This was the question that drove our Innovation and Design Thinking project team- Ajay Sriram, Anand M, Bhumika Choudhary, Lakshmanan R, Omkar Kamath, and myself. Guided by the invaluable support of Gladys S Ma'am, our project not only addressed a critical societal issue but also earned the 1st rank in our Innovation and Design Thinking class at IIM Kozhikode. Our solution? "Pandora," a digital platform designed to be a one-stop resource for all things related to sex education. We didn't just jump to solutions; we started by understanding the problem deeply. We explored societal taboos, researched educational gaps, and identified the challenges that teachers and parents face when discussing these topics. 𝑾𝒆 𝒆𝒏𝒈𝒂𝒈𝒆𝒅 𝒊𝒏 𝒂 𝒕𝒉𝒐𝒓𝒐𝒖𝒈𝒉 𝒅𝒆𝒔𝒊𝒈𝒏 𝒕𝒉𝒊𝒏𝒌𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒑𝒓𝒐𝒄𝒆𝒔𝒔, 𝒘𝒉𝒊𝒄𝒉 𝒊𝒏𝒄𝒍𝒖𝒅𝒆𝒅: ✓ 𝐃𝐞𝐟𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐛𝐥𝐞𝐦: We identified the lack of formal sex education in many regions and the discomfort surrounding these conversations as the core issues. ✓ 𝐈𝐝𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧: Our team brainstormed numerous ideas, from interactive modules and mobile apps to community networks that foster open discussions between parents, teachers, and students. ✓ 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐭𝐨𝐭𝐲𝐩𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐓𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠: We brought our ideas to life by creating a structure for a website that could house these resources in a user-friendly and accessible manner. When I worked in the sponsorships team for my college fest Ka-Ching X EJCon in my 2nd year of college at SVKM's Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies (NMIMS), we used to approach several companies. I remember, that most of them wanted a stall space so that, they could get people to try their products. This was mostly true for consumables. This got me thinking just the other day about how avenues like college fests, exhibitions, and social gatherings offer a great platform for new products to get people to know them. Now, while they too could have created an artificial demand, that can only take a company so far. Brand awareness and consumer insights are crucial when launching something new. This is where The Coca-Cola Company nailed it. Picture this: a 23,000-pound, 26-by-36 foot billboard with 4,500 feet of straws spelling out "Taste It." And yes, you could actually taste the Coke Zero right there. Talk about bringing your ads to life! But Coke didn't stop at giant drinking straws. They teamed up with Shazam to create a virtual tasting experience. Imagine whipping out your phone at a concert or the NCAA finals and getting a QR code for a free Coke Zero. Genius, right? So why all this fuss over Coke Zero? Well, it was 2014-15, and the sugar-is-evil movement was gaining momentum. Coke needed a way to keep health-conscious consumers in the fold. Enter Coke Zero - all the taste, none of the guilt. The free sample strategy? Pure psychology. By removing the financial barrier, Coke made it easy for people to try (and hopefully love) their new product. It's like dating - the first one's free, but they're hoping for a long-term commitment. Coca-Cola didn't just think outside the box; they built a whole new box and filled it with fizzy, sugar-free goodness. A class project, a train ride, and a big idea: How Zomato's newest feature came to life! A seemingly simple idea from a marketing assignment has unexpectedly transformed into a groundbreaking reality within a year. In that assignment, my team and I chose Zomato as our focus. On the same day, I was traveling by train from Sullurpeta to Hyderabad and ordered food through a train app. Being a solo traveler, the cost was high, and though the portion was large, the quality was just average. This experience sparked an idea: Could Zomato deliver food on trains? I opened my laptop and began thinking from a business perspective: what does Zomato need? Restaurants, customers, and delivery partners. I decided to walk through the compartments of the train, observing the passengers, and it became clear that there are plenty of potential customers who would order food. Restaurants were also not a problem, as every town has at least one multi-cuisine option. Finally, I realized that trains stop for more than 5 minutes at district junctions. I saw this firsthand when the train halted at Nellore and noticed food being delivered locally. Everything seemed to fall into place. I mentioned the same in the project but differently. (Image is attached below). Cut to one year later, Zomato is now delivering food on trains! I want to thank my professors, Sathya Ram and Dr Sathya Saminadan R S, for assigning us this task, my incredible team (PRATAP WAGH and others) for their efforts, and IRCTC for their support in bringing this idea to life.
