Is Kubernetes becoming the de facto “multi-cloud” OS!!! Many applications are adopting “multi-cloud” and “hybrid cloud” strategies, leveraging different public cloud services based on workload needs. This shift aligns with Kubernetes’ growth. Recent data shows 40-50% of Kubernetes clusters now support stateful applications like databases and message queues, which might benefit from distributed multi-cloud resiliency and scale. According to Gartner, by 2025, 85% of organizations will run containerized applications in production, up from less than 30% in 2021. Additionally, McKinsey reports that organizations with multi-cloud strategies expect to reduce costs by 30-40% through optimized workload distribution. On top of this, multi-cloud control plane tools are helping teams manage and gain visibility across Kubernetes clusters in different clouds. These advancements have made Kubernetes a top choice for running complex, stateful workloads in production. It's all possible because of #Kubernetes Kubernetes is a cluster management tool developed by Google to handle their work loads on YouTube and other services. Which they made this as open source and now is used by many tech giants to handle their microservices like Tinder, Spotify, Flipkart, Azure even The New York Times use it. To understand this tool you should be aware of containerisation of application, container runtime and any containerisation tool like docker, podman etc. Once you have strong hold on it you can understand the architecture of kubernetes easily. SBOM as a default during builds is the first step to start making users aware that it matters & build tools/package managers take this seriously. It can then be left upto users to utilise and distribute it for technical & compliance reasons. What can you do ? Use Buildsafe - open source tool to create 0 cve base image and take control over what goes into the image and then use that to build your 0 CVE application. Along with this get high quality SBOM as this will generate build time SBOM. Why are we getting so much cost and latency on cloud platforms ? Many companies are struggling with price to performance ratio. Hats off to Subhash Choudhary .. one of the best guys I have ever seen, he made us know how we are over spending and not getting up to the mark performance in many production grade applications. The best part of this which I liked is how he managed failover from on-prem to cloud platform is mind blowing. KUBERNETES AUDITING While configuring the audit policy, one has to update API server with utmost care and caution. Small error / mistake in typo, can make API server down and your access to Kubernetes cluster get stopped! Focus on name of policy, name of log file and parameters inside kube-apiserver.yaml manifest. As stated earlier, in case of emergency, it is better to back-up original manifest of API server. Further, this volume can be mounted at suitable mountpoint inside the container's file system where app is running.
