Why you should continue the user interview - even if they are not your core audience? In a recent research for an Agent Design and Development Project we continued user research even though some of the candidates were not our perfect target audience. Here are few findings from 3 such sessions 1. They might point out features or friction points that aren’t immediately apparent to our core audience but still impact overall usability. 2. They struggle with certain navigation or features - fixing those could benefit our primary audiences. 3. In case they have used similar products in other industries - their inputs help us see some parallels to improve our own product. 4. Chance of discovering adjacent market needs. 5. By completing the interview we developed a positive relationship and could collaborate in future. What are your thoughts? is it a good idea to continue or we should have stopped? Let me know...

My second attempt to convert text-based blogs into engaging podcasts using AI. Today's topic, traditional contrast calculation vs APCA, for WCAG guideline 1.4.3, sufficient contrast. A quick recap: we need a contrast ratio of 4.5:1 for text and 3:1 for large text. Traditionally, the contrast is calculated using #luminance values, which conflicts with how human #eyes perceive color. APCA attempts to address this issue by considering the color pairing and font weights. SOP to run a design agency as a freelancer. Note: This is the work and observation of 1 year. From conducting deep work and disciplined life style to staying free and away from desk for 3-4 days once in a while (Not procrastinating but a healthy break perhaps) 1. To gain new business: There is no set of rules for conducting marketing and business development activities; If you are running on freelance basis. Being creative with your post is the key to the outcomes. 2. To entertain client while in collaboration: No need to use half a dozen of project management tools. Communication via email or phone call during the initial stage of project, progressive updates through out collaboration and encouragements to clear the invoice after delivering helps to build trust. Slowly but certainly a steady one. 3. After project deliveries: As a freelancer once ideally stays in the zone of a particular project for atleast 2-3 days after delivering. This is the best time to quickly work and wrap it up as a portfolio and share on your website, Dribbble or Behance 4. Recently Delivered Projects gets more attention in portfolio: Use the recently delivered project snippets in your proposals to gain traction and initiate the conversation. 5. UX Series: Fintech in India Problem 5: Transparency in Fee Structures and Terms Users often face hidden fees and complex terms that are difficult to understand, eroding trust and leading to a sense of exploitation rather than empowerment. In India, the lack of transparency in fee structures and terms within financial services remains a significant barrier to building trust and fostering financial inclusion. Whether in rural or urban settings, users often encounter hidden fees and complex terms that are difficult to decipher, leading to a sense of exploitation rather than empowerment. In rural India, where digital and financial literacy rates are lower, these opaque practices can have a severe impact. A 2022 report found that 68% of rural users were unaware of the full costs associated with their banking products, leading to unexpected charges and a reluctance to engage further with formal financial services. This lack of clarity erodes trust, pushing many to rely on informal channels that are often riskier and more expensive in the long run. Urban users, while generally more financially literate, are not immune to this issue. A 2023 survey revealed that 45% of urban Indians felt misled by hidden fees or unclear terms when using financial products, such as loans or investment services. This complexity not only undermines trust but also discourages individuals from making informed financial decisions, ultimately stunting their financial growth. Eleven public sector banks—excluding State Bank of India (SBI) — have charged Rs 2,331 crore from account holders for their failure to maintain minimum balance in savings banks in FY2024, a rise of 25.63 per cent from Rs 1,855.43 crore in FY2023 Finance Ministry data shows the country’s largest lender, State Bank of India, collected Rs 1,771 crore during April-November 2017 as charges from customers who did not maintain their minimum monthly average balance in their accounts, according to a report in The Indian Express. This is more than the bank’s July-September quarter net profit of Rs 1,581.55 crore and nearly half of the Rs 3,586 crore it earned as net profit April-September. For India to achieve true financial empowerment, transparency must be at the forefront of all financial services. Clear, understandable fee structures and terms should be standard, enabling users to make informed choices with confidence. By prioritizing transparency, financial institutions can build lasting trust, ensuring that every Indian feels empowered, not exploited, by the financial system.

*Episode 26: Understanding Iterative Design* Design is an iterative process. But what kind of iteration? In the realm of design, here's a common scenario - ❌ Designers often unknowingly fixate on a solution ❌ They become emotionally attached to their ideas, UI, and solutions pushing stakeholders in a single direction ❌ They backtrack to low-fidelity wireframes ❌ They gather feedback and keep making slight adjustments ❌ Then they move to high-fidelity designs ❌ Disagreement from others may upset them But, This is NOT an iterative design process. A skilled designer takes a different path - ✅ They refrain from prematurely settling on a solution. ✅ They maintain emotional detachment from their designs. ✅ They explore multiple concept sketches from varied perspectives. For example, if you are designing a healthcare application, your designs will drastically change if you design it from different perspectives like - patient safety vs data accuracy vs productivity. ✅ They welcome opposing viewpoints without personal offense. ✅ They select the most sensible option or craft a customised solution [as a team]. ✅ They proceed to high-fidelity designs. This genuine iterative process introduces fresh perspectives, potentially uncovering insights that stakeholders hadn't considered. This is how you truly contribute value as a designer. If you've accomplished something like this, make sure to showcase it prominently in your next design interview. 💡 Remember: Iterative design isn't merely about advancing from low to high fidelity. UX Series: Fintech challenges in India Challenge 8: Ethical Concerns with Data Usage In India, ethical concerns surrounding data usage in the financial sector are becoming increasingly prominent, leading to growing user mistrust, particularly in digital financial services. Both rural and urban populations are cautious about how their personal information is collected, used, and shared by financial institutions, which hinders the full adoption of digital finance. In rural India, where digital literacy is relatively low, individuals are often hesitant to engage with digital financial platforms due to fears of data misuse. A 2022 report found that 65% of rural Indians expressed concerns about sharing personal information online, fearing that their data might be exploited for purposes beyond their consent. This mistrust is further amplified by a lack of transparency and understanding regarding data privacy policies, which keeps rural users dependent on cash-based systems, even when digital solutions are more convenient. In urban India, while there is greater digital engagement, the issue of data privacy is still a significant concern. A 2023 survey revealed that 48% of urban Indians worry about how their financial data is being used by companies, particularly regarding targeted advertisements and potential breaches. This lack of trust often leads users to limit their interaction with digital financial platforms, hindering the growth of the fintech ecosystem. To build trust and foster greater engagement, financial institutions must prioritize transparency and ethical data usage. Clear communication about data privacy, coupled with robust safeguards, can help alleviate concerns, empowering users across India to embrace digital financial services with confidence, whether they live in rural or urban areas.

*Episode 15: Sensible Listing of Design Tools* When I started my career in design, I started with PowerPoint. Yes! we used to design mocks ups in PowerPoint. Over time, I transitioned to using Axure, then Sketch, followed by Figma, and so forth. Design, much like technology, is in a constant state of evolution, and so are the tools we use. As a result, many designers accumulate experience with a multitude of tools throughout their careers. Hence, often designers feel compelled to list every tool they've ever used, resulting in resumes that resemble laundry lists like - ➡ Figma ➡ Photoshop ➡ Illustrator ➡ Adobe XD ➡ Sketch ➡ In Design  ➡ Balsamiq ➡ Webflow In recent times, there's been a trend of including collaboration tools also such as - ➡ Zeplin ➡ Jira ➡ Notion ➡ Mura­l ➡ Miro ➡ Whimsical However, it becomes excessive when resumes also feature - ➡ Midjourney ➡ GenAI And.... let's keep 2 minutes silence for people who add "MS Office Suite" as well in their resume. Ask yourself few simple questions - ❓ Will you reject an opportunity just because the organisation uses MIRO for collaboration but you used only Notion before? ❓ Do you literally feel using Midjourney is a critical skill? May be having the knowledge of right prompts to get accurate results is a skill. But Midjourney? ❓ Are you seeking a position of typist that you include MS office as a tool ? You get the point? So, why clutter your resume with irrelevant information? Here are two criteria for including a tool in your resume - ✅ If a tool is specifically mentioned in the JD. ✅ The tool you are most comfortable with or expert in. Stick to these guidelines.
