Swiggy went public today. 3 lessons I learnt from talking to a Swiggy Delivery boy: 1. I should avoid the service road due to ongoing Gas pipeline work 2. Electric scooters are worth the ROI if you use it daily. 3. 3.5% per month is the current market rate for hand loans. The IPO didn't come up. But, we did start a Finance company. I am the Lender and he will get a 20% commission for the lead and guarantee (FLDG). What should we call our innovative startup? Thoughts?

There’s a problem with Zepto delivery! . . I hadn’t noticed this until it became a pattern. The moment you order from Zepto, the estimated delivery time in all cases is 8-10 minutes. But when you open the app after 15 minutes to check, the time counter moves to 7 minutes from the initial 8 minutes. So, is Zepto’s clock running slow or our clock running fast? See, I totally get the fact that it’s an estimated delivery time, not the actual, but the 8 minutes finishing up at 30 minutes is a little disappointing, especially if it happens every time, even if you order 3 times in a day. This is a classic example of Deceptive Marketing or Deceptive Advertisement. Time and again, Zepto promotes 10-minute delivery through ads, social media, etc. So, showing a quick delivery time is a way to attract consumers. And then, each time, they adjust the timer to match the actual delivery or pull up ‘Delivery Delayed’ message. I don’t have any problem with 20 minute delivery, but tell me honestly that it will take that much time, because I may schedule an office video meeting, or put a pot of water to boil based on the time you give me. Plus, I don’t even want delivery people rushing and rash-riding only to deliver within 10 minutes. Layoffs is a part and parcel of the 🎯 From your 20's to 40's... One thing that I believe someone has to do is keep adding different skills at multiple job roles from the time you get in your 20's and by the time you reach your 40's you have multiple fronts open at your side, that's the best way. So even if you get laid off and you do not want to start something on your own you are still having that opportunity to be creative and hireable for others. Getting laid off is a process and someone who gets laid off in most of the cases knows it way before this situation comes, so you also have to be proactive and decide if you want to get asked *leave* or You want to take a call and say *Good bye* As a sales person who is now reaching in 40's I have learned this from my profession and keep opening multiple fronts it helps you when you do sales individually or with a team, Career is no more different you are *selling your self and striking a deal for an annual turnover for yourself* so you should always have multiple fronts open and that can happen only with multiple knowledgeable stuff that you learn during the years of work 😉👍 #career #careergrowth #laidoff #google #professionaldevelopment #professionalgrowth #startup

Bolt raised $1.4 Bn and Fast raised $120 Mn in 2021-22 5 companies in that year’s YC cohort were building Checkouts for LatAM, South East Asia, etc As we were still narrowing down on a problem, this was impossible to ignore. Having seen Flipkart build Amazon of India, Ola build Uber of India, it made sense that “someone will build Bolt/Fast of India” It became a good starting point For our VC experience, we also knew such pattern matching is useful in fundraising We launched the product and had some customers. That’s when stories of bolt and fast failing started to do the rounds on Twitter. There was a lot of drama. It was hard to look away. After some introspection on what this means for us, we realized that 1) Customers were excited about the problem and were willing to pay. To the extent, people were signing up for demos inbound via word of mouth 2) It was merely a starting point. As we started spending more time with customers, we started to see plethora of problems in “effectively engaging customers” they were facing 3) India (our first market) is uniquely different from US (their first market) : Phone number as an identifier, un-standard addresses, low trust, Cash on Delivery, So many more payment options 4) US had likes of PayPal, ApplePay and GooglePay solving this problem making the competitive landscape even more intense I personally think it is a great wedge into the market. It got us the customers who shared several insights turning the wedge into a product, which we hope to turn into a platform. It was also clear that everyone is writing their own story. Pattern matching only goes so far.
