Priced at ₹2.39 lakh, this sleek, futuristic machine is set to hit the roads by January 2025. As Raptee.HV charts an ambitious course, it seeks to raise $20 million to expand its horizons and scale up operations, all while the T30 promises an IDC-estimated range of 200 km and a real-world range of over 150 km on a single charge. With the power to accelerate from 0 to 60 kmph in under 3.5 seconds, the T30 promises a thrilling union of performance and cutting-edge technology. Srinagar’s e-bus service, launched as part of the Smart City initiative, has quickly become an essential mode of transport for many residents. However, despite its progressive launch, the current fleet of 100 electric buses is struggling to meet the growing demand. This shortage has led to overcrowding and longer waiting times, especially during peak hours. Although the surface transport ministry plans to add another 100 buses by early next year, the total fleet will still fall short. To fully meet the city’s needs, around 600 e-buses are required, according to SSCL officials. Zypp Electric has raised around $80 million to date and is supported by prominent investors such as Indian Angel Network, 9 Unicorns (now 100Unicorns), Anthill Ventures, Eiman Abdullah Mahfood Al Qatar, and others. 💰 Funding Details: In a significant boost to its growth trajectory, Zypp Electric has secured Rs 116 crore ($14 million) in its Series C funding round led by Japan-based petroleum firm ENEOS Oil & Energy Asia. This marks the first investment round for Zypp Electric in 2024. The board of Zypp Electric has approved a special resolution to allot 1,372 Series C CCPS at an issue price of Rs 8,43,750 each, as per the regulatory filing accessed from the Registrar of Companies. This investment values the company at approximately Rs 2,253 crore ($271 million) post-money. Zypp Electric is also in discussions to raise an additional $40 million in a new round led by Tribe Capital, which is expected to value the company at $350 million. This indicates that more exciting funding news could be on the horizon for Zypp Electric. Our Dhoni ad taught us that VIRALITY IS NOT A FLUKE! It’s a bit of art, and a bit of science. Let me share a few insights. .. The “Bole Jo Koyal” campaign song which Thala sang for us, was played in the biggest of Indian cricket stadiums. People made reels about it. DJs created remixes out of it. And everyone was talking of it. But, nobody knows how much went into making that viral campaign! .. Of course, Thala being featured was itself a big factor. But, being all humble, every ad Thala has been a part of has not really gone viral. And this is where our brilliant team comes in. .. And they also ideated on multiple concepts. The team curated 15-20 different script ideas. Once that was sorted, song selection followed. And that was in itself a major exercise. And every stage was perfected to crack virality. Every possible variable was considered when choosing everything you saw in the ad. .. And that’s how the viral ad happened! .. This experience taught us at EMotorad, that virality isn’t a fluke. The Rising E-Rickshaw Challenge in Lucknow: Blessing or Burden? As the streets of Lucknow continue to fill with the quiet hum of e-rickshaws, their impact on daily life is becoming more visible than ever. These small, affordable vehicles have become a favorite mode of transport for many in the city. Whether it’s a quick ride through Aminabad’s bustling markets or a commute across Hazratganj, e-rickshaws are everywhere. But this growing presence has its downsides. The sheer number of e-rickshaws has begun to overwhelm Lucknow’s already congested roads. During peak hours, major streets like Charbagh and Alambagh are often slowed to a crawl, with rows of e-rickshaws moving at a leisurely pace. Their tendency to weave in and out of lanes unpredictably adds to the traffic woes, frustrating drivers of faster vehicles forced to navigate around them. One of the biggest complaints is their parking habits. Without proper regulation, e-rickshaws park wherever they find space—often in the middle of busy roads or near intersections. This not only disrupts traffic flow but also blocks pathways for pedestrians. In areas like Chowk, it’s common to see these vehicles parked haphazardly, creating bottlenecks that further add to the city’s traffic woes. Moreover, while e-rickshaws are eco-friendly, the lack of a formalized system to manage them has turned them into a source of disorganization on the roads. Their advantages in providing cheap, accessible transport are being overshadowed by their role in increasing traffic jams, especially in already crowded areas like Gomti Nagar. As Lucknow continues to grow, the need for clear regulations and proper parking zones for e-rickshaws becomes more pressing. Without this, what was once seen as a solution to urban mobility could become a major contributor to the city's traffic problems.

We often get asked, why is it taking so long for Sooorya EV to be launched in the market? Sooorya EV was incorporated in 2017, and at that time I frankly did not expect it to take so long. I was aware that the traditional automobile product development cycle time was around 5 to 7 years, but was optimistic that we could deliver earlier. We initially started looking at the ‘Robo-Taxi’ segment, and that made me move to Singapore which had a test bed facility for ‘autonomous vehicles’ and many autonomous tech companies were based here. But after a year or two, I realised that it will take a couple of decades before Robo-Taxis become ubiquitous. We then started focusing on the driver driven, last-mile mobility segment and found a huge opportunity for affordable electric fleet vehicles. To speed up the development process, we started by exploring the usage of an existing chassis. However, we realised that using a chassis built for ICE (Internal Combustion Engine) was not efficient. We then looked at modifying an electric vehicle built in China, but realised that it entailed a lot of modifications, and not worth the effort. We also explored using third-party ‘Skateboard’ platform to build our EV, but that was too expensive for emerging markets. We then decided to build our own ‘born-electric’ & ‘purpose-built’ electric taxi for the fleet segment, especially for emerging markets. Over the next few years, we researched extensively the needs of the market, and I personally traveled to 5 continents, focusing on market opportunites and potential competition / partners. We set high standards for Sooorya EV, and wanted it to be the benchmark for electric fleet vehicles in developing countries. We explored all new technologies including ‘metal-air batteries’, ‘hybrid supercapacitor batteries’, ‘rotary engine as a range-extender’ ‘fully swappable batteries’ etc., in order to solve the charging downtime issue for fleet operators. Finally, we arrived at our unique vehicle architecture of ‘Fixed + Swappable Batteries’ + ‘Solar Roof & Regen Braking Power’, which reduces the charging downtime to just a few minutes. We also have a unique modular design (designed in Italy), so that it can be easily assembled in ‘Micro-Factories’. We decided that we will source modular components from suppliers, and not get into manufacturing directly. So, we become more of an integrator rather than manufacturer. This means that we had to wait for the EV supplier ecosystem to develop in India, rather than try to speed up our launch by manufacturing ourselves. We also wanted to have the right PMF (Product Market Fit), pricing plays an important role for the fleet segment, which is focused on TCO & ROI. Fortunately, battery prices have reduced considerably since we first started and the EV supplier ecosystem has matured, including for swappable batteries. We have everything in place to launch in 12 to 18 month’s, but the question we now get is how? Read this article…

We are all witnessing the explosive growth phase of the Electric Vehicles (#EVs) industry in #India. Interestingly, the two-wheeler segment experienced faster adoption as compared to the four-wheeler segment, primarily due to factors like accessibility, affordability, and provision of swappable batteries. That is not to say that the four-wheeler segment is not experiencing demand, but the growth has been slow and gradual. This is mainly due to infrastructure challenges and high costs.
