The newly formed government in India has extended the Digital Health Incentive Scheme (DHIS) by another year, aiming to bolster the digitization of healthcare records and link them with Ayushman Bharat Health Account (ABHA) IDs. The Digital Health Incentives Scheme (DHIS) that offers incentives of up to Rs. 4 crores under ABDM. Initially set to conclude on June 30, 2024, the DHIS will now continue until June 30, 2025, or until the allocated funds are exhausted. This initiative is part of the broader Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM), which seeks to create a secure and centralized digital health infrastructure for every citizen. The primary objective of the DHIS is to promote the adoption of digital healthcare services across India. The scheme aims to foster a digitally inclusive healthcare ecosystem. Each hospital receives INR 20 per patient for digitizing health records and linking them to ABHA IDs. With Digitization of health records, patients can access their health records from anywhere in the country, facilitating better continuity of care and reducing the likelihood of medical errors. Since its launch on January 1, 2023, the DHIS has made significant strides. According to data from the ABDM dashboard, as of April 3, 2024, a total of 5,894.60 lakh ABHA IDs have been created across the country. The National Health Authority (NHA) has issued guidelines to ensure hospitals use the funds for improving digital infrastructure or any activity related to patient welfare, such as providing free Wi-Fi, better seating arrangements, wheelchairs, stretchers, and clean drinking water. As of now, INR 34 crore has been released to hospitals under the scheme, but only a portion has been utilized. Future Prospects and Challenges The extension of the DHIS underscores the government's commitment to advancing digital healthcare in India. By providing financial incentives and supporting the integration of digital health records, the scheme has the potential to transform the healthcare landscape. How does India deliver “Care” to rural communities through Digital Health? The mission of an ideal Digital Health Solution should be to deliver hospital-grade care, anytime and anywhere across India & the globe. The Solution should enable multiple health screens & deliver high-quality care regardless of whether the rural community has a local Doctor or a trained Nurse or whether they have power or WiFi, etc. While challenges like power & WiFi can be addressed through technology, how does one deliver health screens & diagnostics without the presence of a local Doctor or Nurse? Enter the ASHA Worker. THE most critical “Non-Technology” component of our Digital Health Solution. It is the Asha worker who ensures that all tasks related to creating a patient profile, capturing patient symptoms, and measuring patient vitals, are completed efficiently despite the unavailability of qualified medical professionals. The Asha workers also visit patient’s homes to provide door-to-door care – especially for older patients with mobility issues and for expectant mothers who may not be able to visit a clinic. And finally, there’s an emotional element to delivering good quality “patient care” that cannot be fulfilled by ANY technology, and which is warmly delivered by the Asha worker. The Asha workers also need to be provided with a digital health solution that has advanced telemedicine capabilities but is extremely easy to use. That was the design mantra for the RHEMOS Health Station. India’s smallest & easy-to-use rural care solution. It enables Asha workers to administer 60+ critical vitals, blood/urine & pre-natal tests in village PHCs. The Health Station can also be carried to a patient’s home to deliver high-quality care ensuring huge patient convenience. Once it measures vitals, it transmits test results to App & Cloud to enable remote Doctor interventions & treatment. RHEMOS also works offline if cellular networks are unavailable & enables local health screens and collects test results, which are all transmitted to cloud once the cellular network is restored. Bengal tops among all Indian states in quality of public health facilities as per NQAS certification data launched recently. One in four healthcare facilities surveyed in Bengal has attained National Quality Assurance Standards (NQAS) certification. National Quality Assurance Standards (NQAS) certification program launched by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare under Government of India, assesses and certifies the quality of public health facilities in India. Of the 12,859 health facilities in the state, including district hospitals, sub-divisional hospitals, community health centres (CHC) and primary health centres (PHCs), 23.6% or 3,039 facilites have received the NQAS certification that are broadly arranged under eight areas of concern — service provision, patient rights, inputs, support services, clinical care, infection control, quality management and outcome. These standards meet global benchmarks in terms of comprehensiveness, objectivity, evidence and rigour of development. Unlocking Marketing Insights: Right Product, Right Place (4Ps) On a fine day, I stepped out of the gym and noticed a stack of discount coupons for DDRC Agilus Diagnostics health checkup packages. What would be my first reaction? Yes ,Curiosity ! Why would a diagnostics lab target gym-goers with their promotions? Then it clicked: Right product, right place. The gym is a hub for people focused on improving their health whether it's weight loss, strength building, or overall fitness. Many may also have underlying health concerns or simply want to track their progress. Offering health checkup discounts in this context makes perfect sense. It's a direct way to target an audience already invested in their well-being. It made me reflect on the importance of knowing where to place your product to reach the right audience.
