From '400 paar to Coalition Sarkar' needs on ground a few #process #corrections, in my opinion. This transition in the composition of the probable Union Government needs a decisive correction of #attitude of the #spokespeople of #BJP and the #proright #influencers appearing on the media. They have to tone down their earlier #rhetoric and body language. They also have to learn to make space , and accept the spokespeople of the coalition partners, such as, #TDP and #JD(U), to make comments and announcements on policy matters. I understand, it is a bit early, because since 2014 they were not trained and prepared for such a situation. However , this is not a probable Union Government with one party majority any more. The political reality has changed. #Communications and #media #interaction like the #policy #formation have to be more consultative.

𝐃𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐡 𝐨𝐟 𝐚 𝐉𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐧𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐬𝐦 𝐒𝐜𝐡𝐨𝐨𝐥: 𝐑𝐞𝐝𝐢𝐬𝐜𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐞 '𝐖𝐡𝐲' Shutting down a school is always painful and saddening for the community it serves. The recent announcement from the Indian Institute of Journalism & New Media (IIJNM Bangalore) to close its doors reminds us of the challenges facing journalism education today. Over the past two decades, I have worked with many IIJNM alumni, including Shadma Shaikh, Monica Jha, Ramarko Sengupta, Sobia Khan Khan. This news hits close to home. This closure raises critical questions: Is the current state of journalism responsible for the shutdown of a journalism school, or does the schooling for journalism itself need to be reimagined? I believe it's imperative to go back to the "why" of journalism. Blaming the environment, technological disruptions or a lack of interest from potential students only scratches the surface. The deeper issue lies in the evolving landscape of education itself. Traditional multi-year courses are rapidly becoming outdated in our fast-paced, modular world. Engineering colleges are facing similar fates, and the trend is undeniable. We are likely to see more institution closures, not just in journalism but also in other fields like engineering. Having recently completed an executive program with CUNY, I was struck by how little emphasis is placed on the "why" of journalism. This foundational question is crucial. Journalism schools, media organizations, and startups will come and go, but the essence of journalism—its core purpose—will endure. We must reflect on and reaffirm why we pursue journalism as we navigate these changes. It's about telling stories that matter, holding power to account, and serving the public good. These principles should guide the evolution of journalism education and practice. Let's use this moment to mourn the loss of an institution and critically assess and adapt to the changing landscape of education and journalism. I do hope there's more discourse around this topic, and people from the IIJNM come forward to share more. It will only help build resilience in the community. Finally, I am a diehard student and believer in the value of journalism, even if it serves just one as its audience.
