🚨Swiggy IPO gets oversubscribed led by QIB bids Swiggy’s IPO was oversubscribed 1.07 times by the third day, driven largely by QIBs, who oversubscribed their portion 1.52 times. Retail investors subscribed to 97% of their portion, while Non-Institutional Investors (NIIs) made bids for 22% of their allocation. Swiggy's employee quota also saw strong demand, with a subscription rate of 1.38 times. Watching someone struggle with something you've built is both humbling and enlightening. When Prashant and I introduced the initial version of prd2proto.ai, we thought we were onto something. F&O trading is similar to tobacco products and all Trading platforms and algo trading firms are behaving like tobacco companies. 91% of people make losses, even amongst people who make profits - a great percentage is less than 10K, almost 50% transaction cost for profit making. Who are the winners here - Algorithms (yes algorithms make the most money), Trading platforms(it seems there are like a million trading platforms. PS: I have little to no knowledge about F&O or trading in general. Don't mean to offend anyone but only calling it out because I feel a poor country like ours cannot have such things. Some scary messages I have read or heard in recent times - An influencer suggesting - Everything is on the chart, you do not even need to know what company is or what does it do . A trading platform suggesting - We have tools which can increase the chance of you making profit(yes this is scary - can you guarantee the increase or call out in what cases it works and when it doesn't). I got worried recently when I heard a conversation of college kids at a cafe - they were boasting about F&O trading. About how this is the path to success. I noticed they convinced two others in the group to get an account and start trading (mind you not investing but trading). The only good message in their conversation was - life is all about taking risks, worst case we will learn something out of it. I hope government and regulators take some steps to either stop it or at least put some limits and checks. At least work towards stopping passive effects like regulate influencers , fact check things, raise more awareness. I seriously do not know what is the way ahead but definitely something which is showing worrisome signs for a poor country like ours. My analysis on why it is similar to tobacco products:

It's about the recent product launches from #Zomato Back in 2021, I was not confident to subscribe #Zomato's IPO because they were not profitable nor innovative and didn't offer any uniqueness compared to other famous food delivery app who is based out of Bangalore. But in the last 3 months, I noticed too many new product/feature launches which are all not small in size. All are major launches. Some of them are: # Group Ordering # Restaurant loyalty program # Zomato money for a balance cash. # District app (dine out) # Buy Now, Sell Anytime(legalising the ticket reselling) # ZTE(employee can reimburse the food bill directly to the employer) # ITR filing for partners AND # Acquisitions of Movie ticketing platform from paytm. Zomato seems to be in 'fire mode' to bring innovation and create a tightly coupled ecosystem for the food delivery business to beat the competition in the long run. What surprised me is, how a $25B public listed company could move fast with this enormous speed and velocity, and how their product/technology team coped with the speed and timing of the delivery seamlessly which is very very unusual in other companies. Kudos to the #product and #engineering team @ Zomato

I thought to share here 👇 Social networking tools targeting a particular social segment might not work out in the future. For instance, a student having Facebook during graduation, LinkedIn for building business contacts, and Bebo for something else…will this be feasible in the long run? I have one Hi5 account, created a Bebo when a friend requested it, left Orkut and continued using LinkedIn. For GenZs, Hi5, Orkit, Bebo were social network of the past decades! :) I was one of Spoke's key designers and developers for Spoke (it is dead as of 2024), the first of the few social networking-based tools (though Spoke targets enterprise networking and solutions like SalesForce and others). Friendster couldn’t sustain its success after Myspace arrived; however, Myspace had a good strategy of allowing various communities to coexist in the same social space. In a single Myspace, a convergence of various social groups happened. Taking this argument further, many social networking tools are definite bubble-burst types. The total number of NRIs and PIOs stands at about ~3.3 crores, possibly the best Indians to sell any homogenous Indian product. Just the top 6 countries account for ~1.9 Crores. Razorpay What kind of Unicorn are you? On July 6th, I initiated a transaction of Rs 10.15 Lakhs to my Virtual A/c on Razorpay. Immediately, I received an email from Razorpay stating that the source account is not whitelisted with them, and they have rejected the transaction. It also mentioned that the amount would be credited back to the source account within 24 hours. Now, even after 7 days, the amount has not been received. We have been sending emails to their ID ([email protected]) since July 6th and have sent several reminders, but they have failed to respond. On July 10th, after failing to receive any response, we warned them that we would escalate the matter to the RBI Forum. Immediately, we received a call from their team member assuring us that the amount would be credited back by the end of the day. It's been 48 hours now, and we still haven't received the amount. Today, they wrote that they have refunded the amount but failed to share the UTR and transaction details. They are just playing around with us. When my team member tried calling the same person who assured the refund several times around 4 PM, her calls were not answered. At 6:05 PM, he messaged her saying their working hours are 9 to 6, Monday to Friday. So does this mean we will not receive a response about our substantial amount until Monday? How much time should a failed transaction take for a refund? Reserve Bank of India (RBI) is there any law for this? Can a company keep someone's money for so long like this? We request you to kindly take serious steps for this. We have already raised a complaint for this to your CRPC forum and the complaint no. is RBI/CMS/N202425005002501/2024-25.

Zepto entering BNPL. I generally hate how startups see lending as a go-to strategy for growth - whether it is B2B marketplaces / manufacturing aggregators to Quick commerce (especially given the organic growth happening). I often wonder if it really enables true demand or ends up unduly inflating it only to bring it all down during downturns. But, in this case, I slightly differ. Consumers have historically enjoyed extended monthly settlements from their local grocers - remember, hisaab me likh lena! BNPL for Zepto eliminates another friction for customers in buying grocery online.
