The Coal Ministry has sought proposals from public and private sector players for Coal Gasification projects under the INR 8,500 cr. viability gap funding scheme which had been approved by the Union Cabinet in Jan this year. China has very successfully monetized its indigenous coal resources to meet its Energy, Chemical, and Petrochemical demands. 90% of China’s Ammonia and 70% of Methanol are through Coal Gasification. While there are several Gasification Technology challenges for India primarily due to the higher ash content in indigenous coal, the support being received from the GoI is very encouraging.
