The 2024 Lok Sabha election results look a confused satte of mind in people and struggling with social media hype vs ground realities and is a significant shift in India's political landscape. As per trends at 10 am, the Congress party looking to gain substantially, securing 90 plus seats, while the BJP faced a humiliating decline, hovering around 250 seats. The Samajwadi Party made impressive inroads with 30 plus seats in high profile UP State with 80 seats and hyped Ram Mandir inauguration campaign run by ruling party using state resources. High-profile trailing, like Smriti Irani's in Amethi, is big setback to ruling party. Market reacted more negatively than yesterday hyped exit polls, and may have trapped retailer's investor. The results diverged from exit polls, showing biased and faulty predictions and eroded credibility for pity gains. This election underscores a divided electorate torn between calls for change and polarization strategies. The outcomes show how easy it is to manipulate by running organized and high intensity polarized campaign than ethical conduct.

I was reading about the Capability Approach propounded by Amartya Sen. The little that I understood makes so much sense about the what and the why of success that we keep working towards .... I have tried to capture it for you which is as follows.... The essence of Sen's Capability Approach lies in recognising the profound truth that life is not merely about material wealth, but about the freedom to live the life we value. It urges us to move beyond conventional metrics such as income and wealth, and instead, look at the opportunities people truly have, the freedoms they enjoy, and their ability to pursue what they have reason to value. Sen teaches us to consider the richness of human life — the joy of learning, the freedom of thought, and the fulfilment of our potential. In a world obsessed with productivity and success, we often forget the fundamental human right to flourish, to realise our own unique path in life. Much like living in the present moment, Sen’s approach requires us to see the inherent dignity of each individual, not through what they possess, but through what they can achieve, based on their unique circumstances and aspirations. This vision encourages us to recognise the importance of education, health, and personal freedom, understanding that they are the true measures of progress. In the same way Swami Nikhalananda’s teachings remind us to honour the present, Sen asks us to honour the potential of each human being in the now, empowering them to live with purpose and possibility, crafting their own future from a place of authentic freedom and capability.

The recent commentary from CEOs of major companies such as Asian Paints, Hindustan Unilever (HUL), and Maruti Suzuki highlights a critical issue in India's economic growth: a disconnect between GDP growth and consumer income. The leaders of these companies have pointed out that while GDP is rising, largely driven by government borrowing and spending, consumer purchasing power appears to be weakening. This is reflected in stagnating or declining demand, particularly in lower-income and rural segments, which affects sectors like FMCG, automobiles, and paints. From a broader fiscal perspective, government data for 2024-25 indicates that 27% of total government revenue is sourced from borrowings, while gross market borrowing is projected at ₹14.01 lakh crore. Meanwhile, capital expenditure remains unchanged at ₹11.1 lakh crore, while fiscal deficit stands at 4.9% of GDP, with a target to reduce it below 4.5% by 2025-26. Tax revenue shows moderate growth, but it is not sufficient to counterbalance the sluggish consumer demand, which is partly due to limited income growth​ Despite steady GDP growth driven by government expenditure, the lack of meaningful income growth among the general population is leading to reduced per capita consumption. This structural imbalance suggests that economic growth is not translating effectively into widespread prosperity, thereby reflecting challenges in achieving inclusive growth​. Project Experience - Making of Song Video Harnessing Military Precision, Management Acumen, Over the years, my professional journey has been a blend of structured military discipline, advanced management education, and creative endeavors. Transitioning from leading operations in the military to managing complex, multi-stakeholder projects in the creative field has been both challenging and rewarding. In the past two years, under the banner of Purple Music India, we have successfully produced six video songs in collaboration with different music labels. Each project tested my abilities, pushing me to apply the lessons learned during my military service, my MBA from IIFT New Delhi, and my Management Development Program (MDP) in General Business Management. However, what truly stood out in these projects was the stark contrast in expectations and realities on the ground. Despite my efforts to implement best practices for project management and timely delivery, I often faced roadblocks due to the lack of awareness and commitment from supporting entities. This write-up reflects on my experiences and the challenges I encountered while striving to align theory with practice. Blending Military Precision with Business Acumen Having spent 35 years in active military service, I am no stranger to managing diverse teams, handling large-scale operations,& achieving results under challenging circumstances. To transition these skills into the civilian and entrepreneurial world, I pursued an MBA at IIFT, New Delhi, which deepened my understanding of business management. The subsequent MDP provided additional insights into project management, finance, and leadership in dynamic environments. Real-World Challenges: Bridging Knowledge and Practice When working on the six video song projects, I was eager to apply the principles and strategies I had studied. I treated each project as a comprehensive exercise in project management, with clear timelines, budgets, and deliverables. However, the ground reality presented a completely different set of challenges. 1. Lack of Awareness and Alignment Among Supporting Entities: While their expertise in their respective fields was unquestionable, they often did not prioritize timely deliveries or cost management. 2. Unwanted Delays and Limited Ownership: 3. Balancing Structure with Creative Flexibility: The creative industry thrives on spontaneity & flexibility, which often clashes with structured project management. Conclusion This journey has reinforced my belief that the lessons we learn in one field can be applied effectively in others, provided we adapt them to the context. By combining the discipline of the military, the analytical rigor of management education, and the creativity of the arts, I have been able to navigate challenges and achieve meaningful results. From Gen PK Mullick in a message to me below. Abhijit Iyer Mitra of IPCS has written a letter to RM with a copy to PM and CAG, which was shared on social media. Some of his remarks about the Armed Forces were downright derogatory. Some of them are: Average Indian public seems to understand more about cybersecurity than armed forces. Our cybersecurity is a sad pathetic joke. Military either have no clue about cybersecurity, or they have decided in their infinite wisdom that cybersecurity is an optional extra. Given that significant amount of tax payer money has been spent on clearly wasted cybersecurity equipment and training, a CAG audit might be merited. I thought that the MoD, CDS, and concerned Services like IAF or the IN would issue strong rebuttals. For some strange reason, that did not come. I am an old man. But tiger abhi bhi zinda hain. Blood boil hota hain if a gentleman like Abhijit Iyer Mitra writes such offensive language against the services. Kya karen. Namak khaya. I wrote a small article. Vikram Ambalal Sarabhai: A Visionary Who Shaped India's Future. Vikram Sarabhai was born on August 12, 1919, in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, to Ambalal Sarabhai and Saraladevi Sarabhai. Sarabhai's early education took place in Ahmedabad, and he later attended St. John's College, Cambridge, where he earned his Ph.D. in 1947. Sarabhai's Ph.D. research was focused on "Cosmic Rays" under the supervision of renowned physicist C.V. Raman. His thesis explored the properties of cosmic rays and their interactions with matter. Sarabhai's interest in science was sparked by his family's industrial background and his own curiosity about the natural world. During his time at Cambridge, he was exposed to the latest developments in physics and cosmology, which further fueled his passion for science. In 1947, Sarabhai returned to India and established the Physical Research Laboratory (PRL) in Ahmedabad. PRL was set up to conduct research in cosmic rays, high-energy physics, and other areas of physics. Sarabhai's vision for PRL was to create a world-class research institution that could attract top talent from around the world. In the 1950s and 1960s, Sarabhai became increasingly interested in space research and its potential applications for India. He played a key role in establishing the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) in 1969 and became its first chairman. Under Sarabhai's leadership, ISRO launched India's first satellite, Aryabhata, in 1975. This achievement marked a major milestone in India's space program and demonstrated the country's capabilities in space research and technology. Sarabhai's institution-building efforts didn't stop at PRL and ISRO. He played a key role in establishing several other institutions, including the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Ahmedabad and the Electronics Corporation of India Limited (ECIL). ECIL was established in 1967 to design, develop, and manufacture electronic systems and equipment for various applications, including nuclear power plants. Sarabhai's vision for ECIL was to create a self-reliant Indian electronics industry that could cater to the country's growing needs in the fields of defense, space, and nuclear energy. He also contributed to the development of the Kalpakkam nuclear reactor, which was established in 1983. Tragically, Sarabhai's life was cut short when he passed away on December 30, 1971, in Kovalam, Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, while attending the International Symposium on Space Research. He was just 52 years old. His untimely death was a shock to the scientific community and the nation. Sarabhai received numerous awards and honors for his contributions to science.Some notable awards include: - Padma Bhushan (1966) - Padma Vibhushan (posthumous, 1972) His legacy continues to inspire new generations of scientists, engineers, and leaders. Which is the best syllabus to study? State vs CBSE vs ISCE Many parents feel CBSE is best to study. Some feel ICSE is better. Many feel State board is easy. How does these boards impact the life of a child? In the ranking system at 90s, academics and entrance test were considered to arrive at the ranks. Is that method is the best one? If the system of exams like NEET. JEE MAIN, CLAT, etc without considering the academic scores are better, then why should public exams be conducted? It can be conducted for Pass or fail exam without scores. Some schools work on coaching for clearing these exams and claim success with few students. we do not know the whereabouts of majority of other students studied in these schools. Are we misguiding our children in these names like boards, coaching or syllabus which develop extreme pressure on these children to perform and have their wild imaginations and expectations on the courses at top colleges? Do we require a reservation system to tackle these issues, by which children can enjoy their studies rather than developing pressures?

In today's CII Southern Region's AERO DEF Tech Summit 2024 in Bengaluru, I had the opportunity to meet Major General C S Mann, VSM, Additional Director General of the Army Design Bureau (ADB), Indian Army. It was an insightful interaction discussing advancements in defense technology and innovation. ✅ During his session, Major General Mann discussed pathfinding based on the release of the Compendium of Problem Definitions (CPDS) 2023 by Honorable RM Shri Rajnath Singh on 15th February 2023. He elaborated on various stages of pathfinding: wanting to do something but not knowing what to do, having an idea or concept, possessing technology, and having a product. ✅ Major General Mann also presented a Tech Perspective Capability Roadmap on AERO Defense Technology, outlining the strategic directions and future requirements. Heartening to see our top military leadership talk of costs. After Ukraine/Gaza it's clear that exorbitant super defence technology and massive weapon systems can be innovatively thwarted by cheap, adaptable commercial technologies which are advancing much faster than defence tech. Spending lacs of crores in fighting futuristic space wars at the opportunity cost of uplifting our 400 million poor (can we remind ourselves enough that India has the largest population of poor in the world and is the poorest in per capita income in the G20) would be simply disloyal to the people of India. Optimising for adequate human security at least cost to the People should be our mantra.

Fear and consequences The ancient vedic way of understanding, appreciating and combating the same ! In Vedic philosophy, fear is considered a fundamental human emotion that arises from ignorance or misperception of reality. Here's a deeper dive into the Vedic perspective on fear and how to combat it: *Vedic Meaning of Fear* In Sanskrit, fear is known as "Bhaya" (भय) or "Trasa" (त्रस). The Vedic texts describe fear as a state of mind that arises from: 1. *Avidya* (अविद्या): Ignorance or misperception of reality. 2. *Asmita* (अस्मिता): Ego or identification with the limited self. 3. *Raga* (राग) and *Dvesha* (द्वेष): Attachment and aversion, which create a sense of separation and lead to fear. How to Combat Fear: According to Vedic philosophy, fear can be overcome by: 1. Self-Inquiry :(आत्म-विचार): Investigating the true nature of the self and reality to dispel ignorance. 2. There is always a right man for the right job, with this as benchmark people should understand especially startups that it is valuable to build the right team else there is no point crying over lost time. Defence Ecosystem needs to have the best manpower possible that can only happen when there is academia and industry collaboration, not as mere internship or job offers but facilitating the need of skilled manpower in various sectors. . . And as far as defence is concerned it will be better off that don't jump the wagon and do the same stuff that everybody is repeating, instead try and understand and facilitate in building the future warriors. The slowdown in India's GDP growth to 6.7% in the April-June 2024 quarter, the lowest in 15 months, has been attributed primarily to reduced government spending. This reduction in spending is linked to the enforcement of the model code of conduct during the Lok Sabha elections, which constrained both central and state government expenditures. key sectors continued to grow at rates exceeding 7%, however, the agriculture sector where more than 75% people are employed, underperformed, with growth slowing to just 2%, exacerbating the overall GDP slowdown. RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das optimism is good, but the scenario raises concerns about the sustainability of economic growth, especially given the high level of public expenditure on subsidies and welfare schemes, which might be straining the government's fiscal capacity. This slowdown highlights the need for more transparent and accurate fiscal data, which is critical for maintaining the credibility of institutions like the RBI. Slowdown is currently attributed to temporary factors like election-related spending cuts, the underlying fiscal health and the reliance on welfare expenditures may pose challenges to achieving sustained economic growth.
