to counterbalance the sluggish consumer demand, which is partly due to limited income growth​ Despite steady GDP growth driven by government expenditure, the lack of meaningful income growth among the general population is leading to reduced per capita consumption. This structural imbalance suggests that economic growth is not translating effectively into widespread prosperity, thereby reflecting challenges in achieving inclusive growth​. It's Advantage Air India Limited Again At the Wharton School, Professor Jagmohan Raju remarked that while marketing aims to deliver value through a superior and differentiated offering, it’s not a substitute for a great product that meets customers' needs. The same applies to customer service. Air India's staff was always courteous, but they couldn’t do much about the worn-out, damaged seats in their aircraft. Passengers couldn’t help but notice and frequently complained about the state of the planes. But now, Air India stands apart as the only airline in the Indian domestic route operating the brand-new Airbus 350-900, complete with in-flight entertainment. Customers no longer need to pay for in-flight refreshments, and they have the option of choosing from three different seating arrangements. On top of that, Air India offers more affordable fares while benefiting from the higher passenger capacity of its aircraft.The result? Cabin crew is upbeat. Flights are fully booked, even on weekdays. Air India is delivering value through a superior product and efficiently capturing value through strategic pricing to increase producer surplus. In contrast, competitors fleets lack these advantages. With an all economy class, no in flight entertainment, and chargeable refreshments, the only change they can make quickly is the one that will hurt their addional revenue stream. Consumers always seek to maximize their surplus, and therefore, once again, it will be advantage Air India. That's competitive marketing strategy in action.
