𝗪𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗦𝗘𝗕𝗜 𝗮𝘀𝘀𝘂𝗺𝗲 𝗮 𝗖𝗿𝘆𝗽𝘁𝗼 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗥𝗲𝗴𝘂𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆 𝗥𝗼𝗹𝗲? The Securities and Exchange Board of India (#SEBI) has recently proposed a multi-regulator approach to monitor crypto commerce countrywide, which is a significant move within India's crypto ecosystem. This action has generated a great deal of curiosity in the Indian crypto community, especially considering the RBI's previous stringent regulation of digital assets. It's crucial to emphasize that the #RBI has been strictly regulating cryptocurrencies since 2018, prohibiting banks and other regulated businesses from helping with cryptocurrency transactions. But the market is even more excited because to SEBI's latest proposal for a multi-regulator framework to control cryptocurrency trading. SEBI's proposal for multiple regulators to oversee the Virtual Digital Assets (#VDAs) sector is seen as a balanced and practical approach. This approach ensures thorough monitoring, improves regulatory clarity, and acknowledges the complexity of VDAs. A well-regulated environment reduces market abuses and enhances ecosystem integrity, fostering investor trust and reducing the risk of market abuses. Industry experts are predicting that the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) will contribute to creating a favorable regulatory climate for cryptocurrencies. This move aligns with previous supportive regulatory frameworks in other industries like telecom, IT, and e-commerce. While there are still many details to be covered, this is positive news for India's cryptocurrency market, as it has seen increased consumer adoption in these sectors. SEBI's strategy is similar to that of regulatory bodies in the US and other nations, where it covers crypto assets that are classified as securities and new products like initial coin offerings (#ICOs). Concerns raised by RBI are that there is a danger to fiscal stability associated with cryptocurrencies as they may be used for tax evasion and because decentralized peer-to-peer (P2P) activity in cryptocurrency relies on voluntary compliance. Additionally, it stated that the loss of "seigniorage" income—that is, the profit a central bank makes from creating money—may result from the use of #cryptocurrencies . The RBI required financial institutions to closely abide by severe money laundering and foreign exchange regulations after the sector contested its 2018 instructions, which were ultimately overturned by the Supreme Court. This essentially kept cryptocurrencies out of India's official financial system. Despite this, trade increased, and the Indian government decided to discourage such trading in 2022 by imposing a tax on cryptocurrency transactions. It then demanded that all exchanges register locally before allowing cryptocurrency transactions from inside the nation. A #PwC report from December 2023 states that 31 nations have laws in place allowing for the trading of #cryptocurrency. Now, is it time for #India?

The eCash 2.0 model has two tiers when it comes to issuing central bank digital money: a central bank does it via commercial banks, which onboard users.
